Re: Announcing ... Blue Rodeo Concert Trading Network (BR-CTN)

    Hi -

As some of you may know, there's been a small grassroots effort underway to launch a community for trading, sharing, and discussing unofficial live recordings of Blue Rodeo. Starting today, the Blue Rodeo Concert Trading Network (BR-CTN) will provide a fan-driven forum for distributing the band's considerable amount of unreleased concerts, radio interviews, and other rarities. We're not a replacement for this site ... just an outlet for fans wanting to take their passion in a new direction.

Importantly, this is a forum for fans who love the band, not a forum for profit. If you're like most fans here, you've long since bought all the band's albums, seen their concerts every time they come close to you, and bought all the gear you can possibly wear. When we approached Jim after last week's show in Northampton, he understood where we were coming from and gave us his blessing to get started. He even indicated that they had taped that night's show for exactly this type of distribution!

Since we're inventing this as we go along, we want lots of you to get involved! Visit our site on Yahoo! groups, sign up to get our emails, and drop us a note about what you'd like to see us doing. Even better, get in on a trade or dig into your own archive for something worth sharing! If you want to more officially get involved as a co-organizer, we're open to that too.

As an added bonus, we've kicked things off today with a great trade opportunity for the band's 2002 Palace of Gold concert in Ferndale, MI. Look for more trades there soon, including a rare show from Brantford that's emerging for the first time from Dianne's personal collection.

See you soon @ the Blue Rodeo Concert Trading Network -- http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bluerodeotradingnetwork/

    Best from your fellow fans,

    - James in Boston
    - Dianne in Ottawa

So do you have to have something to trade in order to get the live recordings?

"downtown tripping not doing too much, just weaving our way through the traffic till the sun comes up.."
It's alright now.....people get through this somehow....

    Hi -

To clarify, you needn't have anything to offer to get started with us.

In our first trade opportunity, I'm sharing out 5 sets of the Ferndale 2002 show in exchange for a blank CD and postage (B&P, as we call it). All the recipients are committed to, in turn, copying their originals and offering at least 2 new sets back to the group ... and so on.

Depending on what the group likes, we can see testing some vines, trees, and even newer peer-to-peer or FTP technologies. The forum is just a means to bring like-minded people together.

So ... don't be shy about joining us if you have no material to trade. All you need is a CD burner and the willingness to get started with your collection. Smile

    Best,

    - James

I'm only slightly confused about this. I posted a message to you James thinking that I was e-mailing you or maybe I was. So where do I look for a response, will it go to my e-mail or will it go as a post.

I have always found yahoo confusing. Might take me a bit of practice to figure all this out. Bare with me okay.

Re: Announcing ... Blue Rodeo Concert Trading Network (BR-CTN)

I tried to sign up guys but the verification email didn't come, so I can't get in, and I can't see where to go to contact them about it - kinda frustrating going around in circles.

Hate to be a downer, but I'm starting to remember why I abandoned Yahoo! a few years ago.

    Can you help me out?

    Cheers

Exciting news! Don't do much taping myself, but I really hope this takes off. We just returned from a festival where most of the bands actively encourage taping and the added exposure that it brings. True grassroots support! Thanks guys! Smile

I don't have a CD burner on my computer, but my parents (who live 20 minutes from me) have one on their computer's hard drive ... so I guess I could use that .. if I can figure out the process (my dad wasn't even certain what a CD burner was for when he got the computer, so I think I'm on my own when it comes to learning how to use it). Personally, I've never been part of something like this, but it sounds cool.

Hey ALBrodeo, I think if I can figure it out you should be able to do it.

Thanks James for getting back to me...I think I can figure it out.

Re: Announcing ... Blue Rodeo Concert Trading Network (BR-CTN)

I really hope this community of sorts survives...I don't have the money to collect BR boots (mailing boots and blanks), so I hope somebody decides to start an FTP! I doubt it, though, because FTPs are so expensive and with ISPs shutting down bandwidth-consuming servers all the time, FTPs just might be on the way out Frown
