Great Show

Saw Jim along with Kathleen Edwards, John Mann, Tom Cochrane, Steven Page at the most fabulous show last night. What a fantastic venue, mixed with the best of the best. So casual, personal and super amazing. I will be dreaming of this one for a looong time. Thanks Jim for another great show.

Hometown Comfort

It was so nice to see the band after so many years. The closeness of the crowd to the stage made for a hometown comfort feel to the show. Jim seemed to be enjoying the show...it was wonderful to hear his voice again and all the tunes I fell in love with. Come back next year!!!!!

The BLG Awards

Just wanted to say how great Jim Cuddy and violinist (Anne Linday?) were at the BLG Awards on Monday night. Brought tears to my eyes! The chemistry between the two muscians was amazing. The BLG Awards recognizes Canada's best University athletes, and it was so appropriate to have Jim Cuddy (one of Canada's best musicians) as part of the event. Many of these athletes, including my daughter Lindsay, could have gone to any American school in the United States on full scholarship, yet all of these taleneted athletes chose to stay in Canada (like Jim Cuddy) to persue excellence in their respective sport. These athletes (like Jim Cuddy) are true Canadian Ambassadors.

What A Treat

What a treat to see The Jim Cuddy Band in performance once again. They did their usual marvelous job of playing an exceptionally ambitious show. There was no opening band; the JCB performed a set both before and after an intermission. All band members were in top form and Anne Lindsay expanded her normal duties to include singing back-up on many songs - plus she did a terrific job singing the female part on Married Again. The venue was brand new and state-of-the-art. The sound was excellent - the definition of all musical instruments was amazing as was the clarity and beauty of Jim's voice. My only criticism was of the lighting. The stage was very lowly lit most of the time making it hard to distinguish features and a harsh bright white light shone from the ceiling which created shadows on the performers. Jim added Try as the last encore song and it sounded amazing, high notes and all. Thanks to Jim and the band for yet another wonderful show.

Fantastic

The show last night was excellent! Jim's voice easily makes it worth the $52 per ticket price! I was in a group for 17 years and it amazes me how he hits all the hard notes and seemingly with ease and can replicate the exact sound of the record!!!! PHENOMENAL!!!! The show was sold out and extremely loud clapping after each tune especially his encore of "Try" My favorite was TRY and BAD TIMING....incredible job he did of both....which is rare that I like the live version as much or more then the record!!!!! This guy is one of the best songwriters in the country and...up there with Burton Cummings for best voice in the country I would say...MAN CAN JIM SING!!!!!! thanks Jim for a super show!!! the sound was excellent...your vocal rang through that house with crystal clear clarity! Fantastic!

First Class

Wonderful gig at the new Arts Centre. Jimmy's vocals were right on and the mix was excellent. The band was very tight and Jim gave them the chance to show their stuff. Highly recomend the venue and the artist, first class, keep up the great work Jimmy!

Fabulous

It was a fabulous show from start to finish, we even had a pole in our way, but it couldn't detract from the show. The Skydiggers are a fun band and have a great sound, they work hard at thier music while still having fun. Jim as always was fantastic, he looked great, healthy and happy and sounded awesome. My husband really enjoyed the variety of musicians on stage, the sound was awesome. From Basil to Ann they all sounded great and looked as though they were having a good time. (we did miss Greg though)... Hoping to see Jim, Greg and the gang again soon...

Great Valentines Day Show

Great Valentines Day show at Massey Hall. My wife and I really enjoyed the show. We liked the energy and especially liked 5 Days in May with the amazing fiddle and guitar solos. As constructive criticism the amplification was sometimes too high - eg. in Pull Me Through where the volume may have hurt the sound quality. PS in case Jim didn't know, Gordon Lightfoot was in the first balcony. Based on his smiles I think he liked the country & bluegrass instrumental pieces the best.

Mind Numbing & Heartwarming Talent

Jim, your talent, energy, and addictive personality never cease to amaze me! You have a great band, and a voice that captures my soul. Although this was an outdoor event on a cold night, there wasn't a complaint from anyone in the crowd. The talent displayed on that stage was mind numbing and heartwarming. I particularly enjoyed the terrific instrument solos, and intimate background stories about the songs you sang. I have been, and will continue to be, a lifelong fan and I look forward to seeing it all again in the very near future...backstage passes someday!! Keep on writing and singing my favorite songs!

Worth Every Minute

God it was cold - but worth every minute of the frostbite!! So nice to see Jim in Ottawa again. He really put on an awesome show. Wasn't quite the same without Anne & Bob Packwood but wonderful anyway. Love the new song & hope there is more to come...... Thanks again for warming up a cold Friday nite!

Amazing Performance

An amazing performance last night at Showplace. The band seemed happy and relaxed. The audience ranged from small children to grandparents and all seemed equally enthusiastic (albeit some of the younger ones were napping). Anne Lindsay was amazing; Colin Cripps rocked; Basil was as stalwart and cool as ever; Joel Anderson seemed to be enjoying himself; and the keyboardist (whose name I missed) was apparently performing with the band live for the first time, though you'd never know it. Oh Susanna opened for the band and came back throughout the night to add her haunting voice. The playlist included a great mix of Jim's material along with some Blue Rodeo songs. He also played a beautiful new piece called (I think) "Last Angel in the Sky" The encore was Elvis Costello's Oliver's Army - though a catchy number, it was still a somewhat odd choice, given that the chorus indicates that they'd "rather be anywhere else but here tonight". I hope the band didn't feel that way. Clearly it wasn't the sentiment of the crowd - great show and we're looking forward to seeing them on Saturday at Massey Hall (maybe Charlie won't sleep through that one).

Really Glad to See the JCB

I was really glad to see the JCB again, especially in this intimate venue. The only problem with Showplace is that people don't get up and dance. (Except for me. Couldn't help it.) Great violin, great musicians, great harmonies with Oh Susanna. I could see Greg enjoying the show from the wings. Thanks again for regularly gracing Peterborough with your collective and solo tours!! Peterborough loves BR!!

Fantastic

On a brisk Wednesday night, things were hot at the Park Playhouse while The Jim Cuddy Band performed. It was a small intimate theatre and the mood was very relaxed. Jim did a wonderful job with his amazing and unmistakable vocals on a variety of songs from both of his solo albums as well as a few well-known Blue Rodeo titles. What a treat to see "Bulletproof" performed live. The band members Colin Cripps, Joel Anderson, Bazil Donovan and Anne Lindsay gave their usual fantastic performances. At one point, Colin created a show of his own so to speak, Bazil lost his place once (a rarity for sure) and so did Jim (yes, it's true). Joel and Anne had first-hand views of it all. Anne's "5 Days" solo was even better than we have come to expect and she's previously set the bar very high. All in all, to support the charity and enjoy the JCB as always was well worth the difficult drive home in the snow.

GREAT Show

My sister and I are huge Jim Cuddy/Blue Rodeo fans and have been waiting anxiously for Jim Cuddy to do another tour of his latest album "The Light that Guides You Home" and it was well worth the wait. The band put on a GREAT show. Jim is very charming and personable on stage. Unlike a Blue Rodeo show (which we have been to three last summer] Jim did alot of chatting with the audience, joking with the band, and talking about why he writes each song - very enjoyable. Even though there were a few mishaps during the show, Anne Lindsey almost dropping her mandolin, Colin falling - quite hard by the way, and Jim throwing in "Bulletproof" which apparently threw a few of the band members off - fun was had by all and everyone seemed to have a great time. We enjoyed the show emmensely and are looking forward to the Peterborough show Feb. 11 (already have our tickets, yeah!) Great showmanship done by all. Bravo!!!

Dear Jim: My girlfriend and I attended the "Blue Rodeo" concert down at the K-Rock Centre on Saturday, Oct. 25th. What a fabulous concert!! As always, you and and Greg Keelor were fantastic as well as the rest of the Blue Rodeo band. My favourite songs "TRY", "RAIN DOWN ON ME" AND "MONTREAL". Favourite CD - "Just Like A Vacation". We were so very disappointed that you performed for only 1.5 hours and I know the audience would have stayed on to hear more great songs. Maybe next time? We LOVE your music and look forward to your next concert in Kingston!!!

Canada's Best Kept Secret

Blue Rodeo was fantastic! Took my girlfriend for the first time, she was amazed. Jim Cuddy is Canada's best kept secret. My cousin in Michigan didn't know about Jim Cuddy Band or Blue Rodeo, too bad for her. I go to every concert in London and area and am now looking further away just to enjoy their amazing music. You guys sound great together and I really enjoy your fiddler in the Cuddy Band. What a nice compliment to this music. Every song is a memory of something in my life. Carry on and I hope to see you guys in Stratford in December if you are coming back???

Electricity

I was very impressed AGAIN with Jim Cuddy, I am from Toronto and have seen him with Blue Rodeo before at the Mixx 99.99 beach festival. I wish his show was longer and was hoping that him and Sheryl Crow would have come out for an 'encore' together, that would have made the magic happen. Five Days in May is consistently my favourite song as every time I see it live Jim brings his electricity to its peak and shoots it through every nerve of everyone in the vicinity. I was very very happy and hope to dream about this often

Sheer Magic

I was visiting Saskatoon on business and by luck was able to snap up a centre stage-row 6 ticket one hour before show time. Sheryl Crow's performance was great to be sure, but the sure honesty of your band's performance made a true fan out of me. I was impressed with your generosity as a performer, allowing Anne Lindsey and Colin Cripps to shine centre stage - did Anne ever do it well making that violin come to life during her solo, sheer magic! You are a class act Jim and stole the show for me that evening - Thanks.

Will Live in Our Memories...

My wife (who is a longtime, fervent Jim Cuddy fan) and I had the opportunity to see JCB in concert last night in Regina (along with Sheryl Crow). I have been a musician for 35 years, and have enjoyed some absolutely incredible moments in live music over the years: Bruce Springsteen doing "Badlands", Neil Young singing "Helpless" solo acoustic come to mind as some of the most powerful moments I have had the pleasure of experiencing. I have to say, however, that last night's violin solo in "Five Days in May" may have topped anything in the many hundreds of live performances I have been privileged to see over the last 4 decades. By the end of the solo my heart was racing, every hair on my body was standing on end, I was hyperventilating, and I was in tears. After the song ended, I looked at my wife; she had mascara running all over her face, and she told me she hadn't been able to breathe during the solo. Both of us were profoundly affected by an absolutely incredible display of musicianship which rose above mere technical prowess into a realm of emotional impact that was a real privilege to witness. The entire 45 minute show was terrific, but that brilliantly constructed and executed solo will live in our memories for a very, very long time. Thank you.

