Hey everyone, I decided that I was going to post a thing on different fan sites to get votes for what people think are the top 5 new albums of '07. So if anyones got a few albums they think stands out it'd be great if you posted their names and in a week or two I'll put together all the different 'votes' and put the name of the 5 most mentioned. Here's what I think 1. Billy Talent II-(Billy Talent) I think this CD has great layering, melodies, lyrics and music, usually I'd say that three singers is over-kill and stupid but these guys have shown different. 2. Minutes to Midnight-(Linkin Park) I like this CD because (like Billy Talent) they have neat layerings and melodies. The CD has a good mix of exciting (hyper) style songs-or as I say 'racing songs' and then a few slower emotion sturring songs (such as Valentine's Day). 3. One-X-(Three Days Grace) I find this CD's lyrics aren't as relate-able as others. There stuff is great racing music and great guitar for beginners (saying that out of experiance). their song Never Too Late is great, and the music video really highlights the songs meaning. (Their only good music video...) 4. All the Right Reasons-(Nickelback) I think Nickelback is good at pointing out 'peoples lives', the song Photograph is great if you're moving. 5. Famous Last Words-(Hedley) In all truth I only added this album 'cause I couldn't think of another one... I don't even own it. I know these albums are different then what people seem to like on this website but I figure it's worth a try to see if anyone posts as a 'just for fun' sorta thing.

It is unfortunate it that the Hedley name made it on this website because Blue Rodeo is all about beautiful music and respect. I personally find it insulting because I have had two runs in with him (the band). I am a girl and seen him (the band) twice and only because they were opening acts. In Hedleys mind, us girls are nothing but bitches to *** and get under their thumbs. He has come out in the crounds in concerts after they have finished playing and has sticked out his ugly *** to us while the other band was trying to play. He obviously does not have any respect for other artists. I cannot stand this band and what it stands for. He is complete *** and extremely insulting. They are surely not in for music. I have kept quiet of this for a long time, but my friends and I seen this post and could not let this go by. This is a Blue Rodeo web site and that means alot to us. This is a web site of music and respect!!!! Merry Chritmas to all Rita

Rofl! When I put this post up I believe that I put "Best ALBUMS of the year". I really wouldn't want to actually meet hardly anyone on my list! As a matter of fact the only group on there that I respect as 'people' are Billy Talent. I've never met Hedley and at this point I'm kinda hoping that I never do, even people who like their music seem to think the band members suck. And btw it would be nice if you typed what your favourite albums are of this year cause that's why I posted this in the first place... yBS Merry Christmas!

Well, since you asked, here are my top 5 albums of 2007: 1. Blue Rodeo - "Small Miracles" - Best album the guys have released since "Tremolo", hands down. A fine return to form for the guys - can't wait for the tour! 2. Crowded House - "Time on Earth" - My second-favorite band next to Blue Rodeo made their return in 2007 with their first studio album in 13 years. Dedicated to the late Paul Hester (their founding drummer) , most of the songs are centred around the emotions of loss - something I experienced a great deal of in 2007, unfortunately. 3. Kristin Sweetland - "Own Sweet Time" - Very solid follow-up to her debut, "Root, Heart & Crown". As on her debut album, once again produced by Ken Whiteley Kristin's beautiful guitar playing and hauntingly poetic lyrics, along with the musical talents of guests Anne Lindsay, Stephen Fearing, and Suzie Vinnick, add up to another outstanding effort from London, ON's indie darling Kristin. 4. Oh Susanna - "Short Stories" - I loved this record - my favorite of Suzie Ungerleider's efforts since "Sleepy Little Sailor". Great songwriting, beautiful imagery...definitely not to be missed! 5. Tegan and Sara - "The Con" - Once again, the Quin sisters deliver an infectious collection of songs. I dare you to listen to this without smiling - it's impossible!
~ ...and all the demons are saints, and the saints I'll never trust...~ Blue Rodeo - "Graveyard" ~...Had a dream where everybody looked like someone else, and the farthest I could get from was the closest to myself...~ Men Without Hats - "Sideways"

If you don't own it you should get it. My daughter has it & it is good. I think Hedley put out 2 good Cd's. I like this one more then their 1st.

