    Small Miracles CD review

Here's the first review I've seen so far from Small Miracles.  It's from JAM Music:

Thanx, Donna, & I guess that puts all speculation to rest, over in that other thread, about who wrote which song! YesCool

I've been reading his CD reviews for years and probably agree with 95% of them. Hell, I've even bought an album or two sound unheard based on his reviews. So, it sounds like Small Miracles is going to be another good album!

When will that CD get here already. I am so glad I pre-ordered the thing.

Hmm, I didn't do horrendously on the guessing front...some of those titles are tricky though! Of course, the annoying thing is, my original guess for the title track was Jim, but then I thought "Naaah, it'll be a Greg song. It's ALWAYS a Greg song that titles the album." That is why you do not second-guess yourself. Stick out tongue

Oh well, no matter who wrote them, they all sound most excellent. Can't wait till next Tuesday. Fortunately, I have the Sadies' new album to tide me over a bit until then.

Lynn Saxberg of the Ottawa Citizen has written an article about the new album, and Greg's work on it in particular. It's a great article, and can be found here:

The print edition also has an excellent picture of Greg, which I will scan and upload this afternoon because it is that awesome. Big Smile

Nice article RP.  I would just like to point out that there is a second page to that article in case anyone misses it.

    Joanne:

I liked the first and the third articles but I thought the second was sort of a cop-out as far as critical commentary goes.  The third though - haha - Flintstones theme park - oh to have been there.Big Smile!

Thanks for all the reviews guys.  I haven't had a chance to read them yet but I will.  Thanks again.Yes

Greg Keelor met Jim Cuddy and then I met you people. Serendipity is a marvellous thing.

And here's the one from Eye Magazine:

    http://www.eyeweekly.com/eye/issue/issue_09.20.07/music/ondisc_7.php

    On Disc

    BLUE RODEO ***

    Small Miracles
    WEA

“I don't understand it,” a friend mused as Blue Rodeo's new record blasted from the car stereo. “What inspires this band to keep going after all these years?” Though reductive, the question is inevitable and, for an idiosyncratic country-pop institution, the answer is tricky. On Small Miracles, Blue Rodeo sound whip-smart, balancing pleasant rockers with sheen and meaningful balladry showcasing Greg Keelor's hazy imagination and Jim Cuddy's earnest heart. That said, there's laziness in “So Far Away,” in which Keelor quotes Bob Dylan and Mark Knopfler before the band delves into a mid-period Beatles jam. He's gutsier on the vital, Alejandro Escovedo-inspired “Black Ribbon.” Cuddy lets his hair down long on the pandering toe tapper, “Summer Girls,” but does better elsewhere (i.e., “3 Hours Away”). Blue Rodeo still chase after perfect songs with the right tools, and even their foiled attempts have their charms.

That would be awesome! My mum works in Toronto and goes through Union as part of her commute...wonder if I should tell her about this or just let her find out for herself. Wink

    Re: Small Miracles CD review

This really is predominantly "easy listening" - more than I would have hoped for...

Edit:  This was intended for the other thread New cd - Small Miracles, where Brown-Eyed-Dog posted the link to listen to the full songs; thanks B-E-D

p.s. Also, I'm not putting down the album - this is just one characteristic I noticed while listening..