What a Fantastic Concert!

What a fantastic concert! Quiet, older crowd, not many fans were dancing, but we were mesmerized by the absolute talent and heart they put into their music. The fiddle player, Anne I think, was just amazing,(plus I loved her shirt), her energy was awesome to see, and the entire band was terrific. Thanks for the great evening, hope you come back soon.

New Appreciation

Up until tonight, I did not know who Jim Cuddy was. Someone told me he was associated with Blue Rodeo. I have heard of Blue Rodeo but have never really listened to their music. Well, was i surprised. I must say that Jim's music was quite enjoyable and i did not dislike any song he played. His performance along with his band, especially the fiddle player was fantastic. People will enjoy his music, I am quite sure of that..

My sister andbrother-in-law bought tickets forthem, another sister of mine and for me since I am totally a Blue Rodeo(Jim Cuddy) fan. The theatre was perfect size forthe concert and we really enjoyed it. Jim and the others were looking really relaxed and got along very well all through the concert which wenton for quite a while. Oneofmy sisters and I live in Edmonton so being able to attend this concert while visiting a family cottage was quite the thrill!

One Rockin' Show!

As we have come to expect from the Jim Cuddy Band, this was one fabulous show - it really rocked! Perhaps because the weather was so hot the band was really smokin'. Another fantastic show by Jim - was there every any doubt? Nice to hear some of his older material as well. The ever-so-talented regulars of Bazil Donovan, Bob Packwood and Anne Lindsay were all terrific. So too was Gavin Brown who filled in on drums. What can I say about Luke Doucet who filled in on guitar? He was amazing throughout but his solo on "5 Days" was unique and incredible - he's such an amazing artist. His wife Melissa McClelland joined in on vocals and she looked and sounded as gorgeous as always. Even the inimitable Colin Cripps made a special appearance which added immensely to the show. And thank you to Jim and those in the band who so graciously came out and chatted with us after the show. It's so good to see The Jim Cuddy Band in performance once again. Sheryl Crow fans, you're in for a real treat!

Wonderful Night of Your Music

What a performance! It was a very sedate, mostly older crowd – I have never been to a concert quite like this one before. Jim was amazing with his music and his little stories - he had us laughing, and at one point crying with his story about why and how he came to write "Pull Me Through". The show at River Run was fantastic! I saw Jim at the JLC in London (Blue Rodeo) fall of ‘06 & was very impressed. And you're talking to a guy who has seen The Police three times this year already. Another Awesome Concert

What an awesome Jim Cuddy Band Concert! Oh Susanna, was the opening act and her performance was totally awesome. Way to go Suzie! Then when Jim's band performed, it was totally unbelievable. His band consisted of Anne, a great Fiddle and Mandolin player that really put a lot of awesome rhythm and performance into the concert. You could hear Bob's awesome performance on Keyboard. Man, Jim has an awesome voice and sure gets his fans in the audience clapping, screaming and singing.

Bazil was so hot that evening, his Guitar Amp caught on fire & boy that was the fastest I've seen him move in a long time! We can't wait to see another one of your awesome concerts, Jim!

What a Lineup!

Such a great line up of talent on one stage!

Oh Susanna was spectacular, as usual, warming up the crowd with her powerful voice, (I guess it was too late at night for her young son to play guitar with Jim). Always making her violin sing with enthusiasm, Anne Lindsay was hot and strummed up a storm on the mandolin. Jim was very comfortable, both with hitting the notes perfectly and toying with a heckler; all in fun, of course. Basil stepped up again to the mic and did a remarkable job singing a song that I didn't recognize but would love to hear more of. Kathleen Edward's hubby Colin Cripps played as good as ever leading the way and I was quite impressed with Bob Packwood, who looked more comfortable than ever keyboards. Wow he's good. Definitely have to give credit to Joel Anderson on drums who magically glues all the instruments together. Excellent venue that feels like they're playing just for you. Hope to see them there again soon. The sound was certainly not Massey Hall, but right up there.

The After Show Artist Chat was warm and appreciated at a fine-dining restaurant by the name of Paradiso's. It offered a brief up-close question and answer period with Jim. Jim is definitely a very good speaker with a remarkable vocabulary. Listening to him speak shows the "True Talent" within his song-writing capabilities. It's always apleasure witnessing Canadian musicians on top of their game. Thank you again and again.

What A Show!

Wow. Just got back from seeing Jim and his band play for almost two hours and I am still wound up. A fantastic show, the energy level was good and the musicianship was wonderful. Even the substitute drummer who Jim kidded around with was great. All I can say is: If you get a chance to see Jim and his band play -- go. You won't be disappointed. What a show.

A Pleasant Surprise

My wife and I went to the concert in Newmarket, it was totally excellent. To tellthe truth, I was not expecting much, thinking that Jim couldn't be as good as he is with Blue Rodeo, whom we've also seen and loved. This concert was every bit as great! Lots of great music, including the violin! If you love the Rodeo, see this show too.

Moves My Soul

I went to the show in Newmarket by myself. I was feeling tired and had a headache but could not pass up the chance when Jim was just down the street. I hadn't heard any of his solo songs. I love Blue Rodeo but wasn't sure if I should go and see him on his own. Well, at around 6:00 p.m. on Saturday night I decided to go. It was so great, I almost cried. Awesome. I was just watching the DVD too; I love the way he sings Bullet Proof and House of Dreams. It really moves my soul. Thanks Jim. Please come back to Newmarket at soon as you can; you are my number one favourite.

Up Close and Personal

With a backdrop of the picturesque Okanagan Lake, Jim Cuddy, with bandmates Kathleen and Chris, lit up the night with many of the songs from "Pull Me Through," and some Blue Rodeo standards too. The music was terrific, as was the comradery and charisma of the band. Jim's presence, with a mixture of humour and tenderness, allowed him to share insight into many of his songs, which gave our already treasured favourites even more depth and punch.

The very up-close-and-personal event saw the band members interact with the audience, and even one-on-one with fans. Shaking Jim's hand, and being able to tell him personally how much I love his music was an unexpected highlight. I was sad to see and hear the concert come to a close, but so thankful that I was there to be a part of it. I am already looking forward to the next one.

Classy Yet Casual

I loved the show at Cedar Creek Winery. As always the shows you put on keep us looking forward to the next one! What I most like about your performances is the connection you have with the audience. Each time I see you, I feel I know you.... strange but true, not many performers have that gift. I've seen you solo or with the band 7-8 times over the years and each time it's a pleasure.

The show was classy yet casual, professional but laid back, I can't wait to see you again!

A Lovely End to Summer

Cedar Creek Winery could not have been a lovelier setting for this show. When introduced, Jim mentioned he had been in the area for a few days and was so relaxed he would only being doing mellow songs. He looked relaxed but the mellow part didn't last very long. Jim was joined by Colin Cripps & Kathleen Edwards. The view of the mountains & the lake on such a warm sunny night made for a perfect evening to listen to fabulous music & enjoy fine wine while watching the sun set.

The show had two sets with an intermission in between. It was quite amusing to see how an audience changes after an intermission at a winery. The first set the crowd was clearly enjoying themselves but after the intermission the audience was really raring to go. Jim, Colin & Kathleen seemed to be having a lot of fun & so were we. Colin didn't say a word but there was a lot of banter between Kathleen & Jim. I get quite a kick out of Kathleen. She & Jim sang so beautifully on Bad Timing & Kathleen's solo on Five Days are great despite her belief that she choked. Married Again was really fun. Kathleen's cheeky personality is perfect for that song. Colin's playing was incredible but then when isn't it?

Before playing a gorgeous stripped down beautiful version of Pull Me Through Jim told us he had been nominated for a CCMA's for Pull Me Through & lost to a song called Hold My Beer. That is just not right! Pull Me Through doesn't sound very country to me but I still think he should have won the award. A story about Greg & Jim heading to Alberta to get jobs in the logging or oil business followed by their realization that they were better suited for making beds and waiting tables at Lake Louise introduced Falling. I am not sure what is a funnier notion; the guys working as loggers or chamber maids? A kick ass version of Trust Yourself was an enormous hit with the crowd. Most of the audience sang along loudly & proudly to Try. Jim seemed surprised but pleased with everyone joining in & I must say it sounded quite good. What a lovely way to end the summer of 2007.

Jim and the band played a short set outdoors at Kelso Beach as the headliner of Owen Sound's Summerfolk festival Sunday night. They ran through several tunes from the new album (All I Need, Married Again, One Fine Day, Pull Me Through), one from his first solo album (Second Son) and a couple of Blue Rodeo tunes (5 Days In May, It Could Happen To You, After The Rain). The crowd, 2000 strong, seemed to enjoy the show. After the first song, a fan in the first row told Jim they couldn't hear him. After the second song, with no improvement in sound, Jim had the drummer move out front of his kit with just the snare and he played the rest of the show from there. Although Jim seemed upset, I think the move actually improved the vibe of the show and scaled back the bombast a bit - much more suited to the setting and the crowd. Come back soon Jim!

Awesome Entertainment

This was an absolutely superb concert and I did not want it to end. The venue provided a more intimate concert that was fantastic! I have never seen anyone play a violin like guest Kathleen--amazing performer. All of the band members were in top form and interacted so well together. Jim's voice on "Pull Me Through" brought me to tears. It was an amazing evening of the best music in the country. Awesome entertainment! Can't wait to see him again!

Another All-Round Excellent Show

This was another fantastic show by the Jim Cuddy Band with special guest violinist Kathleen Edwards. Jim and the band gave solid performances, as can always be expected. His crystal-clear voice is amazing. Judging by the applause, hooting and hollering from the audience, it appeared they were enjoying the immense talents of everyone. Kathleen did a terrific job substituting for Anne Lindsay and those were certainly very big shoes to fill. Kathleen was multi-tasking by singing background vocals and playing guitar as well. I think she earned the big bucks Jim was paying her; I believe he said she doesn't come cheap and we did enjoy!

What a pleasant surprise to see Oh Susanna as the opening act. Her unmistakably wonderful vocals and lyrics as well as her quick sense of humour didn't fail to disappoint. She sang songs primarily from her new CD as well as several others. This made for a solid 45-minute set. All in all it was one fabulous show.

