    Re: NFL/CFL 2004/2005/2006

Well, it was about one play away from being a perfect week.

First, we got tickets for the Twins game at face value just a few minutes before the first pitch... I didn't really care much who won so just getting in was a victory for me.  Then the high school tennis team I cover sent two doubles teams to the state tournament, the volleyball team won their game, the football team came up with a huge upset of their biggest rival... on Saturday UWEC won their Homecoming game and the Badgers thumped Northwestern.  On Sunday the Packers were driving for the winning touchdown right in our corner of the end zone... then came the fumble, right in front of us.  Daryn Colledge had it right in his chest and somehow couldn't hold on.  Rams recover, Rams win.

I suppose of all those sporting events *one* of them was destined not to go my way.

Sounds like a heck of a week full of sports, must of been nice to cap it off with a NFL game! Personally, I can't wait till the Pats vs. Jets game on November 12th. Two of my co-workers and my fiance are driving down a few days before. It's amazing how much cheaper a trip gets when you can drive instead of having to fly.

My 18 yr. old son, Neil, and I are heading to NYC for the Bills/Jets game on 12/10, and after a few days there we're going to Buffalo for the Bills/Dolphins game on 12/18. Neil has never been to a "home" Bills game as he was 2 when we moved West and he's never been to NYC, so we're really excited about the trip.  Now if the Bills would just cooperate. Smile

Sounds like a fun trip!  The Bills are tough to figure out, they're not all too good but they did manage to beat the Vikings (which redeems their entire season in my eyes) and the Dolphins are struggling so you never know.  At the very least I'm jealous of you for getting to see two of my favorite players that I've never seen play, Lee Evans and Jimmy Leonhard.  Leonhard is from this area and has done football camps here in town and everything.

It's such a experience to see a NFL game live. I still get goosebumps thinking about my first game I took in last year. Just to be there live and in person (and the great seat helped too!) was a great experience. If only it was possible to see a game every week!

    Re: NFL/CFL 2004/2005/2006

I got home from work last night when the Cardinals-Bears game was 23-10 and I couldn't believe it. Then the last 10 minutes of the game took place. Simply amazing. I've never seen a team fall apart so fast like the Cardinals did....

With the trade deadline looming, there's the big "rumour" that Randy Moss might get traded to the Pats. Frankly I can't see it happening (although the Pats have extra draft picks for next year including the 2nd first rounder from the Branch deal), but if it did......

    Re: NFL/CFL 2004/2005/2006

If it did, I'd feel very sorry for you.  Living about 90 miles from the Metrodome I've seen firsthand the trouble that he can cause.  He doesn't have the character or the work ethic one would associate with the Patriots.  Stay far away.

Speaking of receivers, the Packers are going to be incredibly thin there now that one of the teams' strengths has been decimated again.  But there are no excuses, they knew when they signed Koren Robinson that there was a good chance he'd miss time with league suspensions.  But combining that with Robert Ferguson (who they should know by now is unreliable) being possibly out for the year, they have nothing in the way of a 3rd receiver behind Donald Driver and Greg Jennings.  Tough to beat that starting duo, but Ruvell Martin as the 3rd WR?  Or TE David Martin lining up as a WR?  We'll just say that position needs addressing.

As for the Bears game, I couldn't believe that when I was watching it.  Rex Grossman personally had six turnovers, completed about 30 percent of his passes, the Bears didn't manage an offensive touchdown all game, meanwhile Matt Leinart had a very solid game and the Cardinals owned the time of possession about 2-to-1.  Yet the Bears make three big plays - two fumble recovery TDs and a punt return TD - to win.  Part of it is the same old Cardinals finding ways to blow games... but part of it was very reminiscent of when the Bears won the division in 2001 when it seemed like EVERY defensive break went their way.  I remember Mike Brown returning interceptions for game-winning TDs in back-to-back weeks in overtime, and go figure, Brown had one of the fumble return TDs last night.  Bears were very fortunate to win that game.  But I think some of the blame has to go to the moron standing on the Cardinals' sidelines, you'd think that after the first 20some carries got only 1-2 yards per carry, you'd try something other than Edgerrin James.  He set an all-time record last night, no runningback had ever carried that many times for that few yards... something like 36 carries for 56 yards?  And then Dennis Green blames and fires his offensive coordinator...

    Re: NFL/CFL 2004/2005/2006

I thought firing the co-ordinator was pathetic. Instead of blaming himself, Green fires someone else. Personally, I can't see Green lasting till the end of the year. Best of luck to whoever takes over that job!

    Re: NFL/CFL 2004/2005/2006

Loved the Packer game yesterday, what I saw of it.  Only caught the second half from a sports bar across from the Mecca in Milwaukee, coming home from a weekend-long field trip in Chicago, but got to see Favre's Lambeau Leap.  The guy's amazing.  Nothing more needs to be said.

Also enjoyed what I saw of the Patriots' win tonight.  Geoff, it's not often you hear me say this, but Go Patriots!  Did they ever make the Vikings look bad.  Loved the irony of seeing Laurence Maroney break that long return on the field he played his college ball on, silencing the crowd he used to electrify.

    Re: NFL/CFL 2004/2005/2006

First we agree on who we think's gonna win the Arena Bowl and you rooted for the Pats last night? Is that the 2nd sign of the apocolypse? Cool Seriously, what a great game. I loved how the Pats knew Minnesota was great at stopping the run and came out and threw the ball, over and over again. I am really psyched about the Indy game this sunday night. I think memories of the blow out from last year's loss to the Colts will be a great motivating factor for Brady. And what a great moment with Favre's leap! Derek, could you edit your team in the BR league, you need another QB, since I don't see Culpepper coming back anytime soon!

    Re: NFL/CFL 2004/2005/2006

Oops, sorry about that.  School, work, and family issues have kind of taken over my life lately at the expense of sleep and fantasy football and pretty much everything else.  Been a rough couple months here.  I'll try to keep up a little better.

As for us agreeing, I'm afraid I'm going to have to put that to an end right now with a big GO COLTS!

No worries, Losman is available and maybe somebody else. I have no problem editing your lineup if need be Derek. Good to see things are back to normal with your Colts cheer! LOL

I'm heading down to Boston after work tonight for the Pats vs. Jets game on sunday and I'm frickin excited!!! I'm hoping for a Patriots win, I joke that they "owe me" since they lost when I went to a game last year.

    Cheers! Party!!! Beer

    Re: NFL/CFL 2004/2005/2006

Any thoughts on the Patriots vs. Packers game this sunday Derek? I'm hoping the Pats can rebound from the 2 game losing streak (damn that was disapointing seeing a loss sunday, I joke that I'm a jinx to my team when I see them live!). Given the way they've played on the road this year, I'm optimistic for a win!
