It's all a mystery to me!

For some strange reason my sister gave me a DVD on learning to play the guitar for my birthday.  She also lent me one of her daughter's guitars.  My sister plays, but hasn't for a while, and now she wants us to pick along together.

She told me about these things called tabs, and also told me that songs can be deceptive.  Ones that sound like they would be simple to play can be quite complicated, and vice versa.  So my question is: What BR songs would you experienced pickers suggest to a beginner, and where are the 'tabs' available online?

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

    First step is www.stratomaster.ca.

It's got almost every tab there is to have, except for some of the newest songs.

I find that the easiest tabs are the ones with the simple chords... so mostly majors, a few minors, and nothing beyond that.  BR is more difficult than people give them credit for.  Most people tend to play good fakes (which are still good in social settings).

Easiest BR songs to play on guitar:
    Heart Like Mine
    Now and Forever
    Photograph
    Andrea
    Blue House

These songs all have a small number of different chords, and nothing outside of your standard major and minor chords.

Also, if I can add, Blue Rodeo has a number of thier own tab books out so you could learn solo's and what not. I really like them because I can play the piano because it has piano music and I can play fiddle with the voice.

    Carol,

I like that stratomaster.ca site too.....Wink  When I first learned to play some of the tunes I found the best were:

    Till I Am Myself Again

    It Could Happen To You

    Head Over Heals

    Moon & Tree

    Sad Nights

So have fun and don't give up even though your fingers get real sore.

Thanks Sparkster, Josh, and Stratomaster, for the music info!  Also thanks Jenn, for the encouragement!  I should have remembered from previous music discussions that when it comes to BR music, you are the man, Stratomaster!  It's still all Greek to me, but I love the sound of an acoustic guitar, and I will give it a shot.