Thanks for the response so far! So far our radio doesn't play very much new stuff, for instance I didn't know Jimmy Rankin came up with a new cd... I didn't know he was still around til I came on here! So I'm hoping that by doing this I'll get a few names of other bands that are good that I don't know about. I have to re-do my list a bit 'cause I suddenly realized that two of the cd's on there are from last year! (One-X and Billy Talent II). So here it is now... lol 1. Minutes to Midnight-Linkin Park 2.All the Right Reasons-Nickelback 3. Famous Last Words-Hedley 4. Them vrs. You vrs. Me-Finger Eleven 5.The Light that Guides You Home-Jim Cuddy (forgot that's from this year).

Ooohhh hard to pick five but here's my list.... 1. Small Miracles (Blue Rodeo) - I truely believe that this in my opinion is the best album since Outskirts 2. Live at Massey Hall 1971 (Neil Young) - I know it was recorded in '71 but released this year....simply amazing. 3. Them vs You vs Me (Finger Eleven) - gotta agree with you on this one YaBuluuShitani, these guys are great 4. The Light That Guides You Home (Jim Cuddy) - what can I say...the man is the devine ruler or my musicial universe. He could do an album of burping and I'd buy it. Seriously though, this album is wonderful. He just gets better and better. 5. Long Road Out of Eden (The Eagles) - the first studio album in 28 years and they sound every bit as good as they ever have. The second disc is a little too slow for my taste but the first one makes up for it.

The version of All the Right Reasons that I have is from '07 'cause it came with behind the scenes and music videos and all that other fun stuff.. lol. I'm just going to leave it on there 'cause I've got nothing else to replace it with right now... Might think of something later. (it's not even near the top of the list anyways...). And for Jim Cuddy's album, everyone seems to like putting it in this years stuff and I think it got realised pretty close but I can't remember... So I'll just let that one qualify. The Billy Talent board just started working again so we'll see where the list goes now.

Oh, praise Jesus! I've finally hit middle age. Prior to your listing them yBS, I had never heard of Billy Talent, Three Days Grace, and Hedley. Of course being the inquisitive music fan that I am, I had to Google and Wikipedia all three. Nice to know that they are Canadians. I listened to some Billy Talent and sure 'nuff, it is the same crap that those young pimply faced sales persons play every time I go into F.Y.E. record store here and what I heard every time I went into Tower Records. Speed metal, agression music, industrial, whatever you call it, that type of hard-core post punk emo "racing" style noise is not what I call music. That these bands won a ton of Junos and were big on Canadian idol or whatever doesn't impress me. I can't believe that after 35 years I am echoing the words of my parents when they said to me as I was playing The Beatles, Bob Dylan and particularly The Rolling Stones to "turn that crappy noise down". Of course I did lower the volume a notch, but I still played 'em and sang along to 'em because they were my generation's bands and they were something that I could tangibly focus on that was not of my parent's world...a world that I had to rebel against. You, yBS have to rebel against your parent's world...that being the world that I and my generation of aging Baby Boomers have handed to you as messed up as it is, and you choose to grab onto the bands that emit the most obnoxious noises (to my aging ears anyway) so that I will hear your rebellion lound and clear. I'm glad you can get the opportunity to rebel as I once did and as we all must in the rite of passages and growth from teenager to adult. Go ahead and enjoy your Billy Talent, Nickelback, etc. for you are young but once. A word of advice from this old fogey though. I have probably listened more music of so many different bands and styles for much longer a period of time than you have, and what impresses me most is whether a musician has mastery of his/her instrument of choice (guitar, drums, trumpet, organ, saxophone) and whether that musician has something/anything to say. That's why I like Blue Rodeo. They are all skilled musicians and they have something to say. They may not be the most popular band in the world, and they are virtually unknown in the United States, but they can make music that doesn't make me want to run screaming away from my stereo to find the nearest toilet to throw up in. But you wanna know something? We old fogeys could raunch it up in our younger years as well and I have two suggestions for you if you are serious about expanding your mind and experiencing different sounds. Listen to "Raw Power" by Iggy Pop and the Stooges very loud and let me know what you think. Hear where Nickelback and Billy Talent may have gotten some of their inspiration? And if you really want to hear something that will completely blow your mind, seek out and play from start to finish all in one sitting, "Trout Mask Replica" by Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band. If you can dig the good Captain (Don Van Vliet), then I think there just might be some hope for you and you youngsters after all! Happy or unhappy listening as the case may be...