Mr. Renaissance Man

My first time to see Jim and his band in such an intimate venue from a close to stage seat... It was the best entertainment value ever!! I enjoyed the way Jim shared the stage with bandmates while all the time giving direction and leadership... There was no mistaking, from my point of view, who was gladly giving guidance and supportive encouragement to the group. I thoroughly enjoyed the numerous times that bandmates had opportunity to strut their own stuff. To top it off, the leader, Jim himself, takes time to play lead guitar and piano on an apparantly equal par as his appointed bandmate.... Will he play violin or drums as well?? Great show. I would attend this show in the same kind of venue anytime and really look forward to a next time.

Loved Every Second

Caught the Jim Cuddy Band show at Deer Lake Park in Vancouver last night. All I can say is AWESOME. I took a BR/Jim Cuddy neophyte with me and she was blown away. Now she's coming to Malkin Bowl later in the month. I can't recall seeing Jim so relaxed and happy on stage, it was a really great vibe. And his confidence in going full-out for every single note was fantastic. My friend kept commenting on his incredible voice. We both loved every second of the set.

Ann was her usual amazing self on fiddle and Colin and Jim jammed off each other with some blazing guitar work. They did some Cuddy songs and some BR songs and the crowd enjoyed everything. Jim closed out the set with "Trust Yourself" (one of my all time faves), that totally rocked it. And his obvious enjoyment of the whole night was such a bonus - I don't think he stopped smiling the entire time they were on stage. And I'm still smiling this morning! Can't wait to see all the guys later this month. BTW, loved Bob's hippy tie-dye outfit - great homage to Woodstock in honour of CCR!

Rock Solid

Jim, our group of five enjoyed your warm up for John Fogarty last night. It was nice to hear your rock solid voice singing your finely crafted songs. I didn't know I could use the word 'frenzied' as an adjective for a fiddle player. What a great supporting crew you have behind you. My wife and I were looking forward to hearing "Pull Me Through" live, it has quickly become a favourite of ours, and the performance was most enjoyable. I could go on and one here but I just wanted to say thanks for enjoyable show, I wish it was more than the allotted 45 minutes, and we will look forward to future performances of the Jim Cuddy Band in Victoria, the home of The Bug Zoo.

Jim Cuddy, Guitar God

This was the third visit by the band to Edmonton since November, 2006. It was the largest indoor setting Jim and the gang have played here (as far as I know, including Blue Rodeo). But what a coup; opening for John Fogerty. Only half of Rexall Place was sectioned off for the concert, but it was full. I'm sure more tickets could have been sold easily.

As the J.C.B. was the opening act, their set was only 45 minutes long. Now, I've seen a fair amount of concerts this year, but none of the opening acts have finished with a standing ovation. Until tonight. Anyone familiar with the current tour knows that Anne Lindsay steals the show with her violin break in the middle of "Five Days In May". There was actually a standing ovation halfway through the song after Anne's part. Sorry Greg, but Blue Rodeo's version of this song live will never be as satisfying after hearing what Anne can do with it. She is so modest when it comes to accepting applause. And she's pretty darn sexy, too.

On another note, "Too Many Hands" and "The Light That Guides You Home" were played with a little quicker tempo than the recorded versions. The final two songs seemed to be getting progressively louder, but I think that was a result of Mr. Sound Mixer Guy getting ready for John Fogerty. His set was LOUD. Uncomfortably loud for these middle aged ears. It was good to see The Jim Cuddy Band in Edmonton again, sounding as polished as ever. Jim even played guitar god to the front row during the last song, dazzling the crowd with his lead guitar skills. Jim will be back in town with the other half of Blue Rodeo within a week at the Edmonton Folk Festival. Jim, why don't you just move out here? You know Edmonton always receives you well. And keep Anne Lindsay backstage for "Five Days In May". (Wink). Good job, everyone. Thanks for coming.

Smokin' Hot

Jim and his band were hired to warm the audience up for the main act - John Fogerty. Jim was fantastic and his band was amazing too. Special kudos to the violin player who was smokin' hot. Jim is one of the greatest male vocalist and I hope he gets all the recognition he so rightly deserves. It was one of the best concerts I have ever been to!

Short But Stellar

Great show by the Jim Cuddy Band last night, as they started the night off with a short but stellar set before John Fogerty took the stage. Amazing vocal performance as always by Jim, he delivered with passion and conviction. Really blown away by Anne Lindsay, what a violin player! "Pull Me Through" was chilling, "5 Days in May" had many offering a standing ovation, and my personal favourites of the set were "Trouble" and "Stagger In", which kicked ass! Great show, hope to see you all back here soon!

Dancing In The Aisles

Well, I have seen many concerts by Blue Rodeo and Jim Cuddy over the years, and this was one of the best yet! I was ready to dance in the aisles with the first song. Jim looks just as good as he did the first time I saw them a few years back.

Thank you for coming to our small town and enjoying our small theatre. The talent of the whole crew really "shone through" tonight - even the 'guitar tuner' was shining with his white shoes! Great Job!

Hitting the High Notes

Just an unbelievable display of talent!!!! I don't think i've ever heard Jim hit such a high note on "Try". AWESOME. Kudos goes to the entire band, especially Ann who managed... strike that..."DID" make her violin sing that day!!!! WOW! We're just totally amazed every time we see them live.

Loved The Neil Young Cover

What an amazing show! I have seen Blue Rodeo countless times and this was my 3rd time seeing The Jim Cuddy Band. I just love the band, Jim and his music. We had great seats and it was a very intimate setting, but I do have one comment. I think it would be better if when playing this venue the whole band was more to the front of the stage. Our seats were about 10 rows back to the side and we couldn't see Basil or the keyboard at all, and when Jim went to the piano to play "Pull Me Through," we couldn't see him either. I'm sorry I missed that part. The version of the Neil Young song "Tell Me Why" was awesome! Love that song and the way they did it. Brought back some old memories!! As always, Ann was spectacular and Justin was really great, funny too! Thanks for a fantastic evening of musical pleasure! Always look forward to seeing you!!

Excellent Show

Really enjoyed the show. My third for the JC Band, plus a couple for that other group. Got to do the meet and greet thing beforehand - how awkward is that! Thanks for autographing the photo I brought. Forgot to ask what was specified on their rider agreement for backstage treats. . . . As for the concert itself, I listened to A.L's solo and thought to myself, this is why I'd love to learn to play the fiddle, at the same time thinking my wife is going to hate this part! Sure enough, she called the fiddle solo "caterwalling." Anyhew, some people's taste is in their mouth. It was really nice to hear the background to the thought process of why some songs where written. "Pull Me Through" comes across as a nice song on the stereo, but Jim's intro made it into a real tear jerker. Was really impressed by the length of the concert and the effort put forth by all. See you again!

This Show Kicked It Up Yet Another Notch!

This show was phenomenal. I have been to a number of JCB shows and all are marvellous, but this one stands out. The energy of the band and the audience fed one another. The venue and acoustics were terrific. In addition to very good reviews posted on the BR website, there were many standing ovations for solos by individual band members. The continual banter by Jim with both the audience and the band made for a great connection. It was so nice to see Jim fresh from his Juno win as well as Anne Lindsay who won yet another accolade for her well-deserved talent. And of course Justin Rutledge's songwriter of last year's award. All JCB shows are superb, but this one was even a notch above in my opinion.

Where Does The Time Go?

Guess who had an amazing time, yuppers, that would be ME. Hard to imagine eh? NOT... OF COURSE I HAD A SUPER GOOD TIME HOW CAN YOU NOT????????

So we went into the theatre to get our seats and we're just sitting there and who is up on stage setting up his own equipment but Justin of course, so what do I do???? Hmmmmm I say HI JUSTIN, he looks over, smiles and waves and then left the stage, I wonder if I scared him off NNNNAAAAHHHHHH, not me it was because Justin had finished what he was doing. Anyways, we're sitting there and we were anxiously trying to see if there were anymore BR boardies but didn't really see any. So we just waited for the show to begin.

Punctually at 8:00 the lights dim, and who comes on stage, Justin and of course Baz not too far. Later on in the set, Bob Packwood came on as well. So I think that these are the songs that Justin sang as I wasn't writing them down 'cause I guess I had brainfreeze from some kind of excitement: Come Summertime, I'm Your Man, You're My Radio, Special, Robin's Tune, 1855, Too Sober To Sleep, Does It Make You Rain. When Justin came out on stage, he said that nobody probably knows who he is, but some of us yelled out to him, WE DO, now I don't know who those "some of us" were hehehehe. Once his set was over, he said that he would be out in the lobby for anyone who was interested in buying his CD. Well of course I went and bought one and I had him sign the CD sleeve and then why not get a picture of me and him. What a sweetie. He remembers his fans.

So, went back to the seats just as the lights started to dim. Then one by one, Jim, Anne, Colin, Joel, Baz and Bob come onto the stage. Jim glances through the first few rows and then says "Looks like I know everyone here" That's a GOOD sign. He also mentioned that this was gonna be a "no swearing" show as Colin's mom was in the audience. Then of course, he had to rub it in all the time that this was Colin's day and that we should be applauding Colin cause his mom was here. So every so often, someone would yell something out. There was a ton of banter which was AWESOME but of course, what you don't want Jim to hear, of course, he'll hear hmmmmmm. Anyways, this is the setlist that I was writing down" Second Son, Whistler, All I Need, Too Many Hands, Married Again - no Kathleen but was still awesome, and Jim told the story of how this song came to be What She Said - very moving story and even though I've heard it before a few times, it still moved me deeply, Til I Am Myself Again, Countrywide Soul, I'M Gonna Die One Sunny Day with Justin, Bad Timing with Justin, Falling with Justin Tell Me Why (Neil Young cover) with Justin, 5 Days in May----Anne and Colin rocked during their solos, One Fine Day-Jim told us the background on this and just talking some about politics and what's happening, Mr. President Have Pity on the Working Man - Baz did an awesome job, Pull Me Through - Jim told the story behind the song and a pin could drop and you could hear it, Maybe Sometime, It Could Happen To You, Try - no words to explain this song, The Light That Guides You Home, Trust Yourself - well of course we were up for this song as I know it's the last song. Encore: Stagger In, Truscott.

During the show, like I said, a lot of banter and Jim of course was talking about Hamilton and what they thought of the Leafs and he was TRYING to have a conversation with a gentlemen in the second row but too many people tried to put their two cents worth in, and Jim being the gentleman that he is, listened and then said "I want to hear what this man has to say so give us a minute" then he laughed at his response cause he had said, that the Leafs give all their players away to Detroit and then Detroit wins the cup. Then Jim says, hmmmm maybe we should stop talking and play some music. Like I said, it was just a super duper show, I loved it tremendously but then how could you not. Then the show was OVER Tell me why do GOOD times go by soooooo quickly?????

