Thank-you for the encouraging words SnowFalling.  I am lucky that my husband and daughter are more encouraging than negative.  They do have their moments though!

    Re: Weight Loss!

My solution to my weight problem has been to get out of my sedentary, sit-on-my-butt-in-front-of-a-computer-for-8-hours-a-day job and go to one that actually gets me moving.  I started it at the beginning of Dec and I've lost 15lbs since then.  It was so hard at first, but because I HAD to do it (because it was my job and I'd've been screwed if I didn't do it) rather than having to force myself to exercise, was all the motivation I needed.  I've got a loooong way to go before I hit my goal, but I'm already feeling better with more energy.  Another bonus is that I've also reduced a lot of stress in my life by getting out of the old job.

    Re: Weight Loss!

I wish you much luck Mthead.  It sounds like you are on the right track.  I am going to leave all of my gym stuff such as shoes and change of clothes in my car.  That way when I leave school in the afternoon I will have no excuse but to go straight to the gym.  I find if I go home first, I don't head back out the door.

Thanks!  I've come to the conclusion that you have to find something other than wanting to lose weight as motivation to actually do so.  For me, I had a job to do and losing weight was a side effect.  BTW, change that 15 to a 20 now!Party!!!

    Re: Weight Loss!

Marnie, that's fantastic news, keep up the GOOD work and sometimes, we need a change in our lives to really see what works for us and you having this new job and not having to sit in front of the computer all day long, changes everything.  It'll make you healthier by exercising cause you're moving, that in turn will hopefully make you feel better about yourself and then of course, the next step is to eating properly, which not many of us do.  But I'm sure when sitting in front of the computer or a tv or just plain sitting, we have a habit of munching, but if you're on the move, it's harder to munch---so in turn, maybe bad snacking habits will diminish, that is, if you have any.

    Re: Weight Loss!

I don't eat A LOT of junk food, but I do eat some.  I've been cutting back on that and trying to eat more home cooked things, that way I can keep track of what I'm putting in it.  I've never been a big eater, it's just that my metabolism is so low due to a severely underactive thyroid.  Being on medication helps level it out, but that only really means for me that I maintain the weight that I'm at, it's really hard to lose any.  I'm hoping that if I do lose a bunch more, that I will be able to maintain it based on the way it's been for me over the last 6 years or so.

    Re: Weight Loss!

That's awesome Marnie, its healthier too and that's what matters in the long run.

I've been making a conscience effort to eat better, not just for weight loss, but because it makes me feel better. I like the feeling of full of good than full of crap. I don't get that heavy weighted down feeling and it helps get me moving, except the last two nights, I've not been feeling well so by the time I get home from work, I'm ready to crash.

    Re: Weight Loss!

Well, I thought I'd revive this thread and see how everyone is doing.

I've hit a plateau. Hard dieting is next to impossible. The working out has been too successful and I'm popping new muscle everywhere. As a result, I'm starving almost all the time. I'm stronger, straighter, trimmer, shapelier, and the two key measurements that would let me change a clothing size won't budge. My current clothes flap on me as I walk down the road every day.

Anybody else looking at a wall? Maybe we could help each other pound it down.

    Re: Weight Loss!

Thanx for reviving the thread, SnowFalling. I've been going to do it, but just like my exercising, I keep putting it off! Sad

I have hit a wall, but that's really all my own doing. For whatever reason my resolve to exercise everyday just petered out & I started going through a 'chocolate phase' at the same time!! Fortunately, I have not gained more than a couple of pounds & my waistline (the first place to show a gain) has not really expanded, so I don't feel like all my previous hard work is lost, but I need to get back on track...NOW!!

I think I need to vary my exercise routine more...I love what the Pilates does for me, but I was getting bored. I have some light weights & I'm going to alternate the weights, with the Pilates, & possibly the video that came with my exercise ball.

I find it hard this time of year because the fluctuating temperatures & constantly changing weather fronts cause the FM (fibromyalgia) to flare up, but I also know that some exercise is good for me even then, or especially then! Tongue Tied

So, I'm going to climb back on my Gazelle this morning for starters, then pull out the latest Prevention magazine & have a look at the article on using weights to aid in metabolism-boosting! YesBig Smile

    Re: Weight Loss!

I think it's natural for everyone to have ups and downs during an exercise or losing weight routine. I know that I have a hard time sticking to any form of exercise though I am active.  It's just hard knowing that you "HAVE" to do it. What I enjoy is playing volleyball once a week with friends and that's exercise, and you're doing it with friends and you don't even realize that you're working out your body. So maybe a group exercise like that is something to look into. We just rent a gym once a week in a small school and a dozen of us go and have fun.

An important key is to eat healthy and I know that we can't do it all the time as the craving for something "bad" is always lurking, so we must indulge in that once in a while. Sometimes with that comes a low which makes us not want to do much and just veg out on the couch.  Everyone is entitled to some of that as well, but we have to turn around and get back on that wagon to get to where we feel GOOD about ourselves.

Spring is just around the corner which means nicer weather and in turn, everyone feels better, so maybe things  will be easier.

Snowfalling, sounds like you're doing great on your weight lossYes

Sammie, I know you were doing awesome and it's just a road block so don't worry too much--you'll be back on track in no timeBig Smile

    Re: Weight Loss!

Thanx, JAM. I just finished a session with the weights. I know I'm going to feel it tomorrow!! LOL But that's a good thing!

I'm looking forward to the Spring yardwork, & a more positive mental state that being out in the sunshine will bring. But until the better weather comes, I'll focus on getting back to a regular routine. It did keep me on track to post here every day, so I may start doing that again. Smile

    Re: Weight Loss!

I agree that playing a sport is so much more fun than just plain old exercise.  I've joined a couple of gyms in the past and didn't like it... one of them was in the same building I was working in... which was convenient... and the other was Curves.  I liked the fact that it was only women there... but that whole routine was just so repetitive.  I quickly got sick of it.  I get so much more enjoyment out of playing badminton for an hour or even tennis.  I'm lucky at school that I can bug students to play sports with me after school.  haha!

But I wanted to also add that I've decided to give up drinking pop.  I typically have 2 glasses of Pepsi every day... and I want to stop doing that.  I'm going to stick to water and fruit juices from now.  And yes, I know that I have to be careful which juices I drink because some of them are so loaded with sugar that they're worse than Pepsi!  This is going to be tough... but I've done it before.  I once gave up Pepsi for 40 days (during Lent).  I know I can do it!  Wish me luck!  haha!

I hope everyone else out there gets back on track too.  Spring is just around the corner... and then it'll be summer...

    Re: Weight Loss!

Ah, yes..Summer..now the thought of swimsuits, or even shorts & tanktops should be enough to motivate all of us to get our rears in gear, eh? LOL

Good luck with the pop, Allison. I love my water with a squeeze of lemon in it now. If I'm travelling for the day, I'll even crack open the number of bottles I'm going to take on the road & give them each a squirt of lemon juice!
