I say bring it back! I'd be more than willing to pay a modest yearly fee that would give me access to pre-sale tickets and other perks, like perhaps a "members only" area of the discussion board, contests, memorabilia, etc. This may make me unpopular among the masses, but I'm going to speak my mind regardless. I don't think the site would have experienced as many problems as it had today if every Tom, D-i-c-k and Harry didn't have access to these pre-sales. In my opinion, the pre-sales should be a "perk" offered to the members of the BlueRodeo.Com community. I don't think it's right that people sign up the day before the pre-sale, get their tickets and then we never hear from them again. Make it fair for everyone. You want in on the pre-sales, then buy a fan club membership.

I don't agree with having to buy a membership at all & to be honest I find it offensive that I would have to pay extra to get pre-sale tickets. In my opinion the problem is the advertising. Post it on the website and leave it at that. The people who care will check it out. Don't let everyone in the world know. If you care enough to check out the band's site you will know about the presale.
Greg Keelor met Jim Cuddy and then I met you people. Serendipity is a marvellous thing. "I guess I don't know if I believe in God but I know a song can make you feel good once in a while." ~Greg Keelor~

I say post the presale announcement on the board 1 week in advance of tickets sales. Do not e-amil the idea to the masses. Then, let the board readers take first shot at the tickets. That evening, e-mail the masses for the remaining tickets. If the membership idea is the only way we can limit the ticket sales, then I will support the idea. But, only as a last resort. After some thought, I agree with Torri that we shouldn't have to pay. Seems the idea above would solve all our concerns. Fan club rules would have to be strict like they are for other bands where you need to be a member for at least 1 year before you can grab presale tickets. Otherwise, most people will sign up for the club the night before and we are right back to where we started. Also, remember that a lot of fan clubs will limit you to 2 tickets max. That would upset a lot of people (although I've said all along it should be capped at 3 tix max).

I do not disagree, although 1 year seems a little harsh to me. If the side benefit is to get more people to participate in the board, and discussions, then really you are discouraging people from wanting to be a part of the whole environment and community. The way event tickets have been going on sale around here the last 12 months, between BR and all the side / solo projects, lots of people would not have had the chance to get any of those tickets. Not to mention, that is very discouraging to people who just discovered the band, to know they have to wait that long to try to get decent tickets for the show. Sure, membership (however you want to define it) should have its privileges. But we should not be pushing away or discouraging real fans either. I have no problem with someone needing to be a board member for 30 or 60 days before a sale is announced to partake in that presale. And as a side note, I would be willing to pay for a membership if there were tangible benefits - ie: free exclusive items / tracks or a break on service charges if purchased through br.com.

katiescarlet:II agree with Lori, what would be really nice is if they let the longest members have the first shot.

Not quite sure I agree. I think there should be a criteria as to how you qualify (however you want to define that), but anyone who qualifies should have an equal shot. Another consideration is that not only does it need to be a fair process, but a manageable one, too.

I don't know if paying a membership fee would keep scalpers away. I'm sure they wouldn't mind paying a fee considering all the profits they make on their tickets re-sales. I would go for advising the pre-sales on this site two weeks ahead of time with no other form of advertising them to the masses. If you are a true fan of this band, you at least check this board once every two weeks and the real die-hard fans do so almost every day! By the way Sammie, I love your new L. Roberts signature line! hee! hee!
