If that one brings you tears this one might leave you sobbing.

Re: What Song's Bring You To Tears?????????

Well, no song literally brings me to tears. But some songs are so touching like "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" by the Carter Family, "Bury Me Beneth The Weepin' Willow"
By Ricky Scaggs, "Pull Me Though" By Jim and "What She Said", "Falling Down Blue" and After The Rain.. And Theres Greg's " Dark Angle" And "Is It You".

I never actually cried to any of these, except when I listened to "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" after myNana died. And "Pull Me Through" for the same reason.

Re: What Song's Bring You To Tears?????????

A Change Is Gonna Come by Sam Cooke (Abkco Music, Inc., c. 1964)

As sung and adapted by Otis Redding

I was born by the river, oh my,
    In this little old tent.
    And just like this river,
    I've been running ever since.

It's been a long, long time coming,
But I know, but I know,
That a change has gotta come, now.
Oh yes it is, my oh my oh my oh my.

It's been too hard livin', oh my,
    And I'm afraid to die.
    I don't know what's up there,
    Beyond the sky.
It's been a long, long time coming,
But I know, but I know,
That a change has gotta come.
Oh yes it is, my oh my oh my.

I go to the movie and I go downtown,
But somebody keep telling me don't hang around.

    There's a time,
I will go to my brother, oh my.
    I would ask my brother,
Will you help me please, oh now oh now?
    He turned me down.
And then I asked my dear mother, oh my oh,
I said mother, I said mother,
    I'm down on my knees.

It's been time that I go,
    Lord it's too late.
    Very long, oh now oh,
Somehow I thought I was still able,
    To try to carry on.
It's been along, long time coming,
    But I know,
That a change is gonna come.

    Oh yes it is.
    Huh, just like I said.
I went to my little bitty brother, oh my, my little brother,
I asked my brother, brother help me please, oh now,
    He turned me down.
And then I go to my little mother, my dear mother, oh now, huh,
I said mother, I said mother I'm down on my knees.

But there was a time that I go,
Lord it's too late, too late.
So very long, oh my oh,
Somehow I thought I was still able,
    To try to carry on.
It's been a long long time coming,
But I know, but I know,
That change has gotta come, oh.
It's been so long, It's been so long
    A little too long,
But a change is gotta come.

So tired, so tired of suffering,
    Standing by myself.
    Have given up a home,
But a change has gotta come.
You know, you know that I know.
And I know that you know.
Honey, That a change is gonna come, oh now, oh my...

Re: What Song's Bring You To Tears?????????

The Everly Brothers have a few songs that have made me cry: "Ebony Eyes", "Even When I Hold It in My Hand (Hard Luck Story)" (an obscure one but severely depressing), a cover called "Put My Little Shoes Away" (about a child dying of some feverish sickness; I can't sing along to it, it's so sad), and a little gem called "And I'll Go", whose lyrics are below.

    And I'll Go
    performed by: The Everly Brothers
Appears on Heartaches and Harmonies (Disc 3)

Look at me, and tell me
You don't want me around anymore
    And I'll go
Tell me that I don't mean
Anything at all to you anymore
    And I'll go

If you want to say our love's not right
I'll turn away from you, run away from you
    Out of your life
'Cause I love you and I want you to be free
If I'm not the man you wanted me to be

Look at me, and tell me
You don't want me around anymore
    And I'll go
Look at me, and tell me
You don't want me around you anymore
All you've got to do is let me know
All you've got to do is tell me so
    And I'll go
    I'll go
    And I'll go
    I'll go

Re: What Song's Bring You To Tears?????????

Thank you for reminding me of The Everly Brothers, rabbitprincess! I've been listening to their "All Time Greatest Hits" and especially their groundbreaking 1968 country rock album "Roots". I can't say that I've ever (pun intended) been brought to tears by an Everly Brothers song...mostly I have found their music to be simply astonishing. They were the vocal inspiration for so many Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel songs, and for many other musicians (Grateful Dead & Byrds, etc) as well. Easily overlooked, but these guys recorded pure rock and roll genius classics.

And that Heartaches and Harmonies box set looks mighty tempting, but I don't have 75 bucks to spring for it at present! As a result of your mentioning them here I have been rediscovering their great music. Thanks again! Cool

    You're welcome, Peter! Smile

They have also released a SEVEN-disc boxed set of EB -- lots of rarities, multiple takes, and even some foreign-language and Christmas songs. If I didn't already have H&H, I'd be tempted to get it.

And it's nice to know other people who listen to EB...for the longest time I've been the only person I know who listens to them. Stick out tongue

Re: What Song's Bring You To Tears?????????

Ah, I saw that 7 disc set over at Amazon. Impressive...very impressive.

No, you are not alone in your fondness for the Everly Brothers music. I've long been delving into so-called roots rock/country music and I'm constantly amazed at how many musicians mention the Everlys' work in the 50's and early 60's as being so influential on their own "newer" roots music. Don and Phil are certainly not the sensation that they once were, but thankfully, their legacy of work is preserved on disc or record. As has been mentioned before, I find folks here at BR.com have have excellent taste in music so perhaps we digressed on this thread a little bit but if you haven't checked them out, I highly recommend early Everly Brothers, best represented in a concise greatest hits package called, "Cadence Classics: Their 20 Greatest Hits" on Rhino Records. You'll be amazed at how many of these tunes you recognize.Music

No, I haven't heard that. I guess each person can have memories sparked by certain songs that can bring up a lot of feelings. That's why music is so awesome!!!!

The one verse in Pull Me Through always gets me!

    This one...

"I hope you're traveling well now and there's stars over your head, and I hope the river carries you everywhere you said. Well I miss the way you look at me, the way you wear your hair, and I miss the conversations we left hanging in the air"

I do know that song, Josh.

Gee, Jenn, although I know the song, of course, reading that just now put a lump in my throat...made me think about how I'd feel if someone dear to me was gone from my life.

I've never actually cried because of a song but because of my mood before I listened to the song or a meaning behind it-though I do find these songs can change my emotions, there's 'Pull Me Through' by Jim Cuddy, 'Hymn to the Sea'-the Titanic theme song, 'Scarlet' by Brooke Fraser and 'Angel' by Sarah McLachlan.

"Each time you step forward you get burnt a lil bit" "She reads a book from across the street, waiting for someone that she'll never meet" "The lineup seems endless, underneath the salvation signs"

    Katiescarlet,

That song I think is one that brought me to tears right after my Nana died too(maybe it was "What she said) because thats what both are talking about in a manner of speaking. Got to Jim's My-Space. It has the storey to Pull Me Theough in the music player.
