Went to Iron Man last night, it was really entertaining.  Robert Downey Jr. did a great job and didn't overdo the whole 'super hero' thing.  I saw the trailers for the new Indiana Jones and Batman movies, they look really good too.  This is going to be a good month or so for movies!

I wanted to go see Iron Man, but instead this weekend was the weekend of the rental movie for me - I rented "The Hunting Party" - with Richard Gere, which was pleasantly a surprisingly good thriller - I really enjoyed it! I also rented "Rendition", which was also good. Reese Witherspoon was amazingly affective in her performance in the movie. I thought it was a very powerful film.

I rented "Reservation Road" with Joaquin Phoenix on Sunday.  It was excellent... really great story that makes you think.  It's about a hit and run accident... and things get really complicated.

Oooh and I finally saw "Juno" last week.  LOVED it!  Ellen Page was so natural and great in that role.

I saw a pretty bizarre one the other night too... "Lars and the Real Girl" (starring Ryan Gosling).  I like "off the wall" movies though, so I enjoyed it... but definitely wouldn't be for everybody.  And speaking of "off the wall" - if you want to see a great comedy, you should rent "Death at a Funeral".   It was hilarious!!  Those Brits crack me up!

I saw Eastern Promises last week, it was a pretty good thriller.

Also saw Factory Girl which was kinda depressing.  I hear Bob Dylan is going after them for the way he was portrayed in the film.

Re: Seen any good movies lately?

Hey Wes!  I saw both those movies and also enjoyed them.  You're right about "Factory Girl" being terribly depressing.  I thought it was really well done though... showed a pretty honest picture of what it was like being in that circle.  I had not heard about Bob Dylan suing them.  Interesting!

I doubt he will get very far seeing as the character is listed in the credits as "Musician".  Its easy to tell the guy is supposed to be Dylan though.

Re: Seen any good movies lately?

I went to see U2 in 3D last night at the IMAX theatre here in the Old Port of Montreal. WOW! I've never been to a U2 concert, but I'm sure that beats front row tickets!! At one point, when they do the song "Sunday Bloody Sunday", when he goes "wipe your tears away" Bono is so close to you, he can almost touch your face!! The concert was recorded in Argentina and there must have been hundreds of thousands of people there - literally a sea of people! And you're right on stage with them! If anyone has fantasies of knowing what it feels like to be a huge rock star on a stage, that movie will give you an idea of what it's like! And U2's music is so powerful! They play songs from their early days right up to their latest CD with "Vertigo" and "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" which Bono wrote for his father. He is one cool dude! I had goosebumps the whole time they did "Pride (In the Name of Love)". If there is an IMAX theatre close to where you live, I highly recommend you go and see this. The New York Times called it "the first IMAX movie you can truly call a work of art"!

Re: Seen any good movies lately?

Recently I have seen I Am Legend, Atonement, and The Mist.  I have to say that I am getting really tired of the sad/depressing endings of all the most recent films!  Yes, we all know that life sucks and then we die!  C'mon!  Let's have a little happy ending escapism for a change Hollywood, or at least a choice of an alternative ending!  Sad
I carry with me the memory of a field I once knew, of a night so full of stars that I was left humbled by it's endless beauty. I know that whatever the cost, life is worth living. So bring it on...I can take it.

Hey Diane!  That sounds amazing!  I've been to the IMAX only once in my life, and loved it.  I can just imagine how cool it would be to see a concert in that setting.  Wow!  Unfortunately, the closest IMAX to me is in Halifax... almost 5 hours away.

I rented a couple of movies tonight... "P.S. I love you" and "Kite Runners".  I'll let you know how they were!
