This one gets me everytime....even just reading it now!!

He Gets That From Me - Reba McEntire

    His early mornin' attitude
You have to drag him out of bed
    Only Frosted Flakes will do
    He gets that from me
Yeah, he gets that from me
His curly hair and his knobby knees
The way the sun brings those freckles out
Talk and talk, never miss a beat
Yeah, he gets that from me
    He gets that from me
He looks at me with those big brown eyes
He's got me in the palm of his hands
    And I swear sometimes
It's just like you're here again
He smiles that little crooked smile
There's no denying he's your child
Without him, I don't know what I'd do
    He gets that from you
Oh, he gets that from you
How he loves your old guitar
Yeah, he's taught himself to play
    He melts my heart
Tells me he love me every day
And cracks a joke at the perfect time
Makes me laugh when I want to cry
That boy is everything to me
    He gets that from you
    He gets that from you
Last night I heard him pray
Lord, help me and Mama make it through
And tell Daddy, we'll be okay
He said, he sure misses you
    He sure misses you
    He really misses you
    He gets that from me

Re: What Songs Bring You To Tears?????????

Oooh I must be on a bad roll. Here's another one from Elton John and Bernie Taupin.

    Cold as Christmas

We still sit at separate tables
And we sleep at different times
And the warm wind in the palm trees
Hasn't helped to change our minds

It was the lure of the tropics
That I thought might heal the scars
Of a love burned out by silence
    In a marriage minus heart

And I call the kids on the telephone
Say there's something wrong out here
It's July but it's cold as Christmas
In the middle of the year

The temperature's up to ninety five
But there's a winter look in your mother's eyes
And to melt the tears there's a heat wave here
So how come it's cold as Christmas in the middle of the year

I dreamed of love in a better climate
And for what it's really worth
I put faith in the star we followed
    To this Caribbean surf

But there's an icy fringe on everything
And I cannot find the lines
Where's the beauty in the beast we made
Why the frost in the summertime

    Where my designer B*tches at?

Re: What Songs Bring You To Tears?????????

Wow Ray...that really is sad!  I've also found another that I just love and always have.  I can torture myself with this one, and bring myself to tears in a flash.  It's by a band called Bread (from years ago) and it's called "Everything I Own". He wrote it for his Dad after he passed away, so I suppose that's why it makes me cry.  I really feel this one personally and I'm going to put a part of it in the paper as a memoriam for my Dad.

    "Everything I Own

    You sheltered me from harm
Kept me warm, kept me warm
You gave my life to me
Set me free, set me free
The finest years I ever knew
Were all the years I had with you

I would give anything I own
Give up me life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again

You taught me how to love
What its of, what its of
    You never said too much
But still you showed the way
And I knew from watching you
    Nobody else could ever know
The part of me that can't let go

I would give anything I own
Give up me life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again

    Is there someone you know
    You're loving them so
But taking them all for granted
You may lose them one day
    Someone takes them away
And they don't hear the words you long to say

I would give anything I own
Give up me life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again

I didn't ever know there were that many sad songs around. I guess EJ and BT were right when they said "Sad songs say so much". It's a good way to understand feelings and to know that others have felt the same feelings before.

I think that's why we all love Blue Rodeo so much.  They pour out such day to day emotions, that all of us can relate 100% to.  Falling Down Blue,Crying  Lostogether,Sad Rage,Angry Head Over Heels Big Smile, FuseIndifferent Oh the list with our guys goes on and on. Music is so important to our lives. I was talking with a friend   Geeked yesterday about how my Mom can sing every word to songs she knew 80 years ago, but she can't remember a conversation we had 2 minutes ago. I think our brain attaches the emotion to the song forever. Just hearing a song while out grocery shopping can bring you to tears. It seems to put you right back there, in that wrinkle in time.

Sometimes you love the song cause it makes you feel happyBig Smile, then you listen closer to the lyrics and realize that they are truly hurtin'Crying words. Funny how many times I've found songs like that. We make a connection which in turn makes us feel like the songs were written just for us. Smile Dunno if anyone has started the flip side to being sad, but maybe we should...."what songs make you so happy you could just shi .Big SmileIndifferent" or "what songs are so syrupy and sweet, that they make you Ick!sick to your stomach" or "what songs bring you to smashing your radio into a million pieces"Super Angry? Re: What Songs Bring You To Tears?????????

I just had to revive this old thread because I found a song that I used to love but completely forgot about until I was going through some old cd's I had made a few years ago.  Has anyone ever heard the song 'Concrete Angel' by Martina McBride?  It's basically about child abuse and every time I hear it, I'm brought to tears.

I just went to lyrics.com to find the lyrics and it has the video for it right there.  I can hardly type after watching it.  http://www.lyrics.com/lyric.php?id=22499

    Concrete Angel

She walks to school with the lunch she packed
Nobody knows what she's holdin' back
Wearin' the same dress she wore yesterday
She hides the bruises with linen and lace

The teacher wonders but she doesn't ask
It's hard to see the pain behind the mask
Bearing the burden of a secret storm
Sometimes she wishes she was never born

Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
    Concrete angel

Somebody cries in the middle of the night
The neighbors hear, but they turn out the lights
A fragile soul caught in the hands of fate
When morning comes it'll be too late

Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
    Concrete angel

A statue stands in a shaded place
An angel girl with an upturned face
A name is written on a polished rock
A broken heart that the world forgot

Through the wind and the rain
She stands hard as a stone
In a world that she can't rise above
But her dreams give her wings
And she flies to a place where she's loved
    Concrete angel

    Yesterday is yesterday. (This Town)

It's only heaven descending. (Black Ribbon)

Just remember, if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off.

