I was channel surfing (bad habit)on F.M. and realized that most of the music this certain day,was soooo sad and depressing. It started me to thinking of "what songs do I usually cry from".See...there I am talking to myself again! Anyways...theres three that instantly pop into my head. Blue Rodeo's..."Falling Down Blue"...Greg Keelor's..."I Will Follow"...and Seals and Crofts..."Summer Breeze".All of these songs, I love dearly and still play them all the time, knowing full well what the outcome will be. Maybe they're my therapy songs and I'm only just now realizing it. Anyone else do this??? Oh ya...and Bagpipes at parades turn me into a blubbering mess! What's with that????

Ok. I have to confess there is one song that reduces me to tears, every single time I hear it. It's by Bonnie Raitt and it's called "I can't make you love me". I won't explain it. Just download it and listen to it. If you ever been in a one-sided (lengthy) relationship, it will get to you.

I can't believe how many of these already mentioned that make me bawl!I was just listening to Jann's...Good Mother, and yes I was standing at my sink crying...again! Laluke...I'm just myself recovering from a one sided relationship,that lasted 5 long years, and I know all about, "I Can't Make You Love Me". And Garth's "The Dance" was a killer! Painfully sad,but I too love these ones.God I'm an emotional mess!

Wing Beneath My Wings by Bette Midler. It was the last movie my sister saw before she died. We were very close but definitely opposites in personality. I cry every time I hear it. Yesterday was her birthday and she would have been 37 years old.
Finger lakes by Jim makes me cry. Although I have heard the story behind the song a few times I still think of my own connections when I hear it. My father was always there for us and the line "I will always come if you need me" always makes me cry. He followed by sister from the funeral home to the cementary (since they couldn't bury her in the winter). He said he was always there for her so he wanted to be there for her then too. I always think of that when I hear Fingerlakes.

I agree I also like the Dance by Garth Brooks for the story of life.

Nicky: I'm crying as I read your post. That line in Finger Lakes reminds me of my dear ol' Dad too. I wish you strength for your sister, and know that I'm thinking about you, and most likely always will whenever I hear Finger Lakes.

My sister died many years ago. Feb 14, 1989. Some days it feels like yesterday and others it feels like ages ago. My big regret is that she didn't get to meet my husband. She had a wicked sense of humour, as does my husband, and I'm sure they would have liked each other.

I have a very strong faith that those who have pass over, are always with us. She knows him and loves him too!

Just reading your post brought tears to my eyes as well, Nicky. Actually, it reminded me of the personal significance of today for me - it was three years ago today that my dear aunt Carol passed away after a year long battle with cancer. Just thinking of that one line in "Finger Lakes" - "In my hour of darkness, you will come to me" - my aunt Carol was there for me in my hour of darkness, when I was only seven years old and my family were involved in a serious car crash. My mom was hospitalized with severe head injuries (this after my mom had just survived her own battle with cancer) and was comatose for about a week, my brother was also hospitalized with a puncture wound to the side of his head and my dad was too busy trekking between North York General and St. Michael's Hospitals to be able to look after me, so my aunt and uncle took me in for a week to stay with them and my cousins. My aunt basically looked after me - I'll never forget what she did for me. On the day of her funeral, which also happened to be my 25th birthday, many years after she helped carry me through the darkest time of my life, it was my honour and privelige to help carry her one last time as one of her pall bearers.

Anyways, I just thought I'd share that with you guys. Thanks for listening.

The three songs that bring me to tears are all for patriotic reasons

The Change by Garth Brooks was written after the Federal Building was blown up in Oklahoma City. The words to that song just tear me up.

And the other two are Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning by Alan Jackson and Proud To Be An American by Lee Greenwood (I think). I just listen to the words and think back on what I was doing on 09/11 and I always get choked up and upset.
