    Calgary Folk Festival

The folk festival released it's 2008 line-up today, including BLUE RODEO!! I didn't find a schedule of showtimes, but the festival runs july 24-27, so I'm assuming Saturday or Sunday.  I always have a blast at the folk festival, and this years includes acts like Sam Roberts and the Be Good Tanyas as well as many others!  Woo Hoo!!  But I'm still hoping for a Stampede Blue Rodeo show too, (to add a Yahoo to the Woo hoo).  Have a great weekend everyone!

    Re: Calgary Folk Festival

Blue Rodeo at Calgary Folk Fest is always amazing. I have seen them three times there!  My third time I met Jim before the show.

The big tragedy is that I am going to be home in Canada from June 12 to July 25th this year.  We have to fly back for work on the 25th. I am going to miss them by 24 hours. Crying

This is what happens when you decide to live outside of Canada. I did get to see them last summer during Stampede so that will have to hold me for another year.

I hope those that get to go to the show will enjoy every minute of it!

    Re: Calgary Folk Festival

I saw them at the Cowboys tent last July too - it was a pretty awesome show. We were standing up front - well, about 10 rows back - for the first three songs then we moved towards the back to find some more room. I was nearly eight months pregnant at that show!

I've never been to the Folk Fest - I've always wanted to go but somehow never made it, something always popped up at the most inopportune time.

A question - how family-friendly is it? My seven year old daughter will want to go, her Christmas present was tickets to see the Small Miracles tour here in Calgary and now she's bigtime hooked. Her favourite song right now is "Cinema Song" from "The Days In Between". I'm guessing I should hire a sitter for the younger two though - they'll be just-turned-two and not-quite-one in July.

    Re: Calgary Folk Festival

I was wondering that too (how family friendly is the Calgary folk fest) - a fellow at my work said it is pretty much the best/nicest crowd of people you could ever hope to have ... he said it is like going to a church event everyone is so nice :) He also said that out of respect for the residents across the river, if the organizers decide the show shuts down at 11:30, then the show shuts down at 11:30. I haven't been to a folk fest either, and was also wondering about taking my kids (who'll be 5 & 7 by then.) I'm kind of wondering what time the last act generally begins - does anyone have any idea? My kids would be super excited to see the band live also, but I shudder to think of how they'll be the next day, if they're up that late at night....

The next day is a Sunday, though, so that should make it a bit easier recovery-wise. My husband doesn't want to go (I think I'm wearing him out with BR every waking moment) so it'll be just my daughter and I unless my brother and his GF decide to come along.

    Re: Calgary Folk Festival

Well, we could arrange for a meet and greet at a McDonald's Playland beforehand, and everything will be fine :) But seriously, I'd be willing to bet you'll run into someone you know, even if your husband isn't into it (and anyways - 'free' babysitting!)

I don't see the Sadies on the list of performers.  Are they playing at this festival?
