I had to turn the boys away from my bar!

Guys - if you ever read these things - I'm truly sorry. Thanks for being such gentlemen about it.

I had to turn the band away from the bar I work in tonight because they didn't have ID on them! My boss was standing right beside me so I couldn't do anything about it. I had to make the poor buggers walk back across town and get them. Argh!

Anyway, yeah - sorry guys! If you ever want to let me know when you're in town again I'll happily take you all out for a drink on me to make it up to you. Just let me know so I can take the night off! (Funny thing is that this isn't even my real job - I'm only working in a bar during Stampede to help them out during the rush)

Re: I had to turn the boys away from my bar!

I'm totally serious folks. Apparently here (Alberta) you have to have your ID on your person no matter what age you are. The bar I'm talking about got caught this time last year and it was some 40-year-old the police had carded so the bar is being really careful now because they can get shut down and get all kinds of fines. Not to mention a shut down during Stampede would be a fine in itself - they'd lose thousands.

Bazil came back for sure - I talked to him when he came in the second time. I hear the other guys did too but I was on a break so I didn't see them myself.

    So lame.

Re: I had to turn the boys away from my bar!

Well I'm glad that they came back.

I can't believe that they would really even consider checking for ID--that is just so crazy. I'm sure they understood so I wouldn't give it another thought.

They probably were first thrown back by being asked to see their ID exclaim and probably even had a little chuckle.

Well I'm glad it all worked out in the end Smile

Am I the only person who thinks it's a bit strange that none of them were carrying ID? I would assume they had their wallets with them (I wouldn't leave mine in any hotel room!).

Re: I had to turn the boys away from my bar!

Something a bit odd about this story. The legal drinking age in alberta is 18, the Alberta Liquor and Gaming regulations only stipulate holders of liquor license are obligated to request adequate ID from patrons who appear 25 or younger. If you truly turned them away, it was for some other reason. For crying out loud, it was Bob's 50th birthday. Sorry, finding it too hard to believe.

CoolThink I'll hold off my trip to Alberta untill someone confirms this story, But if it's true(and I have no reason to believe it isn't) I'm on my way! With the mileage I have on this kisser,it would be GREAT for the ego to be carded!

I always have my ID out and so far, nobody wants to see it... FrownSo, just let me know where it is that I need to go to be asked, I'll be bringing along a video camera to capture this moment. Cause no one would believe it could really happen!

That's an interesting story! I don't know how the guys felt but I'd be so freakin' flattered if someone asked me for ID!! I mean hey that hasn't happened to me in a couple years Wink!!

Re: I had to turn the boys away from my bar!

I, personally, don't go to the bar that much, but some of my younger friends from work do a lot and they can't get anywhere without their ID. Being from AB as well, though, I have heard that some of the bar owners around here are really strict with ID'ing people. It can't be a school ID or anything else that might have a picture with their name and age on it, it can only be a government issued photo ID.

I'm not from Alberta, but this story sounds odd. And I'm wondering the same thing as you Donna...wouldn't they have their wallets on them? I know my husband never leaves home without it!
