    Re: JUNO AWARDS

I don't think so AG but there may be quite a few people who read the board and would qualify. It would be interesting to hear exactly what the criteria are though.

Hmmmm too bad you have to be in the biz No but it does make sense.  Well I guess all we can do is keep our fingers crossed since there's no other way to help the ones we want to winSad

    Re: JUNO AWARDS

Saw this blurb in the Toronto Star today:

    http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/article/300786

Justin Rutledge, a Roots/Traditional Album (solo) nominee, suggested the category's name be changed to "the Bazil Donovan award, because (the Blue Rodeo bassist) played on four of the five albums nominated."

I knew Bazil played with a lot of different people, but wow!!

Funny but true isn't it?  Bazil is ever-talented and ever-popular.  Must have been born under a good sign.Smile

    Re: JUNO AWARDS

I suppose it would be nice if they won, but I really don't put much stock in any of these awards anymore because really, they're not given out based on talent. You can be sure of that.  When you see artists like Rascal Flatts, Avril Lavigne and Nelly Furtado taking home 4 and 5 awards over groups like Blue Rodeo and other WAY more talented artists, you know there's something horribly wrong with the picture.

    Re: JUNO AWARDS

Jim did win a Juno last year for "The Light That Guides You Home".  And also as Male Vocalist for "All in Time".  But it's been a while since Blue Rodeo has won a Juno as a group.  I remember when they won for Best Group three years in a row. Smile

    Re: JUNO AWARDS

Sometimes it does seem like these award shows make no sense when you see who has won it. But at least the groups we love are nominated and that alone is GOOD advertising and marketing so that's a plus in that department.

People who have not listened to BR in awhile will realize that the cd must be awesome and start listening again.

People who have never heard of The Sadies  or Justin Rutledge will be aware of their existence and that alone is GOOD for them and open peoples eyes to their awesome talent.

So though the awards might not serve as a "true" award at times, it's always GOOD to be mentioned to so many people who are watching or reading about them. Yes   Free AdvertisingBig Smile  BONUS

It would be interesting to find out if CD sales really do go up as a result of these shows.

    Re: JUNO AWARDS

I'd think that sales probably do go up.  Just like people will go out and see the movie that gets the Academy Award for Best Picture.   I know that as a result of seeing someone perform at an award show, I went out and bought their c.d. the next day, and they were not necessarily winners.

    Re: JUNO AWARDS

That hasn't been the case for me. I can't remember the last time I've had the patience to sit through an entire show and that goes for ALL of the awards shows. Between Rascal Flatts, Nelly Furtado and all those rappers, I've given up! LOL! I just get Dan to call me when my favorites come on!

I tend to agree with you Diane.  I have bought cds and/or checked out an artist's website because of seeing them on an award show.  Personally I can't sit through the US music award shows but I still try to catch the Junos & the East Coast Music Awards.  The Junos sucked last year but I'm not giving up yet.  I am glad to see they have a comedian hosting instead of a pretty female singer with no ability to host a show.Stick out tongue

Greg Keelor met Jim Cuddy and then I met you people. Serendipity is a marvellous thing.

    Re: JUNO AWARDS

I'll try to watch parts of the award shows, if not for the music, then at least for the fashionWink  However, I do like to catch the live performances and to see who are the winners in some categories, ESPECIALLY if I know that the bands I LOVE are nominated and you never know who the camera might catch Wink

You know they have that Juno Awards cd out every year and some people will buy that and when they realize that they like a particular group's music, they'll go out and get their cd, so I think it's a win win situation. Even though the awards might not be awarded to whom we believe rightfully deserve it, like I said, it's always a plus being nominated and getting your name out there.

I'll be hoping and praying that on April 6th, Blue Rodeo, The Sadies and Justin Rutledge do come home with something Yes   If they do, OMG, you'll hear me bouncing off the walls in timbucktwo------especially if The Sadies win, they sooooooooooo deserve to be recognizedYes

Seeing Russell Peters will be a treat to see. Seen him in TO at Massey Hall with the Just For Laughs tour and he was a hoot, so looking forward to watching him host. Maybe this will tune in more people which means more knowledge will be out there regarding ALL our Canadian music.

    Re: JUNO AWARDS

Well this weekend is the weekend I'm hoping that The Sadies finally get their just reward. I gave another listen to the nominees in their category and I really do believe they have the best soundYes so if you guys want to give it another listen, here's the link http://www.junoawards.ca/08_nominees_cat.php?id=2351

Their presentation I believe is tomorrow, so I'm getting nervous NOW. I can only imagine them and their families. WOW, talk about pressure. Like I said, even if they don't win, they've won in my heart alreadyBig Smile

GOOD luck to the Sadies, tomorrow and Blue Rodeo on Sunday. I'm hoping for GOOD news all around

    Re: JUNO AWARDS

I just read a bit in the Journal and Jim is going to co-host Mulligan's Stew on our local public radio station CKUA from 5-7 pm tonight with many guests ie. Barney Bentall, the Sadies. Also, tomorrow am at 10 on Folk Routes, Justin Rutledge is among the guests. They also said that CBC Radio is recording the Songwriter showcases for Radio 2. Here's the link for CKUA:

    Re: JUNO AWARDS

Hmmmmm that sounds real interesting, however, I don't see when The Sadies are suppose to be doing their on-air part. I see that Jim is doing his, probably right now, but I don't think The Sadies are there now cause I'm pretty sure they're at an award ceremony, however, I could be wrong.

    Thanks for the linkBig Smile
