    Re: Hockey 2006-2007

I'm a Habs fan, and I have tickets to see the Habs vs. Sabres in Buffalo on March 2.  Since it's impossible to get tickets to see the Habs vs. the Leafs at the ACC, I have been going to Buffalo for the last 11 seasons to see my team... that is, when I am not making the trek to Montreal to see them, which I won't be able to do this season.

    Re: Hockey 2006-2007

Sorry it has taking me sooooo long to reply.  The game last Saturday night was great even if they lost in the shoot out.  The air was filled with hope of Stanley.  The build up in introducing the team was moving especially when Koivu and Carbonneau hit the ice.

You guessed it, the Canadians is my team too.  Maybe we should start a thread just for our team!!

Send me a PM if you are ever in Montreal. I can get a discount off the boutique.

    Go HABS Go!

Well, being an Oilers fan since I was practically a fetus and with the revitalization of the team last season, I'm very excited about them this year.  I think they have a lot of depth in players like Ryan Smyth (who scored 5 goals in his last 2 games), Joeffrey Lupul, Fernando Pisani, and Dwayne Roloson...to name a few.  Who needs Chris Pronger?  They're doing just fine without him!

I know it's just the begining of the season but after Tuesday night's game and the win, cars were honking their horns everywhere downtown. What a hockey town!

On another sports note, today I saw a young man (pre-teen) wear a baseball cap..........from the A's.  It's a sad state of affairs when a kid from Montreal goes to a US team.  I miss the Expo's.

Personally, I've always thought that just because you live in a certain area, it doesn't mean that you have to root for the local team. Plus given the way the Expos head honchos really screwed up the situation....maybe if that strike never happened back in the mid-90's, maybe they'd still be there in Montreal...

Exactly!  Otherwise, I'd be a Leafs fan!  It's also easier nowadays with the Internet and tv packages such as NHL Centre Ice.  I can be a fan of any team I want and be able to see all of their games, which is pretty cool.Yes
So with that said... GO HABS GO!

    Re: Hockey 2006-2007

Jeffrey Loria had an alternative plan all along.  There were several serious business men and groups interested in investing in the Expo's team.  We now know that he kept sabotaging any progress.  He got what he wanted. Move the team. However, to another location that is worse off if that's possible. (Chunks of the Olympic Stadium falling, lack of corporate money etc....).

I agree you should follow whatever team you want.  It's just sad that the Spo's are no longer an option.  They were named after the 1967 World fair held in
Montreal.  A part of history put to bed. I also agree that in leading the league prior to the strike, they could have gone all the way.

Back to Hockey, last night's game was to add to the books for me personally.  We were wondering what the crowd's reaction would be to
Colorado's goalie Jose Theodore playing his 1st game against the Habs in Montreal after being traded last year.  A few boo's ( Montreal does have a love-hate relationship with players of any sport) at his intro along with other ex-team members but once the Habs started scoring it really got out of hand.  Early in the game the guy/girl who plays the music clips during games got in on messing with his mind by playing Paris Hilton's single out this summer.  Not many Quebecers around me seemed to get it. (Her music is mostly played on English stations in Mtl).  I almost had an accident I laughed so much.  I totally forgot about the song.  Boy, we really wanted that game and got it too! 8 to 5, sound more like a baseball score to me.  Every move on the ice had an expression attached to it.  It was really an exciting game.

Looking forward to tomorrow night's game.

    Beep, beep.  Hoonnnnnnkkkkkkk Yahhooo!

Tonight's win over Ottawa made up for the embarassing (51-22 shots - 7 shut out attempts) loss Saturday against Tronna. At least the Als won!

The Russian connection is looking good.

That was sweet!!  Ever since the olympic break last year, Chris Higgins is really turning into quite the player.  You're right, the Russians are playing great as well!

I received the Habs calendar-magnet - thank you so very much W&T!!!

    Cheers,

    Re: Hockey 2006-2007

Ok, did anyone see the highlights of the Oilers loss on Friday?  They scored to tie the game with about 4sec left, but then referee Mick McGeough called it back because allegedly Shawn Horcoff 'gloved' the puck out of the face off!  I've seen numerous replays of that face off and his hand never left his stick, let alone got close enough to touch the puck!  Of course, now there's nothing that can be done to take it back and Mick does admit that he made a mistake, but it just makes me so angry.Angry

    Rant over...for now.
