Support the troops, CanCon in Afghanistan!!
Hello, I'm a Canadian soldier currently serving in
Kandahar Afghanistan. I love to listen to Blue Rodeo when away
from home, cause it makes me feel at home along with alot of other
Canadians here with me. Once every tour a concert is held in
Kandahar Air Field where mostly all the colation forces troops call
"home". This concert is called CanCon, it's normally comprised of
a Canadian band who plays for the night giving us troops some time to
kick back and relax while listening to some great Canadian music.
I thought for this tour Blue Rodeo could come and play in Afghanistan
because they are Canadian and they are great song artists. The
best I could do is put the word out and eventually(hopefully) get a
hold of someone who may have some ties with Blue Rodeo, so I can get
the ball rolling. I want to know if anyone has any idea's on who
I can talk to or how else to make this known? Thank you alot for
any replys! One of your own,
Cpl. D.

Re: Support the troops, CanCon in Afghanistan!!
I agree with what was said above and you may depend that there are others here thatwant you to feel more than welcome to post here and that your efforts are appreciated. On another thread, I copied what was written by a cpl D. Land where he referred to a show called TPB. In the end, the guys benefitted from some fans sending episodes on d.v.ds to Canada House in Khandahar. Maybe we could do the same and send a collection of BR c.d.s and their dvd out to you all? If anyone wants to start that project, I'll be more than happy to contribute to its success.
To be or not to be is NOT the question! Rather, is it your will to be here, or to be elsewhere?

Hey, maybe the cpl. D letter that you copied to another thread is the same cpl. D from this thread! If so, sounds as though this person is working hard to get some of our Canadian entertainers over there to help raise the spirits of our troops! Can you imagine having the Trailer Park Boys over there? OMG, that would be a riot! I don't know how I can help, but if anyone has any suggestions, just let me know and I'll help out in whatever way I can.

I'm in for any help that may be needed as well, even if it's just a donation to help out.

Re: Support the troops, CanCon in Afghanistan!!
Hello again! I want to thank everyone who replied to my
post, I can see the support for us is strong and theres no other
feeling than that of your country men and women standing behind
you. As for the concert here, maybe it will happen if the word
gets around, maybe it wont. The shows on DVD would be a great
thing to have cause then I could leave it here at Camp Nathan Smith
where the Provincial Reconstruction Team lives and I can leave one at
the Canada House in Kanahar Airfield. That way any troop who want
to see it can just go pick it up watch it and bring it back. Let
me know how we can get in touch, or if there are any more ideas! Thank
all of you alot! Cpl. D. KC

Re: Support the troops, CanCon in Afghanistan!!
Hey Cpl D. Okay. What I sugggest is that you contact one of us in a P.M. with your private addy and tells us how to get the stuff out to you all in Canada house at Khandahar, or wherever. Then, we'll figure out the rest and do what we can via this board. Don't worry buddy. People here are a very caring group and you wont be disappointed. Take care!

Re: Support the troops, CanCon in Afghanistan!!
Ummmm ... Support the troops? Sure, you betcha: Bring em' home! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CROgpqIPvUk Come catch a Blue Rodeo show back here in Canada. It would naturally be the safest, easist, most enjoyable & realistic. As history has shown time & time again, foreign occupation & overseas imperial crusades are really lame.. CANADA CONNED.
The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side. Hunter S. Thompson http://www.jambc.com

Common sense will tell you that Cpl. D. would probably much rather see a Blue Rodeo concert in his/her home country.