Right Up Front

One word: UNBELIEVABLE. I saw Jim & the band perform at the Spectrum (Montreal) in November - absolutely loved the show. My friend and I were front row and centre and I honestly believed I had hit the jackpot when it came to concerts. That was until I hopped in my car and drove to Whitby to see Jim & pals play in front of 500 people. We were fortunate enough to be right up front. The concert was one of the best I've seen. What I truly love about Jim is his passion for performing - not for fame or fortune, but his true love of the art of music. He is so down to earth. My sis and I were so lucky to meet him afterward. Jim - may you and your band never change. You put on one helluva show. Love the Montrealer, Tiff

We Love "Pull Me Through"

In March we saw "Pull Me Through" on CMT; hit reverse on the remote. Who was this captivating person singing this amazing song? Jim Cuddy! Who's Jim Cuddy? (Internet search to the rescue.) Next learning curve: how does Ticketmaster work? Results: tickets to see Jim Cuddy at Johnny B's in Whitby, Ontario on April 14/07. After 2+ hr. drive from Minden to Whitby; 3 hr. wait from door opening to performance; (standing room only that is) Jim Cuddy took the stage. He put on an electrifying and inspiring performance that never stopped until 12:30. How fortunate we all are to have such a talented performer who seems so genuine and humble. Future Jim Cuddy music similar to "Pull Me Through" should certainly be an even bigger success than the highly successful music of Blue Rodeo.

I Did Not Want the Evening to End

This was only the 2nd time I had ever seen Jim play - the first time for the Jim Cuddy Band. I LOVED it. We were on our feet singing and dancing. The evening ended way too soon. The banter that Jim does back and forth with the audience is fun and I have to admit, I did not want the evening to end. Thank you for a fantastic show. I can't wait to see you again. (And I did!)

Jim and Justin put on a great show, at a great venue. Jim played almost every song from the new album, but surprisingly played nothing from All in Time which we all truly love. We had not heard of Justin Rutledge prior to the show, and we were pleasantly surprised that they played together, first playing one of Jim's songs then next playing a Justin song. Justin has a real future, and we all became instant fans. It was a nice relaxed show with Jim taking a moment to explain many of the new songs. Thanks for that because I was wondering what the heck "Married Again" was about and now I know. Jim - please come back to NYC soon, and please be sure to play at Joe's Pub again - we loved it there. It was really special getting to meet you after the show too. PS - bring Blue Rodeo to Joe's Pub too!!

Perfect Voice

Great show last night. Jim performed with Justin, accompanied by Donavan (?) on bass. The two traded off songs right through to encores. Highlights were "Pull Me Through" and "Bad Timing." Jim's voice was perfect, very relaxed mellow show. Justin also sounded great, and clearly enjoyed the night. Hope to see Jim again in NYC soon.

A Poet For Our Time

Jim's concert at Brock University was apparently the last one of the tour and I'm glad he added it to his itinerary. We had great seats--six rows from the front, centre stage. When Blue Rodeo played Brock Centre for the Arts a couple of years ago, my husband and I went with the same two friends who joined us this time for Jim's performance. I got his new CD as a birthday gift, and that allowed us to become familiar with the new songs (no need to apologize for playing new music, Jim).

The highlight of the show for me was "Pull Me Through." Lyricists are the poets of our age, or at least the ones heard by much of society. This ballad and "Falling Down Blue" secure the title "poet" for Jim. The language of both ballads paints with such soft and simple strokes the bewilderment of grief and the permanence of loss. You honour both your aunt and your uncle with this song, Jim. I'm grateful for surgery that has restored your voice. Man, no pressure on the surgeon--it's one thing to perform laser surgery on my vocal chords, completely another to do so on Jim Cuddy's. The venue is a great one--a small theatre, but one with good sound and seating all around. The concert was great--loved the variety, with other artists joining in on several songs and the way it was well paced. Keep this talented violinist on the payroll, Jim! I could hardly wait for the concert and I wasn't disappointed. Outstanding performances by everyone. Merry Christmas too everyone in the band.

A Very Special Night

The first time I saw, and I use that word loosely, BR was back in my U.W.O. days in 1987 (I think) and to be honest, I don't remember much of it. Well, 20 years passing has seen me mature and embrace the type of music that Jim Cuddy produces year in and year out, with Blue Rodeo and without. So it was with great anticipation that I, my wife, my Mom, and my Dad, strolled into Cowboy's Ranch on that cold Wednesday night in London. Jim did not disappoint. From "Too Many Hands," to "All in Time" to "Bad Timing" and to, I'm sure, the entire new album, Jim ran the gamut of his tremendous musical career. But what I'll remember most about this night, besides Jim's wonderful voice and songs, is that I was able to share this night with my Mom who is fighting cancer right now and believe me, I know now more than ever that nothing should be taken for granted, nothing is more important than those you love, and those special memories you have with your family will last you forever. Thank you for such a wonderful night, Jim. It will be one of those special memories for me.

Great Mix Of Songs

Absolutely incredible concert Jim. Totally enjoyed your new music (in particular "Country Wide Soul") as well as your songs from Blue Rodeo (especially "It Could Happen To You"). My husband particularly enjoyed the song you Justin and Colin sang from Neil Young. Basil's single was very moving. Ann's violin and mandolin playing lifted the crowd up to another level. Jim, I've admired your music with Blue Rodeo ever since my brother's band lost their drummer to Blue Rodeo. I started listening to you (just because of your drummer) and haven't stopped since you sang "Try." Your music has become my travelling music to and from work. Thanks so much for so many years of "down to earth" lyrics we can relate to. Keep it up Jim, you're the best!

Venue's A Dive But the Show was Great

I attended last nights show at Cowboy's Ranch in London, other than the venue being an absolute dive, the show was fantastic. It was also my first time seeing Justin R, the opening act, and his vocals were outstanding. As for the Jim Cuddy band they were incredible, the sound was fantastic and each musician played amazing. What a Fantastic, Awesome December 3rd Concert

Justin Rutledge opened up for Jim, which lasted a half-hour. He even had Bazil and Bob from Blue Rodeo in his band. His performance was really great. Wait a go Justin! Now talk about another totally out of this world concert! When Jim and the rest of his band came on the stage to perform, all I heard was the audience screaming and clapping their hands. I myself was totally so excited and overwhelmed how lively of a performance Jim started out with. What a voice and pitch he has! Yet, who would have ever thought he recently had throat surgery? He also knew how to draw the audience with each and everyone of his gigs. I don't think my face was this sore ever before, if you know what I mean?

My husband even liked all his songs and thought the band was also great. Yet, he is originally from England and the music was totally awesome! So much, he sent all his family in England Jim's new CD. I must say, Jim's performances just kept the crowd clapping etc... I know it sure got my feet tapping to the beat. I sure couldn't get over how awesome his violinist, Anne Lindsay sounded. Her performance was also fantastic. Even the sound from keyboardist, Bob Packwood was totally awesome. Also, I couldn't believe how great of a song Bazil sang. It indeed was also awesome! So once again, last night's concert was just totally out of this world! So much, I can't wait till we go to Jim's other concert!

Another Great Solo Show

Loved Jim and it was an extra bonus to see and hear Greg as well.. Jim and the band are always great...Ann Lindsay was awesome, she has such a wonderful energy. The venue wasn't the best, but we could walk there and back, which was a bonus for us. Hope Jim enjoyed himself... And I must apologize to Basil, I think I must have been very annoying; I had had too much to drink (six beers in as many hours? I gotta be getting old!) and all I wanted was to let Basil know just how good he is (I was the one who asked him for his birthdate). So please pass on to Basil my good wishes. I have seen Jim and Blue Rodeo play lots of times, but I think I have to say the best time I have had so far, was seeing Jim Cuddy play at the Red Barn in Oshawa (first solo album). It was perfect. Great Music, Bad Venue

I had purchased the tickets for the show several weeks ago and was anticipating a great night of entertainment. When we arrived at the venue disappointment enveloped me when I realized that we were going to be forced to stand for the whole evening. There was no seating at all. The same feeling was evident on the faces of many fans as they arrived for the show. Jim's fans are a mature demographic so this choice of venue was not appropriate.

We waited for two hours before Justin Rutledge hit the stage. The pain in our feet and back was soon forgotten as Justin displayed his wonderful singer/songwriter talents. Jim is wise to bring this young man under his wing. Then, after another half hour intermission where the crowd jostled for something to lean on, Jim hit the stage. How quickly the energy entered my body. What a great talent he is, and that voice!! Certainly one of the most talented singers in the industry today. BONUS: It was Jim's 50th birthday and all his friends and family were there. Greg included. For the encore Greg joined Jim and Basil and the rest of the Jim Cuddy band (Anne is amazing!) and the crowd was treated to a dose of BR.

In spite of the poor choice of venue (I know that wasn't Jim's fault) the show was the usual entertaining treat that is provided at all BR and Jim Cuddy shows. BTW Happy Birthday Jim!!!!

Outstanding!

I stood there and noticed the next generation in awe. I just wanted to express my sincere admiration for Jim Cuddy. He really is remarkable. I have been a fan for over 20 years and I am so impressed with his sustainable talent! Not only is his voice that is amazing, the words to his music will actually touch your mind. How many songs can touch our minds and warm our hearts at the same time. Few. It almost seems like an underlying magic that bring fans, young and old out over and over again. He is a "pure" Canadian Masterpiece. Rare, in its truest form. I believe most people reflect on their own lives through Jim's music and that's what makes it simply beautiful. A Night to Remember

The warm-up band didn't seem to have a name. The individual musicians were introduced by the lead singer, but it would have been nice if someone introduced them before they started to perform. There was a good mix of old Blue Rodeo tunes (from the beginning to the present of their career) and Jim Cuddy songs. I really enjoyed "Too Many Hands" and "Pull Me Through". The use of different instruments for certain parts of the songs than on the original recordings gave them a unique live sound. The show was lively, and very enjoyable. Jim's interaction with the audience was comical and light. The Neil Young song was beautiful. Also, the Beatles song was well done. Way to mix it up and keep it fresh. This is the first solo show I've seen and it was great. Keep up the good work. It was also nice to see how versatile Basil Donovan is. He played continuously with the warm up band and the Jim Cuddy Band! Quite a work out! He played more than any other musician that night. Way to go Basil! The guitar player that backed Jim had phenomenal talent along with the vocalist and the violinist. The highlight for the evening was when you all sat down, played and harmonized. Thank you for an enjoyable, memorable evening.

