How come Republicans are always trading one illegal thing for another?  This time it's house repairs traded for lobbying in the ANWR.

    For Canadians:  epost

Hey there Canadian folks:  perhaps you already receive your bills this way.  I recently received an e-mail from the WWF (that's the World Wildlife Fund, not the wrestlers), which said:  "Reduce greenhouse gases by signing up to receive your bills online.  It takes a lot less energy to run your computer while you check your mail than it does to cut down trees, transport them to the mill, turn them into paper and then get that paper to you."

I had not yet gotten around to signing up for epost (I am still working on my degree from the Procastination School of "I'll do it tomorrow"), but I will starting on August 1 (the first of the month is when I do my budgeting and pay bills).

How about anyone else?  Do you use epost?  What sort of experiences have you had?

I have paid most of my bills on line for a couple of years now, I always save copies of the bills and payments onto my external hardrive just in case there are any problems at a later date. I learnt this the hard way my computer went up in smoke and I have nothing backed up, its not a nice feeling to lose everything like that. SOOO now I am very careful about backing up.

Thanks for the tip, Unicorn.  I also pay my bills on-line, but I still receive the paper version.   Do you use epost to receive your bills?

I use epost for most personal bills some companies still aren't into it,  but do admit for the business I only pay my bills on line I still receive the paper copies, still it saves on stamps and return envelopes and every little helps.

If your telephone service provider is Bell Canada, you can create an account on their site and receive your bills online. You also have the option of NOT receiving paper bills. :)

    Converting gas-powered cars to electric

  • Switching his truck to an electric engine saved one man about $700 in four months
  • As gas prices rose, sales tripled for one conversion parts dealer
  • Some converters are fed up with spending money on gas, foreign oil
  • Others like the environmental bonus of going electric

Well, hurray for the Pope!  He is encouraging all Catholics to go green and he is setting the example.

Not to be a ***, but if oil prices keep falling and gas eventually catches up to the low oil prices and we see back to 1.35 a gallon or so....do you think that people will abandon a lot of these things and go back to being oil gluttons?

that's cool about the pope, I wish I had the money for windmills....we have almost a constant breeze and I think I could do really well with windmills.

Re: An Inconvenient Truth - A documentary starring your planet with voiceover and narration by Al Gore

Leave it to the great mind of Ron Sexsmith to write an upbeat yet profound song about global warming:

    One Last Round

    Wonder of wonders
    Our eyes behold
    This scaffold of stars
But look under for truth be told
    We're leaving a scar
    On everything we've found
And we're going into town for one last round
    One last round

    If all that glitters
    Is not gold
    Should our rainbow's end
Be just the winter cruel and cold
    Of our discontent
    My friends we're trouble bound
Yet we're going into town for one last round
    One last round
    One last round

And it's the children who have yet to come
Who'll have to pay our tab
What kind of world will we have left for them
The odds now will be stacked
    We've all the wisdom
    Our minds can hold
    But no common sense
All the live long day the joke
    Was at our own expense
    We've drained our bottles down
And we're going into town for one last round
    One last round
    One last round

Yes we're going into town for one last round
    One last round
    One last round

    "Over straight and crooked miles
Falling out of favour or embraced
    Wondering where was love...
    It hadn't happened yet"
    ~Ron Sexsmith~
