    Better Late than Never

I just got "Aphrodite Rose" this past Tuesday... & I must say, I was more than pleasantly surprised at how listeneable this record is... This record is one of the best of '06... The production is clean and uncluttered. It almost sounds as though it was cut live in the studio... The music has a 60s/70s type psychodelic retro rock feel to it. I think my favorite track on the album is "If You Go"... I think this ballad gives Cuddy a good run for his money in writing about the affairs of the heart. I think it is a shame that such a great record was ignored by JUNO voters. I dont know how much airplay it received in Canada. I know that I heard the title track once on WXPN in Philly....& that was it.... Sad indeed.... Greg shoud be very proud & pleased. This is a great record... Congratulations Greg

For sure it's better late than never. It's an awesome cd and I don't understand why Greg wasn't nominated for a Juno. Well I kind of do, he didn't get the airplay that Jim did.  But I could be wrong about that cause I barely listen to the radio these days. And this cd is one of the cd's I have in constant rotation at my houseBig Smile  I love all the songsBig Smile

    Re: Better Late than Never

I have just become familiar with it in the last week too Dan after a fellow boardie emailed me some downloads from it and will eventually buy it to support Greg. It's absolutely beautiful! Sadly, the Juno's and all music award shows, are based on record sales. No air play. No record sales. It makes me sad that it wasn't played more on the radio. It surely deserves to be nominated, as much as any other of the nominations.

It really is a wonderful piece of work. Greg definitely deserves a Juno nomination for it but his fans know he does & I guess that counts for something. If you ever get a chance to see him perform "Aphrodite Rose" live, it is awesome!!

    Re: Better Late than Never

Dan I am so glad you've got Aphrodite Rose.  I nearly wore out my copy when I first got it.  I LOVE this cd.  The live shows were fabulous.  Better late than never is right.  Enjoy.

As for the Junos I would love to see Greg win one or even be nominated but my guess is it is not important to him.  He knows they aren't awarded by quality but rather record sales etc.  He doesn't seem to be the kind of guy who makes music for awards.  My guess is the average Canadian probably knew Jim Cuddy had a solo cd out because Jim did a lot of press.  I suspect the average Canadian would be surprised to know Greg Keelor had a solo cd out too.

Greg Keelor met Jim Cuddy and then I met you people. Serendipity is a marvellous thing.

I agree totally. The album is wonderful!!! High Meadow is probably my favourite song right now.

You would have loved the live version!  They made it very upbeat - similar to Cynthia.

I would have loved to see it live....I hate being so far away and unable to go to shows  Sad.

I'm so impressed with the whole CD, its such great work, in fact I think I will go put it on now.

    Re: Better Late than Never

Greg's songs, and I had not really noticed it until "Are You Ready"...because I am not as great a fan of the whole psychadelic rock thing (it makes me feel violated and stoned somehow)...even though, I had always blamed Cuddy for the actual guitar interuptions...

...in "Are You Ready" I finally got to recognise the differences between a Cuddy song and a Keelor song...by spending a great deal of time with the album (in the here and now)...which was easy to do because EVERY song on the album was easy to listen to...

...There seems to be some departure on this album (I have not yet had the priveledge to partake in one of Greg's solo efforts) from Greg's heavier psychadelic rock syle (but yet...AFTER owning this album for awhile, I went BACK in TIME and finally picked up a copy of "Outskirts"...because the song "Rose Coloured Glasses" had somehow put my "back up" against Greg...many, many years ago....when I was a young, optimistic new French teacher in Labrador City...

After hearing the poignancy of his offerings in "Are You Ready" I feared I had misjudged him...and went back....to find some REALLY great material of his...with a little less heavy guitar present...

He is amazing...he writes wonderfully poignant, achingly achy lyrics, and sings them in such a varied manner (one minute carelessly...you almost want to brush his hair back from his brow to see his eyes..and the next he is upbeat and rhythmic, making us and the song dance to its own magical melody....

...luckily for him...he did not become a sex symbol to me too early on in his career...so it is really all about the music....

    Rock on Greg...

(hey man?...its all about your hair...you've got everything else "on the go")...

    Re: Better Late than Never

Nobody on here should feel too upset or disappointed in the fact that Greg didn't win or get nominated for a Juno, the Junos are completely set up to a point of annoyance, though I congradulate Jim on his win and have to say that Pull Me Through is way better than Nelly's songSleep
