it's all so familiar I think we've been to this dance
of all the wars i can remember
there's but one where we had to take that chance
to fight for hope and freedom and those great things we all believe
but somewhere the words just lost their meaning
and destroyed all that we'd hoped to achieve

cause you can't make another man want to live like you
by beating him with a stick
or change hearts and minds with torture and pain
and that's what they say that we did
we may never know the trouble we've caused
it may take generations to play out
but those that give must be prepared to receive
and for this i fear there is no doubt

and who will answer for the soldier
who stands so tall and brave
attempting to make sense in a state of confusion
thrust directly into the center of harms way
by those of suspicious character
who sit so high and removed
and dare prey on the emotion of a fallen tower
to feed their greed, profit, and power

cause if we continue to listen
to the broker and the politician