Songs Are So Relatable

Having truly enjoyed your music for many years and seeing you in concert many times before, it was no surprise to me how much I enjoyed your show....it would have been just a little better if I could have talked one of the women with the white hair in the front row to swap my 12th row seat with me, but they would have nothing to do with that offer. Lucky them!

Anyhow, this is more than a review of your show...I mostly wanted to tell you how much your new CD has meant to me. I think most people, when listening to lyrics of some types of songs, try to relate something of themselves into it. That makes it more personal and will often cause me and most likely others, to have a "favourite" track. When I first heard "What She Said," I was trying to find meaning in it for where my life is at this moment...three months separated after 25 years. "Could it be me, waiting in wonder. I don't even know what's in your mind." Yes, there certainly are lines that made sense.

But then, weeks after buying the CD, I read something you had said about writing that song after conversations you'd had with friends of yours whose child had been very sick in the hospital. Well, about 11 years ago, my son who was 8 at the time, was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. He became very ill, very quickly and as a result had to spend almost month at the Children's Hospital at MacMaster. I would not leave him there alone and so night and day I spent with him. He was so sick and things were happening to his tiny body that were totally out of control. Your song has brought back every emotion that I lived those days. The first time I listened to it after I knew the background, it brought me to a startling halt. I felt everything all over again and it ripped me apart. I understood every line, every word, every emotion that you wrote. I want you to know how deeply the words in "What She Said" affect me. You nailed that one so hard. I can hear it sometimes now without shedding tears, but when I really listen, it will still hit me hard every time.

And so, when you performed it at the concert, I knew it was going to get to me.... and sure enough!! I suppose it's a good thing that one of those sweet women wouldn't swap seats with me as I wouldn't have had two great friends there with me holding my hand through that song. So, thank you Jim, for helping me to remember how fortunate I am that my son, Andrew, has come so far and for remembering how fragile life can be... to love, appreciate and be passionate about all the great people in my life.

Fantastic show!

Full of energy and great music. Encore - was much too short and .... I really wanted to hear "Try!" Jim, we're so lucky you realized you had musical talent and ability and left the dishwashing and taking out the garbage in Lake Louise to share you music with us. Your voice is...beautiful and distinctive, so expressive, ranking up there with the all-time greats, who are world-renowned and legends for generations now. You will be, too.

Loved the Format

Really liked new songs and explanation of what led to song idea. Also Neil Young's song was a great acoustic/vocal arrangement. Awesome group of musicians led by Jim who connects so well with the audience. Jim is so generous by giving opportunities to other musicians (such as Justin Rutledge and Katherine Edwards) to shine. It would have been even better if the sound was more balanced. Keyboards and lead guitar were overshadowed by violin and drums. Enjoying the new CD too!

My Daughter Made Me Go

Another wonderful night of Jim!! Great show as always, except we had to sit in the balcony - I waited too long for tickets. I had planned on going to the Kingston show, but my 16 year old daughter begged me to take her to a Jim Cuddy show. She's seen Blue Rodeo with me quite a few times but after listening to the new CD really wanted to see him. She was thrilled when Ann Lindsay struck up a conversation with her in the lobby before the show & even more thrilled with the chance for a picture with Jim after the show. What a gracious man he is! Incredible Amount of Energy

My husband and I bought tickets to this show approximately one month prior to seeing it. I couldn't wait to see Jim as I'm a huge fan of his and have never seen him perform solo. Jim truly did not disappoint. He was on stage continuously for two hours and is amazing! I could have stay even longer watching him perform and I'm sure a lot of the audience felt exactly the same. The amount of energy that he has is incredible and the fact that he can play a number of different instruments is impressive. I like the fact that his songs are based on true life experiences. Looking forward to seeing him again in the future.

The Perfect Night

My wonderful husband, Mike, surprised me with tickets to Saturday night's show. I've been a BR fan since I was 10 and I've been a HUGE Jim Cuddy fan. The show was incredible. I've never seen Jim so animated! He was talking to the crowd throughout the show and really seemed to be enjoying himself. Anne Lindsay's solo on the violin during "Five Days in May" was just...well...nothing short of amazing! The audience's standing ovation in the middle of the song was completely right on. Utterly fantastic! The best part of the night was finding out that the band was going over to a bar a couple of doors down from the Music Hall. With the help of my husband (I was just a little starstruck) I got to meet Jim, have my picture taken with him and got his autograph! My fantasy world met up with reality! It was absolutely out of this world for me! Wow! I also met Bob, Basil and Ann. Everyone was so nice and really friendly. Thanks for a night of my dreams!!!!!

It's Always Getting Better

In anticipation of seeing Jim and his band, my husband and I had a drink at home before heading off in a cab to see the show. We were discussing our favourite "Jim" song which of course is an enormous question given the vastness of his song catalogue. At that moment my husband put on a vinyl recording of The Days In Between carefully dropping the needle on "Always Getting Better", which at that moment was just the most perfect song. We concurred that it is indeed one of Jim's greatest. So, lo and behold when later that night, he played that very song with Colin doing that spectacular "wha-wha" thing on the guitar. We just turned to look at each other with sheer bliss, thinking those very thoughts - that it's "Always Getting Better." Jim never, ever ceases to amaze me with his talent and capacity to "give 'er" singing and playing, night after night.

An Outstanding Show

Jim Cuddy is a gifted musician destined to become a true Canadian legend. His voice resonates with a harmony and sincerity that grabs you on the first chord and never lets you go. Leading off with the amazing Justin Rutledge the night started on a high and continued to climb with every song. Jim Cuddy and his Band gave an outstanding performance and an encore to match. I do not remember ever being as entertained and moved by a group of musicians as I was Saturday night. I can only look forward to the next opportunity to experience Jim's phenomenal talent - in the meantime I will listen to what will surely become the definitive Jim Cuddy song - "Pull Me Through". The Light Shown in Toronto

My wife and I went to both shows, but our favorite was Friday night. Jim didn't sign autographs after the show. I'm sure it was due to the huge crowd and the very small lobby at the Danforth. There was a meet and great in the theater but we didn't have an invitation. We waited around in hopes of getting in but security banished us to the outer lobby. After about 20 minutes, Jim came out to greet us, sign autographs and take pictures. He was so gracious! That's why we support him by making the trek from Cleveland Ohio when we can. A few highlights - "That's What She Said" gave me goose bumps - a truly gifted singer and story teller. The "sit down" segment of the show was fantastic. It felt like I sneaked into a room to watch a bunch of friends get together and jam - down home style. Tell Me Why" and "Bad Timing" were such great songs for that setting. The final song of the night, "Truscott" was a real treat and a great surprise. It's one of my favorite Blue Rodeo songs. My wife won one of the drawings for the Jim Cuddy prize pack - thanks jimcuddy.com!

Can't Wait For The Next Show

The songs on the new album are among Jim's best, and hearing them live did not disappoint. Anne Lindsay was on fire, and her passion really set the tone for the entire show. Jim had mentioned in a recent interview that he was attempting to perfect "Draggin' On" (from Tremolo) for the live stage. As this is one of our favourite underplayed Blue Rodeo tracks, we are still hopeful that he will persist and present it at a later show!

Perfect Birthday Present

What a truly AMAZING show!! My friend treated me to the show for my birthday which just perfectly fell on November 24th. Having been a rabid BR fan for years, it was the perfect gift. I bought "Pull Me Through" the first day it was out and have enjoyed listening to it over and over. A Special Bond in Montreal

There is definitely a special relationship between Jim (and Blue Rodeo) and their Montreal audiences, where they have almost a cult-like following. The show at The Spectrum on Thursday night was no exception and Jim and the band were in excellent form. Everyone (band and audience) had so much fun! It was like a great big party in someone's basement. We were all dancing and shouting and singing along to all the tunes - even the new CD - evidently I am not the only one who listens to it over and over in my car. The violinist was absolutely remarkable and the camaraderie amongst Jim and the band members was truly unique. Every single song was magic. Please come back sooner rather than later! Loved Every Second of It

The Jim Cuddy Band put on an amazing show on Thursday night at the Montreal Spectrum! They played almost every song from Jim's latest CD and I love the songs even more now that I've heard them live! Oh! And Jim's voice never sounded better! I especially loved when he did "Pull Me Through" at the piano. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves so much! They did "Bad Timing" during the acoustic set and it turned into one big sing-along! I actually had some room to move and I was able to dance all night - "Stagger In" is one rocking song! Justin Rutledge did a fine job opening the show. A huge thank you to Jim and his band for coming to Montreal and giving us such a wonderful night of music! I loved every second of it!

A Great Birthday Weekend

A fantastic performance and a day that I will never forget in my life. I was able to hear Jim Cuddy LIVE for the first time ever after listening to his music many years back in Cuba. The whole band played beautifully and hearing Jim sing every song was like a journey into many great stories. I especially loved Anne' violin solos, Jim's guitar solo and on piano for "Pull me Through" and Bazil's song that rocked :) Thank you for giving me the opportunity to meet you and make my birthday weekend so special! Jim and Justin A Great Combo!

I have seen Blue Rodeo in Halifax several times at the Cohn and Jim solo years ago at the Marquis Club. This was one of the best performances ever! Jim has a better voice than ever before (surgery has made it even more incredible - if that is possible!) and at 50 he is still one of the best - look out Justin - in Canadian talent and not hard to look at. AND his songwriting keeps getting better! The new CD is incredible. Many songs give you goose bumps and seeing them performed live was so worth it! The band has a great dynamic and Anne Lindsay livens up the show with her amazing violin playing as well as bassist Basil who is always a crowd favourite.

The overzealous woman in the pink cowboy hat added some interest and luckily she respected Jim's wishes to stick with the program. Well sorta. She was persistent though! Enough already about "Almost Persuaded"... I looked for the song?? to no avail...I have all the CDs I thought. My girlfriends and I had a great night out; we'd never miss a BR or JC concert at the Cohn! He has done it again and with a few lbs on, (much better than the too-slim Jim) he looks and sings better then ever. Justin was great as well and for an opening act he made you sit up and pay attention; sometimes a difficult feat before a Cuddy Concert. Thanks Jim and the band for a wonderful time in Halifax at the Cohn.

Lots Of Smiles All Around

Fantastic. So glad I bought The Light that Guides You Home before the show otherwise I would have to buy it today. I've seen Blue Rodeo four times (so far) but to my surprise I enjoyed the Jim Cuddy Band just as much. The band was great, Jim's voice as good as ever and Anne on fiddle was ...well she got a standing O. Jim seemed so comfortable up there that he reminded me of Harry Chapin talking (ultimate compliment) between songs. The smiles were obviously very sincere both on stage and in the audience. I know mine was. I'm still smiling. Thanks so much.

