Exactly.  Thank you Bluegirl.  This is not a political thread.

Come catch a Blue Rodeo show back here in Canada.  It would naturally be the safest, easist, most enjoyable & realistic.

As history has shown time & time again, foreign occupation & overseas imperial crusades are really lame..

That is just sick, rude and completely unnecessary.

What bothers me about people like JohnnyCanuck is that new people visiting the board might read his posts and think that he's a regular board member instead of the troll he really is.

Not to shoot you down Johnny Canuck, but I agree with he spirit of what Bluegirl said.

Here's a direct quote, which was taken from a TPB website, from another Cpl. (J. Land wrongly referred to, by me, above as Cpl. D. Land ) about your view on troops and coming home:

    hi everyone!
    this is james
id really love to thank everyone for thier support
it means so much to the troops and myself
im at home in edmonton till the 26th dec and then back in afghanistan till who knows when

id like to reply to bigbenjamins statement, and its not meant to be derogitory in any way..

the taliban doesnt care about your views and will behead you just the same, because your from the west
they believe that when they kill a westerner they will go straight to heaven and allah will grant them 72 virgins
if thats the twisted type of women killing mentality you want floating around the world gaining power, then..power to you

but when you say things like that you are inadvertedly discracing the families of those who died there protecting this GREAT country of ours

no one, and i mean no one loves and wants peace more than a soldier,

    sorry if i offended anyone

    Trailer park boys rule!!!!

thanks again to everyone for thier support

    James

The easiest way to deal with a mindless troll, is to ignore them!

Cpl D - God Bless you and the rest of our troops.  We know there is no place you'd rather be than home!  God bless you for serving.  Stay safe, and I hope you a great show at CANCON this year!

Cpl D: I hope you will accept gratitude and well wishes from an American. Thank you for your service and your willingness to give of yourself to protect us all. It is my sincere wish that you and your fellow soldiers stay safe and come home soon to enjoy the freedoms you help to safeguard and so richly deserve to take advantage of. I hope you get your wish for a Blue Rodeo show where you are, or wherever you may be in the future.

Hi Cpl. D... I hope you do get your wish and that Blue Rodeo will go over to Afghanistan and play for you.  I saw the show "Stand Up For Kandahar" on the CBC a couple of days after you started your thread.  Although the stand up comics were good and made me laugh, what warmed my heart was to see the faces of the soldiers in the audience.  Don't know if you were there, Cpl. D.  The soldiers were so happy that a piece of Canada had come to Kandahar.  It gave the troops a real boost.

Here's a prayer for all our brave soldiers over there... hope you come back safe and sound.

What gives?  I stand by what i said ( i.e. if we really want to support our nation's troops we'll demand they be brought home ).

Did anyone actually watch the video?  Here, i'll share it again for your viewing pleasure.

Protect Canada?  Yes, and this of course is BEST DONE on Canadian soil.  Enuff of the mindless PC crap.

As it is this bloody overseas crusade is ultimately not doing a single average person any good.

For the record, i hope all Blue Rodeo fans serving in the forces overseas will eventually make it through their adventurous ordeal & safely return to the west where they can catch an entertaining live show or two, in relative happiness & peace.

Who in their right mind wouldn't rather see our soldiers back on Canadian soil? That isn't the point. The point is that they are are where they are right now and they need all the support they can get. If you coming into a thread spouting negativity is your way of giving support, then I really feel sorry for you.

Oh, and I can guarantee you that at least 2 of the people who posted in this thread are definitely not PC supporters. I can just see them chuckling now!

Re: Support the troops, CanCon in Afghanistan!!

Well Johnny, I don't know if you meant Politically Correct, or Prog. Cons. but if it's the former I believe that I just may be one of those two referred to by Bluegirl in her post above.

To be fair, I went to that link you suggested and listened to that youtube.com tune by Springsteen. Don't get how that applies here. He is American and, if not mistaken, he is referring to their soldiers in Iraq, not our Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan. Okay, you might say that it's basically the same and I disagree but who are you, or we for that matter, to go against what the troops themselves feel about it all.

I agree totally with Bluegirl in that your negativity is hardly support. As I showed above, these guys feel that what they are doing is important as a preventative measure. Remember WW II was just somebody else's war according to many, until it became painfully obvious that it had to be confronted or else you and I would probably be unable today to say what we think openly, without fear of reprisal, in a free country.

Our soldiers seem to see that and are doing their best with, IMHO, insufficient support be it monetary, equipment orienatated, or the general public and it must be a tough to continue, but they do--for all of us!

So, if you disagree, then start a thread in the general discussion area and people can say what they will about it because, thanks to those very troops who not only talk but walk the walk, ours is a free country.

Re: Support the troops, CanCon in Afghanistan!!

I have come to my own conclusion that the only people who can truly support the troops 100% are those who have the ability to be appear neutral about the politics of an armed conflict. I came to ths conclusion when I was watching a grandma at Walter Reed talking about taking care of her wounded Marine grandson. The hateful propaganda that is so prevalent, that if you do not support the policy of a government that you cannot possibly support the troops is unfair and dangerous. And the reverse is true, too. The poor soldiers are not only caught between flying bullets, but are caught between the politics of thier country, too. It's important for me to remember that our fighting men and women are first trying to take care of each other and obey thier lawful orders. I know there are those who carry out that duty every day, yet they themselves have differing opinions on the poicies of thier government.

It's a little known fact, but it was the GIs who ultimately shut down the Vietnam War.

There's nothing the military hates more than a widespread mutiny. And that's exactly what they were facing in the latter half of the war. Many informed analysts believe this was the true cause of the US withdrawal from Vietnam.

You have no right to promote that type of thinking. Are you a soldier???? If not and you feel this is how to make your beliefs happen, then go ENLIST and do YOUR thing, dollars to donuts you will not be well received. YOU have that right, and the fine men and women who are serving have THEIR RIGHTS as well, and YOU DON"T have the RIGHT to SCHITT on them for it!  Your lack of respect is disgusting.

No one more than me would like to see peace reign throughout the whole world, but I know that people like YOU will forever stand in the way of that ideal.

and once again, since you seem to be rather thick, start a thread in a more appropriate place to view your ideas, this is not the one to do it in.
