Here's a little good news: Ron is very worth seeing. It will be the perfect solace for that post-Greg, post-Jim tour let-down that I just feel may be a very real possibility.

Re: Ron Sexsmith on Tour - Attention Brits, fellow Irish and Western Canadians and the rest of us!
I was going to edit my post to mention fellow English also since I have English roots as well as Irish however: the time limit for editing has expired. I also wanted to remind everyone (as a public service of course), that Ron will be back on good old Canadian soil soon and I highly recommend seeing him at one of these dates out West or in Ontario in December.

Re: Ron Sexsmith on Tour - Attention Brits, fellow Irish and Western Canadians and the rest of us!
I know that the good people of Montreal are very excited about tonight's Jim Cuddy Band show (no names DianneM, Gobo, W&T, Try Montreal, Lori, etc. etc.) , but I just wanted to point out that Ron Sexsmith is playing in your fair town on the 25th and he might be just the ticket to get you through that post-JCB concert let-down that you will no doubt be feeling since BR and JCB play there so seldomly. Ron is at the Outremont Theatre on Saturday and I think there are still tickets available. Or you could just hop on the 401 and go see JCB again. It's only six hours or so by car. You know...just trying to think reasonably and rationally. Ron is like an on a day.

Re: Ron Sexsmith on Tour - Attention Brits, fellow Irish and Western Canadians and the rest of us!
I am happy to say I was able to catch Ron Sexsmith's show last night at the Vancouver East Cultural Centre. It was fantastic. We arrived an hour before the show and were surprised to find an enormous crowd waiting to get in. It seems the tickets said the doors opened at 7:00 when in fact they weren't opening until 7:30. It was worth the wait. Jill Barber opened and was very enjoyable. I had only heard of her from the board but had not heard any of her music. She has a wonderful voice and was very entertaining. The audience was very appreciative of Ron's music. I am not sure if the show was sold out but if not it was close to it. I don't know his music well enough to provide a set list of any sort but I enjoyed it all. Last night was the second show in Vancouver and he apparently did a completely new set list in case there were any repeat customers. Are you listening Blue Rodeo? I am wondering if any of you can help me figure out the name of the song that closed the show. It was really beautiful. It was about how God loves everyone and that everyone gets into heaven regardless of faith etc. and that hell doesn't exist after you die but only when you're alive. I am not doing it justice but it is a really lovely song. If anyone knows the name please let me know. Thanks.

Hazy- The name of the Ron song you are talking about is indeed called "God Loves Everyone" ...it's from his cd 'Cobblestone Runway' from 2002. He has so many lovely songs. We're seeing him in Wpg next Saturday! He's an amazingly talented, nice guy.

Thank you so much Bluestar. I have to pick that cd up. I can't get that song out of my mind. I agree with you about his talent. He really is quite remarkable although he doesn't seem to even know it. He seems surprised that people show up to listen to his music. Great night. Have fun next weekend - I know it will be a great night of music.

Re: Ron Sexsmith on Tour - Attention Brits, fellow Irish and Western Canadians and the rest of us!
I found the lyrics to God Loves Everyone on Ron Sexsmith's site. It is such a lovely song I thought I would post them. Thanks again for letting me know the name of the song Bluestar. I knew someone on the board would be able to help me out. GOD LOVES EVERYONE | God loves everyone Like a mother loves her son No strings at all Unconditional Never one to judge Would never hold a grudge 'Bout what's been done God loves everyone There are no gates in heaven Everyone gets in Queer or straight Souls of every faith Hell is in our minds Hell is in this life But when it's gone God takes everyon Its love is like a womb It’s like the air from room to room It surrounds us all The living and the dead May we never lose the thread That bound us all The killer in his cell The atheist as well The pure of heart And the wild at heart Are all worthy of its grace It's written in the face Of everyone God loves everyone There's no need to be saved No need to be afraid Cause when it’s done God takes everyone God loves everyone |

Re: Ron Sexsmith on Tour - Attention Brits, fellow Irish and Western Canadians and the rest of us!
Torri, I'm glad to see you enjoyed Ron's show. Ron is a great show. It's so neat he changed his setlist each night. That was very considerate of him. Was the whole band there or just Ron? His lyrics are incredible. Poetry and grace.

Re: Ron Sexsmith on Tour - Attention Brits, fellow Irish and Western Canadians and the rest of us!
This has reminded me that it is not necessary for people in Southern Ontario to wait until May 4, 2007 to see Ron Sexsmith at Massey Hall because he is playing at Guelph's RiverRun Centre this coming Sunday Dec. 10 and at Brock on Dec 13th and there are still lots of good seats left! Amazing but true.

It was the full band Ann. They were terrific too. Really enjoyable evening.

Those Guelph tickets are starting to melt away. The link up at the top of the thread allows you to see which seats are available still. That is kind of a neat feature.

Re: Ron Sexsmith on Tour - Attention American Boardies
Just thought I'd let you know about the upcoming US leg of Ron's CD release tour for his latest CD Time Being. It is being released in the States with a different cover on Tuesday the 8th and he is beginning the tour in Buffalo that day. Really, I can't say enough good things about Ron and his singing/songwriting to do my feelings justice so I will suffice it to say - go see Ron Sexsmith. It's also Ron's birthday on the 8th so be ready to sing happy birthday. Here's his tour schedule: (note that the Toronto show in May is listed also - you may want to snap up some tickets before it's too late)