What an amazing night! Jim's voice was in tip top shape and the band was excellent. He played a good mix of new songs and classic Blue Rodeo tunes for two hours. He played piano to "Pull Me Through," captivating the audience with his voice and beautiful lyrics. Jim's return to Halifax was a special evening. That was one of the most enthusiastic Rebecca Cohn crowds ever. Jim is back in top vocal form, even when the band was a little too hot. Quality songs from one EXCEPTIONAL singer. and Jim is one of the good guys too. "Pull Me Through" is so good; I can hear Keith Urban singing it. However, Jim's version has raised the bar - the man's a pro.

A Magical Night

Quite magical it was: great ensemble playing and Jim's voice has never sounded better. His interplay with the audience was comical at times as he competed with an over-zealous fan in the front row. Justin's set I think caught the audience off-guard. He won himself a new audience last night. Have to add watching Basil is worth the price of admission itself. He is quite an extraordinary bassist.

Future Opening Act?

This show was exhilarating especially since I met Baz and Jim and gave them one of our demo CDs! When I boldly declared to Baz that "We're going to open for you guys someday" he looked puzzled and asked bluntly, "Who are you?" My band has been playing heavily around the Maritimes for over five years now and I credit Jim Cuddy and BR with the inspiration to perform and write. Every musician has their idols, and mine is Jim Cuddy. After I bought Five Days in July in high school I vowed that I was going to be a singer/songwriter just like these guys (although I could NOT sing and could barely play guitar). Although my own compositions hint at many rock influences, people always ask me, "Is that a new BR song??" My friends surprised me with box seat tickets that night and we so close to the action! I know I shouldn't have, but I got a great shot of Jim out front that I dressed up a little. Both photos from the concert are perpetually at the top of our photos page on our website (intandemband.com). I hope you guys liked my CD! I still tell myself that my band is going to open for you someday! :-)

A Great Storyteller

Hi all. Just wanted to take a moment and tell everyone what a great show Jim & gang put on last night. Jim continues to perform with an ease that makes you feel like he's right in your own kitchen, knocking back a few and just jamming with the lads. The band is made up of talented artists and the audience interaction was extremely natural and appreciated. It's great to see Jim playing classic instruments like the Martin D-28 and Gibson J-45. Never Retire Jim!

The show in Ottawa was excellent, as I knew it would be. Jim's intimacy with the audience was much appreciated. He more than satisfied us with a good variety - songs from his new CD, a few from All in Time and some Blue Rodeo favourites. I especially enjoyed hearing "Truscott" again. His voice has never been better, his every song filled with an abundance of passion. I expected them to be exhausted by the time they hit the capital, following their western tour, but the energy and interaction on stage was overwhelming. He just gets better and better. Let's hope he NEVER retires. He is definitely Canada's finest! I've had the new CD since the day it came out, and "Pull Me Through" still brings a wee tear to my eye.

We Want To See You Again

The show in Victoria opened with a bang and didn't let up! Anne Lindsay's violin work amazing as was her dancing-bow-air fencing! Jims voice was clear, controlled, measured, and at times, soul piercing. Just lovely. Piano, dead-on bass rhythms, drums, guitar, harp also added to a full, energetic and creative night. Amazing Energy

What an amazing concert. The venue was perfect. Justin Rutledge was awesome. Two solid hours by Jim Cuddy and friends on stage was unbelievable. I couldn't believe the energy up on the stage. A terrific mix of Cuddy tunes and Blue Rodeo songs. The violinist was insane and all the musicians were great. Long-Time Fan

Jim Cuddy does not hold back for anytime I have ever seen him perform. For over 20 years I've been standing in line to get tickets and to push politely up to the front of the stage to see Jim and the Boys (mostly with Blue Rodeo)Jim is a gifted musician. His talent is showcased with his songwriting techniques, amazing vocals, guitar, piano, harmonica playing. He is smooth and flawless and always gives the audience more than what they expect to see. I respect Jim for his efforts and to show off his band shows he is a genuine guy. I had tears in my eyes as he sat and played "Pull Me Through." The story behind the song and the heart touching vocals, you could literally hear a pin drop everyone was just stunned. Jim you are an amazing artist and I thank you for coming to our fair city again and giving me 2.5 hours solid hours of pure home grown entertainment. You are the best and for the next 20 years I will support any and everything that you do.

I just have to say that each time I see Jim Cuddy perform, I am in awe...First time I have seen him at the Commodore and I must admit, the intimate setting was an amazing venue to see Jim perform...also loved the performance by Justin Rutledge and the rest of the band...You guys were a blast...thanks for the the memories...One concert my friend Carol and I (the front row girls) will never forget.

What does one say? After 20 years of listening to the man, he still manages to rock my world -- and my soul. The show tonight was without doubt one of the best concerts I've ever seen. It was a privilege to be at the Commodore Ballroom this evening: a small setting but a powerful experience. The new songs are wonderful, and the energy and passion Jim has for his music is evident in each and every line. And the way he lets the musicians in his band shine, and shows such respect to THEIR abilities is the reason why this guy just keeps getting more and more popular. We are definitely not worthy! It has been years since my wife and I have seen Jim. I am so glad we went; it was worth the two-hour drive. Unbelievable vocals...insane, insane violinist....the whole show gave us goose bumps!!!! I wish Jim would be on the west coast more, as well as Blue Rodeo!!! Such heartfelt, down deep music!!! Hey Jim, next time you are in town, my wife is bringing her corncob harmonica, and is going to be right up front at the stage, playing along!! (grins)

Well Worth Your Money

AMAZING!!! What more can you say about Jim Cuddy. It was by far the best concert I have ever been to. The acoustics at Winspear Centre were so excellent!! I was so impressed by the amount of time he spent on stage. It was a full two hours of great tunes from his solo projects as well as some BR favourites. Opening Act Justin Rutledge was a great act. I ran out after his set and bought his CD and had him sign it! I really liked that he brought Rutledge out on stage during his set to sing a few songs with him. Overall, I absolutely LOVED Jim Cuddy and his performance.

Even My Husband Loves Jim

Wow, is really all I can say about Jim Cuddy! He is the most talented, sexy and sweetest Canadian performer we have in this fine country! I'm just jealous that my voice isn't the back up vocals and that Anne gets to tour with Jim. Oops don't tell my husband! I Would Like To Gush A Little More

After reading the review I posted in the wee hours of the morning following the concert, I realized just how inadequate and shallow my words seemed to be, so please allow me to gush a little more accurately.

It was sheer delight to finally get to see Jim actually perform his own material, with such fantastic back-up, enthusiasm, and obvious joy! It was quite a shock when they played Blue Rodeo material ("Bad Timing" especially) that it was almost too emotionally overwhelming (yeah, we cried through the whole thing). And when Justin Rutledge and his band came out to join in on an old Neil Young and other fab songs (nice Cuddy Ruddy shirt!), it was intensely obvious just how incredible these two song writers are, and how lucky we all are to claim them as Canadians! To hear the new material live (the entire album is FANTASTIC, the writing is deep, raw, and eloquent) was so much fun, it was hard not to get up and dance (so we finally did!). Hearing the intimate stories of the inspiration for the songs gave new and deeper meaning to them...there wasn't a dry human eye in the house for "Could It Be Me" and "Pull Me Through." Next time I'll know to bring a box of tissue. I should also be shot for not shouting aloud about the fantastic players, their wild chemistry (and am ashamed to not know all their names by heart, but I will!) Annie...Thank you for a bewitching, passionate, electrifying performance! Holy Freaking Cow!!! And it's always a fabulous treat to hear Baz and Bob (the talent of these two men is almost too much to bear, but I'll suffer gladly). So come back soon! I do have to say that Justin Rutledge is a word-weaving Merlin that drops my jaw with his phrases and imagery. I've been listening to his new album constantly and am kicking myself I didn't buy his first one last night...though that, too, shall come. I can't wait to see all of you again! Again, Peace and Blessings!

Vintage Cuddy

The Edmonton leg of the Jim Cuddy tour displayed once again the talent of one of the best voices in Canadian music. Although a few Blue Rodeo songs were performed to awaken the sleepy Edmonton fans, it was the performance of songs from the new album which took me back (although I am guilty of enjoying the songs from the Casino album, being my first introduction to the band). It certainly added dimension to the new album listening to Jim describe the influence and inspiration of the songs. The highlight of the evening was the performance of "Pull Me Through," only to the fact that this should win Song of the Year. Vintage Cuddy!

Jim Is So At Home on The Stage

The evening was intimate and full of talent. The band coming on stage so carefree was so refreshing to see. Jim was so at home on stage, he really made the audience feel like he was one of them. It was very apparent how much he appreciates and respects the talent of him band members, watching them as they displayed their musical ways. It was wonderful to hear a few Blue Rodeo hits. The introductions to the songs were great, it was so nice to hear how the songs where born for Jim. Jim's voice during "Pull Me Through" brought a tear to my eye. I am proud to share the title of Canadian with him. Your song writing and your God given gift of song have make me think, laugh, and cry over the years and I anxiously await new projects from you and Blue Rodeo.

After a month wait, I was excited that Jim was finally here and I was looking forward to hearing him sing his songs (along with some extra BR stuff). He did not disappoint. Here is the set list from the show (based on my memory - so I hope I got it all right and in the right order). Someone please correct me if I am wrong. Justin Rutledge opened the show with a very short set. I really enjoyed his songs. One of his songs was about the "CAGE" in the Commercial Hotel (a past favourite drinking establishment of mine). His songs had that BR feel to them and showcased perhaps one of the newest upcoming talents. Of course, tomorrow, I "need" to go out and buy his CD.

