    JoshDwyer:

Lil Ole Wine Drinker Me, is and very good song. Did he write it?

That song is as old as the hills. It was written in the late 60's by Hank Mills and D-i-c-k Confused Jennings. It's been covered by lots of artists... Mel Tillis, Dean Martin, Merle Haggard (my favorite cover!), Stonewall Jackson, and of course, Baz! Smile

I'm curious about that as well, Josh! I spoke with Baz about his CD last fall and he did tell me that there would be some covers of old country tunes, but he didn't mention whether or not there would be any songs written by him. I guess we'll have to wait and see or maybe someone who's already purchased the CD will post about it soon! Smile

I'm prayin' for rain in California
So the grapes can grow and they can make more wine
And I'm sittin' in a honky in Chicago
With a broken heart and a woman on my mind

I've asked the man behind the bar for the jukebox
And the music takes me back to Tennessee
When they ask who's the fool in the corner cryin'
I say, little ole wine drinker me

I came here last week from down in Nashville
'Cause my baby left for Florida on a train
I thought I'd get a job and just forget her
But in Chicago, a broken heart is still the same

I've asked the man behind the bar for the jukebox
And the music takes me back to Tennessee
When they ask who's the fool in the corner cryin'
I say, little ole wine drinker me

    Re: Bazil Donovan's cd

How very, very cool! I always grin when I hear Baz's bass meandering thru a song ... and I loved his version of "Little Ol Wine Drinker", too ... it would be really cool to hear his version of "Am I That Easy to Forget?".  It seems to be made for his voice, kind of like it was for Greg on "To Love Somebody". I remember a thread from back in the day talking about covers that seem best suited to either Jim or Keelor ... we'll have to include Baz in there, too!Cool

    Re: Bazil Donovan's cd

    Hi guys!

I pîcked up Bazil's cd, Matinee, at the Ottawa show. It was actually a bit funny. I went up to the merch table and said, "Do you have Bazil's cd?" and when the girl said yes, I said, "And it's 20 bucks, right?" She looked so surprised. She must have thought I was some crazy obsessed fan! lol

So she comes over with the cd and says, "Since you asked for it, can you tell me what it is because none of us know who he is." Well, my jaw just dropped. She was standing there telling me how they sold all kinds of stuff, BR merch and Cuff the Duke. They even had Melissa's cd, but they didn't know who Bazil was. (I enlightened them, of course!)

I just thought that was so weird because I had always assumed that the people at the merch table worked for or were at least fans of the band.

A few years ago we went to a Metallica concert at Scotiabank Place (then, the Corel Center) and a woman walked up to us as we were waiting outside and asked if we would like to help the band out. We of course said yes, and found ourselves inside collecting donations for a wildlife sanctuary. In exchange for donating, people got to enter a draw for back-stage passes. We each got one too, just for helping out. I don't know why, but I always assumed that's the way the merch tables are manned, also. Apparently not, eh? ;)

Back on topic: I really like the CD. There's a text on the inside cover fromm Bazil about how he got into country music, and the songs themselves are great. I like country music all right but I mostly used to listen to it when on long road trips. The country stations always seem to come in clearer out on the road... Anyway, I don't know many country songs, so this is a nice collection. I do like Little Ole Wine Drinker, Me and Streets of Baltimore as well. Great CD all around. Nice little bonus to have Stage Door on it as well. :o) Whoever gets a chance, pick it up at the next show! :)

Ok, you've all convinced me this is a must have ... is there anyway to get this CD other than at a concert?  (I checked the BR store, but didn't see it there.)

I picked it up at the concert BECAUSE I didn't remember seeing it in the store. It also isn't available anywhere else I could find. (I googled the cd) If you would like a copy, I would be happy to pick one up for you in Belleville and send it along via snail mail. :o)

Wow - thank you Eniko ... that is very kind of you to offer to do that.  The wait is gonna kill me, but what choice do I have :)

Do you know if I just need to enter an email address in my profile, so that you can PM an address of where to send you a cheque?  (I think a cheque is better than cash in the mail, and I'll include extra for the return postage.)

Thank you again!  If you ever need anything from Calgary, I'm your girl :)
