Not to be rude, sore fingers, but I'd be more concerned with that beak.

Anyway, it may come in handy if you're just fishin' for facts, eh? Wink Big Grin
To be or not to be is NOT the question!

Rather, is it your will to be here, or to be elsewhere?

Well as for not carrying a wallet. My husband never wants to carry one around, he'll usually give it to me or whatever. But I can see them not wanting to carry stuff like that around, easy to lose, not really necessary (or you wouldn't think so), maybe just some bills and loose change in your pockets and you're good to go.

They probably just assumed they didn't need it and it was safer leaving that kind of stuff someplace safer than on them. You just never know what can happen when you've had just a little too much to drink exclaim

Either way, I'm sure it all worked out well in the long run. You gotta follow rules you know thumbup

Hey ... a mild inconvenience when you think of what folks must be feeling like in Israel this morning.

    Yes GG .. and Lebanon.

I had Israel on my mind because I have a friend who is living there and received an email from her yesterday telling me that she is returning home on Thursday. Imagine waking up in the morning to air raid sirens and having to hide in your closet! All this before coffee! We all need a reality check once in a while eh?

Hey HLM... that was for Johnny, I still haven't figured out what the heck he's on about.

I hope your friend will be OK. What a horrible situation over there.

I was going to start a thread over in "News & Views" about the Middle East crisis just to say that although I haven't been in contact with her, I do know that one of our members (Reem) has quite a few family members in Lebanon. Let's keep her and everyone affected by this crisis in our thoughts and prayers. angel

And Johnny? I'll take Canada over South Korea anyday, thankyouverymuch! Big Grin

Did i say Asia was wonderful? Frankly that wasn't my point & don't see why it should even be made an issue here.

Yes, the situation in the Middle is awful, however, why should that mean Canada is not without its flaws then & beyond any honest criticism?

A responsible citizen would take a hard, honest look, rather than simply pledge blind allegiance with heaps of sugary sweet praise.

Having said this now, don't get me wrong : J'aime le Canada, however, it's not without its drawbacks.

e.g. Being taxed to death, so fat-cat politicians & corrupt bureaucrats can play the game = one reason for a growing overseas expat community.

I stand by my remarks that ID-ing an old person is entirely absurd as well.

What's the logic? Is there any, other than further state intrusiveness simply for its own sake?

Excess socialization is ... just not cool.

    Hardly what i'd call "freedom".

Re: I had to turn the boys away from my bar!

I think others were trying to point out why we are fortunate to be living in Canada. We don't have bombs going off outside our doors nor do we have missiles being launch in our backyards.

I live in Asia as well and have travelled extensively throughout and I am happy that I will be living in Canada soon. Canada certainly isn't without flaws but I would rather be there than in a country of war and uncertainty.

I guess I am not a responsible citizen... Roll Eyes

I'd like to hear your views on the state preventing two people from getting married, Johnny.

As for the whole ID in a Calgary bar issue... I'd say Alberta is as far from a socialist province as you could get. So when you talk about excess socialism in Alberta, I just have to smile, because it sounds like a joke waiting for a punchline!!

Re: I had to turn the boys away from my bar!

    Bling Allegance??

Hey Johnny, here's some reading for you.

World Wide Quality Of Living Survey

Best Places To Live in 2005

Don't forget the United Nations ranked us the best country to live in anywhere in the World for 7 years in a row. Now, we've slipped a touch and Norway has that crown, BUT, we are always in the top 5. Pretty damn good, and it makes me pretty damn proud. Sure we have our draw backs and taxes are definitely one of them. But don't ever forget, we have one of the best standards of living anywhere. Even though we dropped top spot to Norway, I don't speak Norwegian so I think I'll hang out here.

As for IDing Old people, the law in Alberta states you must ID anyone that appears under the age of 25. So, after a few bars getting in trouble during Stampede, a local bar owner decides he's not going to let his liquor license be jeopardized by a door person checking ID. So, he simply tells his door person "No ID, no entry, no exceptions". That's where it came from Johnny. It was a local bar owners decision - not "further state intrusiveness simply for its own sake". Had nothing to do with the government and it's laws.

Canada, socialist?? If you say so!! Roll Eyes