Jim's show opened to applause as the band quickly strolled onto the stage, picked up their instruments and started playing. They opened with 1. Second Son - It didn't take long to notice Anne Lindsay on fiddle. 2. Whistler 3. All I Need 4. Too Many Hands 5. Married Again (Jim explained this song) 6. What She Said 7. Country Wide Soul (this was dedicated to the Canadian Finals Rodeo that was currently in town) 8. Till I Am Myself Again. Justin Rutledge joined Jim to play 9. I m Gonna Die One Sunny Day. Justin got a reaction from Jim with his "Cuddy Nuddy" t-shirt. 10. Bad Timing 11. Falling (Jim introduced this song with a story about Greg and him coming to Alberta many years ago to look for work "mining" and possibly going to B.C. to work "logging." They met a few miners and loggers in the bar who after seeing that they were missing fingers and appendages, decided to do something else.) 12. Tell Me Why (A Neil Young song). After this song Justin left. 13. Five Days in May (this song opened with a big driving drum intro by Joel, and included an incredible fiddle solo by Anne and guitar solo by Collin). 14. Always Getting Better (?). During a quiet part, a team of girls yelled out in unison "I love you" and Jim replied "I admire your bravery for saying that." 15. Maybe Sometime ? 16. One Fine Day (Jim repeated that it was only one man's opinion about George Bush) 17. Pull Me Through (Jim introduced the song by explaining the story behind this song). Bas stepped forward and played 18. Ole Wine Drinker Me 19. It Could Happen To You 20. The Light That Guides You Home 21. Trust Yourself ENCORE: 22. Stagger In 23. Trustcott (?).

Throughout the show Bob Packwood's keyboard was incredible. In the Winspear the sound is perfect and very crisp. Quite memorable was Anne Lindsay's fiddle playing as she would dance around the stage with a lower left leg back kick. To me, she is a keeper. You knew she really enjoyed playing as she sported this huge smile when she played. Jim and band played for over two hours. When the show was over, I could have listened to Jim play more. I look forward to Jim, Greg and BR coming back. You can never get enough. I'll be the first in line should Jim decide to put out a live CD... Lastly, thanks for an incredible, awesome show Jim, Anne, Collin, Basil, Bob, Joel and Justin and for coming to Edmonton to play.

I Could Have To More

I had been eagerly anticipating this show since I heard that Jim was touring and since I purchased his new CD the day it was released. What an amazing show, music was fabulous, Jim's voice was great, the variety was good and Jim was very entertaining & funny. I thought about then running up to Banff two days later to catch him there but could not manage it. Have seen BR about eight times over the years and I must say that this was one of my favorite shows. One thing, the Jack Singer concert hall would not be my first choice to see Jim Cuddy. The sound is fine but I wanted to stand up and move around and dance all evening and I could not wedged in a seat. Glad we got to move around during the encore. Could have listened to another two hours of Jim!!

Never Has He Been in Finer Form

What a pleasure it was to once again attend a concert by one of Canada's premier singer/songwriters. As a long time Blue Rodeo fan I have seen Jim perform many times throughout the years. Never has he been in finer form than he was in last nights show. Jim is clearly at the top his creative and musical game! What a wonderful performance of beautifully created songs. A great collection of talented band members complemented Jim's musical talents and his rich soulful voice. The new songs are very personal to Jim and they were all fantastic in performance. Jim's introduction and story behind his new song "Pull Me Through" was truly moving, as he spoke about his aunt's illness and his uncle's grieving as inspiration for this song. I was moved to tears as Jim shifted over to the piano to perform this song. Lots of kick in new songs like "One Fine Day" (sorry Mr President) and "Stagger In" as Jim playfully traded guitar licks with guitarist Colin Cripps. Always great to hear the beloved staples such as "Bad Timing" and "Five Days in May." And for good measure a few surprises were even included into the set mix, with seldom performed BR songs such as "Always Getting Better" and the final encore song the very mellow "Truscott" to end the show. Memorable... Magnificent and Moving! Thanks again Jim for a great show! Your many musical talents continue to be a gift to us all.

Got his CD on My Birthday

It's hard to put in words how great it was. The performance was perfect and I got what I expected and more. It's so good to see the real thing. I have enjoyed Blue Rodeo for the last 20 years, and I listen to Jim's solo CDs on a regular basis. Actually I got his latest CD on my birthday, September 12, the day it was released. Thanks Jim for a wonderful evening. I can't say enough about you and your band, especially Anne. Keep up the good work and I look forward to your next show I can attend.

Jim's Pure Voice

We really enjoyed the opening act; Justin Rutledge was great. I'm sure he'll have great success. The Jim Cuddy Band was very entertaining and energetic. It looks like they really enjoy performing together. The band played for two hours, I was so happy to hear all the songs I wanted to. Jim has such a pure voice. It sounds better live. A very talented man. Would surely go to another of the bands performances. Loved it.

A Seasoned Pro and a Formidable New Talent

The audience at Prairieland Park, Saskatoon, was treated to a great show by Jim Cuddy and opening act Justin Rutledge on Saturday night. Cuddy broke out tunes from his new album and treated fans to a variety of his Blue Rodeo classics. Backed by an excellent band consisting of Basil Donovan, (bass) Colin Crips, (guitar) Joel Anderson, (drums) Bob Packwood, (keyboards) and Anne Lindsay, (violin). Cuddy was in fine vocal form throughout his two hour set. A highlight was the acoustic section in the middle of the show when he sang stripped down versions of a few of his own tunes plus one Neil Young cover, "Tell Me Why," accompanied by Justin Rutledge. Jim promised that the concert would have a jamboree feel to it and he doesn't disappoint. Each of his talented band members was featured prominently throughout the show, with one highlight being Anne Lindsay's scorching fiddle work on the Blue Rodeo classic "Five Days in May." Justin Rutledge opened the show accompanied by Basil Donovan, Bob Packwood, Blake Mannig (drums) and co-producer/guitarist David Baxter. The crowd gave them a warm response for an excellent set featuring songs from Rutledge's excellent new release The Devil On A Bench In Stanley Park. Overall a great night of music from a seasoned pro and a formidable new talent. Don't miss the chance to see this show.

Crystal Clear Voice

So totally awesome!!!! Jim was absolutely great. He's just the nicest guy and was very approachable. I love his new CD. I love the way he writes. His voice is so crystal clear and penetrating. There is no one better than Jim Cuddy. I hope that he comes to Regina next time but stays with a smaller venue like he did in Saskatoon. Jim you are the greatest!!!!

Hard to Pick a Favourite Song

Well, another show sure not to disappoint anyone! GREAT JCB performance last night in Saskatoon - and it was a packed house! The show was set up cabaret style (round tables with lanterns glowing on them and dimmed lights - very intimate), with a dance floor right in front of the stage, so naturally Jim invited people up to dance from the get-go, and we did!! The set list was similar to the Winnipeg show the previous evening, and Justin R. joined them for a few songs (he's fantastic, by the way!) Can't say enough about Anne Lindsay either - wow - she rocks! They all had great energy and really connected with the audience...what more could you ask for? Some of my favs were "Countrywide Soul," "Married Again," "Trust Yourself" (haven't heard that in awhile!), and "Stagger In"....but, it's really hard to pick, because they were all so good!!! They are all such talented musicians - they make it look so easy! Anyway, the whole show was just stellar! Nice merchandise too... To anyone attending upcoming shows - you are in for a real treat! Don't miss them when they are in your area. Thanks Jim and crew for another unforgettable evening! Hurry back! (...."Running Back to Saskatoon"....) We hope! :-)

An Audience That Came To Listen

Prairieland Park offered an unexpectedly warm, inviting atmosphere with lanterns softly glowing on white linen-covered tables - temporarily transforming its rather utilitarian appearance. Justin Rutledge opened the show and quickly won over the audience with his quiet, unassuming manner, youthful voice and sophisticated lyrics, which are encouraging in these trying times of "just-ins." Smiling and dancing, Jim Cuddy came out with his band to warm applause. People immediately gravitated forward as "Second Son" began; most never sitting down again. There was a pleasing balance of songs from both the new CD and "All in Time" plus a liberal sprinkling of Blue Rodeo classics. This was an audience that came to listen; those that had come up to dance were now standing quietly, absorbing the music. Highlights included Jim and Justin doing "Bad Timing" and "Five Days in May" in which Anne Lindsay cut loose, whirling across the stage, her motions a blur. As Jim walked over to the piano an anticipatory hush fell over the audience. The haunting strains of "Pull Me Through" filled the room - the emotional poignancy of the song touching a chord in everyone. The second last song was "The Light that Guides You Home" - we could almost hear "our light" singing to bring us home. (For the first several listens to the new CD, our dog howled along to every track!) In true Canadian style, Jim thanked us for spending our Saturday evening with them - when in fact we were the ones who felt enriched by the experience. Keep the Dream Dreaming On!

Hey Jim, it's the morning after the show here in Saskatoon. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I have loved all your shows over the years both with Blue Rodeo and on your own, but this one was so intimate and personal. You and your band mates are some of the finest musicians I have ever heard and don't even get me going on Anne and her fiddle. Now that girl can play. I had not heard the album and bought it after the concert. What a gem it is. I love your voice and in my opinion that new single "Pull Me Through" is a number one hit. You cannot listen to that song and not be moved in some way. As I listened to you play it I watched men and women all around me holding back tears. I hope that song serves you well. You're a great talent. Thanks for signing my CD and thanks for a great evening. It is one that will not be forgotten.

Discovered a New Talent

The venue was a perfect setting to showcase Blue Rodeo front man Jim Cuddy's brilliant songwriting and sentilating melodies. Not being assured a seat (general admission), I raced to Prairieland Park in an effort to obtain just the perfect seating assignment to enjoy what I was positive would be a memorable evening filled with old/new favourites. Having been a fan of Blue Rodeo for over 20 years - I expected as much (we are a loyal bunch)- as others too rushed to find linen clad tables complete with kerosene lamps adding a touch of class to an already first rate musical environment.

The crowd was treated to Justin Rutledge as Mr. Cuddy's opening act. He wasn't half-way through his set before I left running to the merch counter to grab his record. Haunting lyrics, amazing voice, and an unmistakable Blue Rodeo influence= a brand new era in clever song-writing, and a new Canadian alternative to what's available on most 'top 40 stations.' His record is one that won't be leaving my changer anytime soon.

Mr Cuddy was greeted to a very warm, and receptive Saskatoon crowd. He began his set with "Second Son," much to the anxious crowd's approval. It took very little time before feet began making there way to the dance floor and most were enjoying a very rare opportunity to move and sing along to their favourite artist, no less than 20 feet away. It is no secret why Jim Cuddy fans remain as loyal as they do - for two straight hours Jim's band kept most memorized. Violinist Anne Lindsay dropped jaws during her "5 days" solo- simply amazing! It is no surprise that the Jim Cuddy Band is comprised of Canada's most wonderful talent (would you expect anything less from its greatest songwriter/story-teller?). The crowed swayed back and fourth with friends, family, and partners two-stepped when the music dictated, and threw a hand in the air when Colin Cripps let 'er rip during his many spotlights. All and all (by far) the best show I've been too in a very long time. Although I wasn't able to meet Jim - I was able to shake hands with Jeremy Rutledge, and get a set list (yah, that's right the one right under Jims foot at the front of the stage). Thanks for the memories!