Re: What Songs Bring You To Tears?????????

I've listened to this song so many times....that I can't say it brings me to tears but I think its one of the best love songs ever and the sentiment in it is so real!

    "In Your Eyes" Peter Gabriel

love I get so lost, sometimes
days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
when I want to run away
I drive off in my car
    but whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are

    all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside

    in your eyes
    the light the heat
    in your eyes
    I am complete
    in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
    in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
    in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
    in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
the heat I see in your eyes

love, I don't like to see so much pain
so much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive

and all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside

    in your eyes
    the light the heat
    in your eyes
    I am complete
    in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
    in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
    in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
    in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light,
the heat I see in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes

    Bobby Darin's 18 Yellow Roses...

When the boy came to the door
I didn't know what to say
But eighteen yellow roses came today

I opened up the card to see what it said
Couldn't believe my eyes when I had read
Though you belong to another,I love you anyway
Yes eighteen yellow roses came today

I never doubted your love for a minute
I always thought that you would be true
But now this box with the flowers in it
I guess there's nothing left for me to do

But ask to meet the boy who has done this thing
And find out if he's got plans to buy you a ring
Cause eighteen yellow roses, will wilt and die one day
But a fathers love will never fade away

    Yes,eighteen yellow roses came today

    Don't even worry about tomorrow
You know it's only today all over again.

Re: What Songs Bring You To Tears?????????

That song reminded me of another one.

    Billy Ray Cyrus

    Ready Set, Don't Go

(There's also a duet done with Miley...that ones great too!)

She's gotta do what she's gotta do
And I've gotta like it or not
She's got dreams too big for this town
And she needs to give 'em a shot
    Whatever they are

Looks like she's all ready to leave
    Nothing left to pack
There ain't no room for me in that car
Even if she asked me to tag along
    God I gotta be strong

    (chorus)
She's at the startin' line of the rest of her life
As ready as she's ever been
Got the hunger and the stars in her eyes

The prize is hers to win
She's waitin' on my blessings before she hits that open road
    Baby get ready
    Get set
    Don't go

She says things are fallen into place
    Feels like they're fallen apart
I painted this big ol' smile on my face
    To hide my broken heart
    If only she knew
This is where I don't say what I want so bad to say
This is where I want to but I won't get in the way
    Of her and her dreams
    And spreadin' her wings

She's at the startin' line of the rest of her life
As ready as she's ever been
Got the hunger and the stars in her eyes
The prize is hers to win
She's waitin' on my blessings before she hits that open road
    Baby get ready
    Get set
    Don't go

She's at the startin' line of the rest of her life
As ready as she's ever been
Got the hunger and the stars in her eyes
The prize is hers to win
She's waitin' on my blessings before she hits that open road
    Baby get ready
    Get set
    Please Don't go

    Don't go
    Don't go
She's gotta do what she's gotta do
She's gotta do what she's gotta do

Re: What Songs Bring You To Tears?????????

Great thread - thanks for reviving it, Marnie! Wink

Lately, I have two such songs that have moved me to tears - "Falling Slowly" from the movie "Once" (it won the Oscar for Best Original Song) and "Alicia Ross" off the new Kathleen Edwards cd. The first song just really speaks to me, and it's just such an emotional song that in many ways and on different levels, I completely feel like I can relate to the words and the simple message of trying to find hope in a seemingly hopeless world.

The other song, "Alicia Ross", the words really speak for themselves - and although this song is written in particular about one person, it could really be about anyone - any number of such sad, similar cases of a young woman taken and murdered in some dark corner, and it's just such a sad, beautiful song to me.

    Falling Slowly (Glen Hansard/Marketa Irglova)

    I don’t know you

    But I want you

    All the more for that

    Words fall through me

    And always fool me

    And I can’t react

    And games that never amount

    To more than they’re meant

    Will play themselves out

Take this sinking boat and point it home

    We’ve still got time

Raise your hopeful voice, you have a choice

    You’ve made it now

Falling slowly, eyes that know me

    And I can’t go back

Moods that take me and erase me

    And I’m painted black

    You have suffered enough

    And warred with yourself

    It’s time that you won

Take this sinking boat and point it home

    We’ve still got time

Raise your hopeful voice, you have a choice

    You’ve made it now

Take this sinking boat and point it home

    We’ve still got time

Raise your hopeful voice, you have a choice

    You’ve made it now

    Falling slowly, sing your melody

    I’ll sing along

    Alicia Ross (Kathleen Edwards)

I am a girl with a forgettable face

No matter my colour, no matter my name

At work there is a boy and he treats me well

My old friends from high school,

    I see them around

August is here I can’t believe how fast

Soon there will be winter and snow on the ground

Maybe by then I could get my own place

Closer to the city, if that’s ok.

But Mamma, can you hear me?

As I dragged on my day’s last cigarette

He pulled me so hard off my

    Very own back door steps

And he laid me in his garden

All the years I’ve watched him tend

And then he took me, Mamma

So I could never tell you about it.

    Inside of this moment

There are things I wish I could know

Like my ring size, your ring size,

And the hour I was born

My dad’s middle name, your favorite song

Was your darkest day as dark as this one?

    Mamma, can you hear me?

As I dragged on my day’s last cigarette

He pulled me so hard off my

    Very own back door steps

And he laid me in his garden

All the years I’ve watched him tend

    He took me, Mamma

So I could never tell you about it

Now I’m a girl whose face they’ll never forget
