What are your latest DVD purchases??

I kind of splurged today while I was at Walmart picking up socks and underwear.  haha!  I hate Walmart.  Every time I go in there to buy something specific, I end up getting all this other stuff that I hadn't planned on getting.

So anyway, I bought this awesome Paul McCartney DVD.  It's called "The McCartney Years".  I watched some of it this afternoon and was really impressed with the sound and content.  I loved hearing the "Unplugged" stuff in 5.1 surround sound.  There were also many videos I had never seen before which was a treat... and some videos I remember loving as a kid.  I highly recommend this one to you all.  Here's a little write up about it:

Four decades' worth of rare footage, live performance and music videos have been rounded up for "The McCartney Years," a three-DVD set due Nov. 13 via MPL/Rhino Entertainment. McCartney has also recorded new commentary for the 40-plus videos, which can be viewed in chronological order or via his own custom playlists.

The first two discs comprise the videos, beginning with 1970's "Maybe I'm Amazed" and running through 2005's "Fine Line." Bonus features on these discs include a "Band on the Run" promo film and a documentary on the making of McCartney's 2005 album "Chaos and Creation in the Backyard."

The third disc features snippets from "Rockshow," filmed on the 1976 Wings tour, a new edit of McCartney's 1991 appearance on MTV's "Unplugged" and 11 songs from his 2004 headlining set at the U.K.'s Glastonbury Festival. The live footage also boasts new commentary from McCartney.

Here is the track list for "The McCartney Years":

    Disc one:

    "Tug Of War"
    "Say Say Say"
    "Silly Love Songs"
    "Band On The Run"
    "Maybe I'm Amazed"
    "Heart Of The Country"
    "Mamunia"
    "With A Little Luck"
    "Goodnight Tonight"
    "Waterfalls"
    "My Love"
    "C-Moon"
    "Baby's Request"
    "Hi Hi Hi"
    "Ebony And Ivory"
    "Take It Away"
    "Mull Of Kintyre"
    "Helen Wheels"
    "I've Had Enough"
    "Coming Up"
    "Wonderful Christmastime"

    Disc two:

    "Pipes Of Peace"
    "My Brave Face"
    "Beautiful Night"
    "Fine Line"
    "No More Lonely Nights"
    "This One"
    "Little Willow"
    "Pretty Little Head"
    "Birthday"
    "Hope Of Deliverance"
    "Once Upon A Long Ago"
    "All My Trials"
    "Brown-Eyed Handsome Man"
    "Press"
    "No Other Baby"
    "Off The Ground"
    "Biker Like An Icon"
    "Spies Like Us"
    "Put It There"
    "Figure Of Eight"
    "C'Mon People"

    Disc three:

    From "Rockshow":
    "Venus And Mars"
    "Rock Show"
    "Jet"
    "Maybe I'm Amazed"
    "Lady Madonna"
"Listen To What The Man Said"
    "Bluebird"

    From "MTV Unplugged":
    "I Lost My Little Girl"
    "Every Night"
    "And I Love Her"
    "That Would Be Somethin"

    From Glastonbury 2004:
    "Jet"
    "Flaming Pie"
    "Let Me Roll It"
    "Blackbird"
    "Band On The Run"
    "Back In The USSR"
    "Live And Let Die"
    "Hey Jude"
    "Yesterday"
    "Helter Skelter"
"Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band"

I also got a Johnny Cash DVD.   This one is called "The Best of the Johnny Cash Show, 1969-1971".  They were playing it on a big screen TV at Walmart and it caught my attention... so I looked at the box and looked at the track listing and had to have it.  It's got Neil Young, Bob Dylan, CCR, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Joni Mitchell, Derick and the Dominos, just to name a few.  Awesome stuff!

Another great DVD I had the pleasure of seeing is Eric Clapton's "Crossroads 2007".  My friend lent it to me and I didn't want to give it back!  I guess I'm going to have to buy myself my own copy now.  My favourite song on the entire DVD is "Tulsa Town" featuring Sheryl Crow, Vince Gill, Eric Clapton and I forget the other guy's name... but he was awesome too.  If you like guitar rock, you definitely need to get this DVD.

A couple of others I should mention are some that I picked up when I was in Las Vegas during Christmas Break.  I got "Sin City - A Tribute to Gram Parsons" (lots of amazing guest musicians), and a Billy Joel box set that includes a live DVD from his "River of Dreams" tour.  I don't know if I've ever mentioned here what a HUGE Billy Joel fan I am... I've been in love with him since I was 10 years old... and oh my god, watching this DVD reminded me why I love him so much.  I soooooooooo want to see him live someday.  I was almost tempted to buy a plane ticket to go see him in Milwaukee, of all places, on March 2nd.  haha!

So anyway, I guess I'm rambling on a bit here.  I'll leave the floor open to you guys now.  What DVD's have you purchased lately??

Oh, yeah. Well, if the other ladies are OK with it, you can tear up the agreement. You're the only one that looks bad in those videos anyway! Stick out tongue

Do you, by any chance, like Waylon Jennings Lori??  haha!  I forgot to mention that the Johnny Cash DVD has one song with Waylong Jennings.  They sing "Brown Eyed Handsome Man" together.  Waylon looked so young!!

Haha all right I'll agree with you on that one.  Though I think they should have focused more on the whole Band, not just Robbie.

Re: What are your latest DVD purchases??

The other day I bought the dvd and soundtrack to the movie "Once", on the recommendation of a friend of mine who really enjoyed the movie and thought I'd enjoy it as well. It's an Irish film about street musician and vacuum repair man living in Dublin with a broken heart, who by chance meets this Czech woman who enjoys his music and has some musical talent of her own. The two bond over the music they write together. Later he finds out she has a young daughter, and a husband back in the Czech Republic who stayed behind there when things didn't work out with them; she moved to Dublin with her daughter and her widowed mother. It's a beautiful story of two lost souls who, through music and their unexpected friendship, find hope again. The performances are incredible considering neither stars Glen Hansard or Marketa Irglova are trained actors (Glen's only previous film work was in "The Commitments" - another film staring an ensemble of musicians turned actors) and the music is beautiful - it won an Oscar for best original song for the duo's hit "Falling Slowly". If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it. I've already watched it twice and I can't get enough of it!

    HI All,

The Last Waltz is a documentary  with Martin Scoresey interviewing the members of the BAND!!!

It is excellent and loads of great music. Iam a huge fan of Robbie Robertson (he has always reminded me of Jim Cuddy)  I have heard that Robbie was born in Six Nations ON and Rick Danko  was from Port Dover ON,,,(around my neck of the woods)

My recent CD purchased is the New Sadies.....very good.

    Michele....Simcoe ON