Tons of Energy

My husband and I attended the Winnipeg show and both came away incredibly impressed with not only the incredible songs Jim keeps on writing/singing year after year but also with the length of the concert. Jim and his band were on stage for two hours and were as full of energy at the end as they were at the beginning. We are huge fans of anything Jim does, however, we loved the concert numbers "Pull Me Through" that started with Jim singing solo and playing keyboard -- the band slowly joined in and it was incredible. The acoustics in the Pantages really worked well with that song. We also were touched and really 'wowed' by "What She Said." We bought a number of t-shirts and CDs for Christmas gifts (and one for us too of course) at the show and Jim was kind enough to autograph them for us. My brother will be the recipient of one of the CDs -- he is a huge fan who has moved to the UK so we keep him plugged in. He is such a big fan that his "reading" at his wedding was from one of Jim's songs :) Jim, thanks again for a fabulous show. The Canadian music scene is a MUCH better place with your contributions -- keep on keeping on.

I Thought I Was Going To Cry...

Man what a night....as if a two-hour show wasn't enough, I got to meet one of my greatest influences...Mr. Cuddy himself, and he signed my harmonica to boot. Great Mix of Songs

What better to warm up a cold and windy November night than Jim Cuddy and friends! After traversing the ice covered sidewalks, fans were warmed to the heart, not only by Jim's sweet vocals, but also by the meaningful stories behind the new songs. As well, Jim handled the "go Bombers" hecklers with style and grace! The whole band was very lively and enthusiastic, especially Anne Lindsay, who's energetic playing landed her belt on the stage floor! Or was that Jim's special powers... And there was a great mix of new songs, old songs and BR songs - some of the rarest played I might add. It was a beautiful sight and sound to hear Jim so aglow with the new tracks-so get to know and love them, as they will grow on you, especially if you are lucky enough to attend any more of his performances!! A special nod to the opening act -Justin Rutledge and band - not just to get the show rolling but joining in on the fun! And Thanks to Jim for showing some love to the fans after the show-always a down to earth gentleman!

Great Seats

I caught your show last night. I have seen you in concert many times over the years and have enjoyed each one. This was definitely the best performance I have ever seen. It was a combination of things, the theatre which makes for amazing atmosphere and this last album is ridiculously good. And I finally got good seats, I'm short, and I usually end up sitting behind someone who's 6 ft 6 or has huge hair but not this time, hooray. A True Canadian Icon

Jim truly brought a uniquely energizing show to TBay last night. Engaging the audience throughout the whole show with stories and jokes created an intimate atmosphere that is impossible to find these days. The stage almost became a playground for Jim and the band, cutting loose into solos and extended jams. Jim did a great job of delivering a very diverse set list to the audience - running through some of the rarer Blue Rodeo tracks, including the self-admittedly never performed "Truscott" as a closer; diving into a sweet Neil Young cover and incorporating Justin Rutledge and his band into the performance. A spontaneous performance by Blue Rodeo's bassist Basil Donovan added another unique touch to a perfect evening. Jim even stuck around at the end of the show to meet a few of the fans gathered at the front of the stage. A true Canadian icon in the music industry and a must see for you lucky ones west of us.

Absolutely breathtaking!! There really are no words to describe the experience!! The purity of your voice is amazing and your interaction with the crowd so easy!! My 19 year-old daughter and I sat in the front row and we were completely taken away into your world! You brought us to our feet and to tears all in one night! A Rare Treat

Wow...what a wonderful evening seeing and hearing Jim Cuddy sing again live...When I first heard "Pull Me Through" on the radio I went to HMV and asked for the newest Blue Rodeo CD...not available was the answer, so I came home and did a little Google search and found Jim was doing a solo album...due out September 12..bought it right away and found the insert that told the tour dates..Thunder Bay....as soon as the tickets went up I got mine..so front row...yaaaaaa...watching Anne, Basil and the rest of the crew put their heart into tonight's performance was so inspiring.....Have a safe and enjoying tour...and Thunder Bay was given a rare treat tonight...glad I got to enjoy and now savour it......

Always A Great Show

Jim's concert tonight was to say the least awesome. After listening to the new CD for the past week, all the new songs were even better live. Jim never disappoints. He is witty and interacts with the audience. Amazing show, never a disappointment, when seeing Jim with his own band or with Blue Rodeo.

Great Time at a Great Venue

It's nice to have you back to your old self Jim. We have to say that the last time we saw you and Blue Rodeo was last summer in Toronto and we have to admit, we were a little disappointed in the show at the Amphitheatre. Little did we know at the time you had problems with your voice. We noticed at the time you were drinking a lot of water and chewing gum. There was also the fact that I think you only performed a few songs. Greg sang the majority of the concert. Nothing against Greg but we think you are the "heart and soul" of the band. A stellar performance last night Jim. You sounded great. The entire evening was great. Justin Rutledge was a wonderful opening act. Great up and comer. Listening to his CD as I type this. Anne on her fiddle, Basil on the bass and the entire Cuddy Band were amazing. Nice to hear some "Blue Tunes" along with Jim originals. Had a great time at a great venue. You really seem to enjoy playing at the Sanderson Centre here in Brantford. Can't wait for your next visit. Dave, Kelly, David and Cara.

A Very Intimate Show

The show was one of the best yet! I have been to see Blue Rodeo every year since 1988, as well as Jim's first solo tour in 2004. I can say that I enjoyed them all but seeing The Jim Cuddy Band is the best! It definitely is more intimate...last night's show was as usual very enjoyable. Anyone waiting to see the show in their town will certainly be happy with the performance. As usual, Jim tells his little stories that are always delightful. He is full of energy and his voice is like soulfood to me! Jim did a lot of songs from the new CD, which is fantastic, as well as the first CD and a few Blue Rodeo songs added in as a bonus. The Neil Young solo with Justin Rutledge was just beautiful. Justin Rutledge is a great opener for Jim. I had never heard of him but will definitely be listening for him now...thanks to Jim.. Anyone wondering if they should catch the tour, don't wait...just go you won't regret it...

Great Opening Act

The show last night was incredible. The band was again very tight as they always are. Anne Lindsay adds so much to the music. "Five Days in May" is almost better than with Blue Rodeo, almost. The opening guy was a surprise. I actually bought his album. Cuddy in my mind has one of the best voices in Canadian music. I can listen to him forever. Thanks Jim for carrying on. I am going to try and see the show when it hits Toronto.

You're in for a Treat

We started the night out with Justin Rutledge who was, as always, very enjoyable to listen to. His set seemed short but let's face it...we were all here to see The Jim Cuddy Band play the opening night show to their tour! The band took the stage at 9:00pm on the nose and Jim was in great spirits, telling us he hoped we had nowhere to be for the next long while since he planned on playing for us. Perfect! He started off with "Second Son" and the energy was high from the start. Jim was very talkative that night and he was giving us a little bit of background on a lot of his songs, which is always nice to hear how songs came to be. "Whistler" was next and he explained it was written about "Whistler" the way it used to be in the '70s.

Anne Lindsay was incredible and let me say she was hard to take pictures of because she was always moving around the stage while she played. Next we heard "All I Need" off his new album. What a great song indeed. I think Anne posted on the Blue Rodeo website that this song was all she needed to hear (well done Anne). A funny little comment by Jim after Anne finished her fiddle solo. As she was playing her solo, she was dancing across the stage towards him and he was pretending to back up away from her. He said, "That bow moving scares the crap out of me!" Cute!

Then we got to hear Bob Packwood's talents with "Married Again." Great, fun song. Jim sang it alone since Kathleen Edwards was not here to help him along. Next Jim explained that the next song was about a close friend of his going through a difficult time in his life with the birth of his child who was very ill. He assured us that it turned out fine but that none of us as parents ever want to feel that way. He played "What She Said. We were treated next to 'Till I Am Myself Again which Colin Cripps played the intro to beautifully. The next Blue Rodeo song Jim played was done in a very country manner and it was fabulous! We got to hear "I Could Never Be That Man" in a unique way and it came off great. Jim then invited Justin Rutledge back on stage to perform a song of his own that Jim sang on. Jim made a joke about Now Magazine voting Justin as the best singer/songwriter and if he had known that he wouldn't have sung on his album! They sang "I'm Gonna Die One Sunny Day." Justin stayed on stage and the band sat down for an acoustic set of: "Bad Timing," "Falling" and "Tell Me Why" by Neil Young. Nicely done.

Next was the favourite "Five Days In May" and Anne was amazing on the fiddle! She never stopped moving and the emotions she showed through her playing was awe-inspiring. She received and deserved a big round of applause for her solo. Next Jim explained that the next song was a criticism of George Bush. He told us that his mother told him he shouldn't mock the President so the song was not mocking...it was criticising! He played "One Fine Day." Then he told us he was embarrassed he had written the next song that was about trying to substitute one woman for another and he and Colin played "I'll Make Believe That She's You" from All In Time. Great song. Next came one of the songs I'm sure we were all waiting for...Jim sat down at the piano and played "Pull Me Through" that he had written about his aunt passing away this past summer. It was a beautiful tribute to her. Another song from his new album, "Countrywide Soul" was wonderful. And next a Blue Rodeo song that always gets people moving, and tonight was no exception, "It Could Happen To You." Then he played the title track off his new album, The Light That Guides You Home. He ended his set with a great rendition of "Trust Yourself" which got him a standing ovation.

He left the stage for a few minutes to come back to my husband yelling out, "Draggin' On" only to have Jim say, "Do you think I'm in the business to do what people tell me? I will play what I want to play." after which he laughed. He then sang "Do Right Woman" with lovely backing vocals from Anne and Colin. He ended his night with the last song off his new album, "Stagger In." The song rocked the house and had everyone standing on their feet. It was a fantastic show with Jim's voice sounding perfect, the energy was high and the new songs went over beautifully. Overall, an amazing opening to his cross Canada tour. So for anyone who has tickets to see him, you're in for a treat and for those of you on the fence about whether or not to attend....go! You will regret it if you miss this show.

Another Great Show

I have seen Jim Cuddy live before and last evening was exactly what I expected, a great show. I have seen Blue Rodeo as well and of course they are great all together. but I have to say it's a bit more intimate with just the Jim Cuddy band. The fiddle player was great and his opening act was very entertaining as well, I believe his name was Justin Rutledge. I enjoyed the show so much that I am going again in November to Kingston to see it again.
