    hey cabinboy! the hip! bobcaygeon

Hi cabinboy... I always wondered where your signature came from and this morning, I found out where. I heard the Tragically Hip song "Bobcaygeon" on the radio... very cool! I really like this song... what album is it from do you know? I'm at work right now too... and we do roadside assistance... and I got a call from someone in Bobcaygeon...

    thumbup

i left your house this morning about a quarter after nine coulda been the willie nelson coulda been the wine when i left your house this morning it was a little after nine it was in bobcaygeon that i saw the constellations reveal themselves one star at a time drove back to town this morning with working on my mind i thought of maybe quitting thought of leaving it behind went back to bed this morning and as i'm pulling down the blinds i saw the sky was dull and hypothetical and falling one cloud at a time that night in toronto with it's checkerboard floors riding on horseback and keeping order restored til the men they couldn't hang stepped to the mic and sang and they're voices rang with that aryan twang i got to your house this morning just a little after nine in the middle of that riot couldn't get you off my mind so i'm at your house this morning just a little after nine cause it was in bobcaygeon that i saw the constellations reveal thenselves one star at a time

It's from Phantom Power, the 1998 album you might also remembering as spawning the hit single "Poets". Bobcaygeon's a little tiny town in Ontario. We drove past it the last time I was in the province!

It really is an amazing song. One of the best in the Canadian folkish canon. Great album too.

Thanks for the quick reply Neil! I'll have to check the local pawn shops to see if I can find a used copy of the cd...

If I'm not mistaken, "Panthom Power" is also the same cd that our very own Bob Egan is featured on eh??

May the Phantom Be With You

Hey, NYCBRFAN, when I was at Academy Records on West 18th Street last week, I noticed that they had a bunch of the Tragically Hip cds. I'm not sure if they had "Phantom Power", but you could give 'em a call. I wholeheartedly plug these folks, since they have the best quality used cds I've seen in Manhattan, and you don't have to bust a wallet when you're there. Average price per disc is $7 to $9. Lot's of out of print stuff too.

That is the place where I picked up a promotional copy of Kathleen Edwards' "Failer" and I cleaned them out of their stash of Rankin Family cds. I usually stop there after work so if ya see a guy with a red beard and gold rimmed glasses pawing over the rock cds, it's me! Happy hunting! tude

Thanks for fillin in the blanks for me Howlin Wink. The Hip are a very cool band. I did not know I must confess that Bobcaygeon was actually a "tiny town in Ontario". The coolness never ends with those guys! tude

THanks Peter - I'm always looking for good used cd source and I've never been to that one - I usually frequent the ones on St Mark's place near Astor.

I dig, man! They really are a fantastically cool band. Gord's solo stuff has established him as not only a great poet but also a breathtaking songwriter! Do you collect concert recordings? You haven't heard the band til you've got a nice stash of bootlegs at your disposal!

And I was hoping you wouldn't mind me usurping your chance to answer Allison's post. I only realized she was really specifically asking you the question after I posted! Big Grin

This thread brought a smile to my face. My little post about a song lyric has prompted NYCBRFAN to go out and buy the cd... you'll definitely have to tell us what you thought of it. I'm gonna pick it up too this week at one point. Smile

Allison, I love that song! I don't have the album but a friend made me a mix of their songs a long time ago when I was trying "to get into" them. anyway I love the Hip now and am working on collecting their albums.

Allison, that is the first song played when I get to my cottage!! It's not in Bobcaygen but in Huntsville, just the thought of being in cottage country in northern Ontario brings out the best in that song.

    Excellent c.d.
