Very cool...I like that idea. But if you all could remind me closer to the date...I have no functioning brain cells left and tend to forget things easily...not drugs...kids.

Apparently the ENTIRE universe is warming. This includes ice melting on MARS. Why? Earth industry? Too many cows farting? No, likely not. If the PTB were sincere & genuinely committed to helping the environment we would have seen alternative energies & technologies including e.g. HEMP reinstituted / adopted long ago. Criminal politicians are all over this one as it serves to promote a broader agenda http://www.redicecreations.com/ http://www.cuttingthroughthematrix.com/

Electric cars allowed on Québec roads The ZENN (zero emission no noise) car is now allowed on certain Québec roads, along with the NEMO. See here for story: http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/story/CTVNews/20080618/AUTOS_zenn_080618/20080618?hub=TopStories For the naysayers, just let me say this: more electric cars in cities decreases the pollution. Don't care about pollution? How about the difference in your pocketbook? You will then counter with "you're spewing more emissions into the air because you are using more electricity from coal-burning generators." Not so if I had an electric car in Ontario, because my source of electricity is green, thanks to bullfrog power (now available in Alberta too). No matter how you slice it, this is a BIG step forward. And can only lead to folks asking for and supporting greener technologies.

I think anything that cuts the use of oil is a good thing, I'm still hoping for the hydrogen conversion on my car. finger's crossed.

Re: An Inconvenient Truth - A documentary starring your planet with voiceover and narration by Al Gore
Sorry for being away so long from this thread after starting and all, but GG has been doing such a good job in sticking up for the planet! Just wanted to say that I think it was in that fantabulous documentary DVD Who Killed the Electric Car? (available at a rental store near you), that they mentioned that even if all the cars in North America were electric and fueled by electricity generated by coal fired plants, the amount of carbon emmisions spewing into the air would be far less than it is right now. Which is good news imho. The news in the movie was not so rosy about hydrogen cell fuel. Apparently hydrogen requires alot of processing which is very energy intensive and thus, this form of fuel may not be as eco-friendly as was initially hoped by the interested parties. And then, why not just saw frantically while I'm out on this limb, but as I see it, the rising oil/gas prices are motivating people to buy hybrids and look at alternative fuels. The poor economic outlook in Ontario is prompting support for windfarms since the Great Lakes are an excellent site for such operations due to consistent higher winds than other spots in Ontario. So let's hear it for high gas prices and our weak economy - this situation will take us where we need to go because... money talks.

Re: An Inconvenient Truth - A documentary starring your planet with voiceover and narration by Al Gore
Thank you, Ann ! I have read elsewhere that hydrogen cell fuel technology is not the Holy Grail it is touted to be. Besides folks looking into hybrids and alternative fuels, it is also interesting to note that there have been several recent news articles re: Americans turning to mass transit and cycling to get to work (you can google "news article about americans turning to mass transit due to high gas prices" for the results). Money does talk, and also drives people away from high-priced commodities and to cheaper alternatives. For folks who are vested in carbon energy and think it will never go away, may I suggest you read the book "Salt: A World History" by Mark Kurlansky. Salt used to be the king of commodities, essential to preserving meat until someone invented refrigeration. Something cheaper and more convenient always comes along, due to the human brain's amazing resourcefulness and capacity for invention. Someone always builds a better mouse trap. The oil and coal barons refuse to believe it, but their days are numbered. Monday June 23 marked the 20th anniversay of James Hansen (director of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies) testifying about the threat of climate change at a U.S. Senate committee in 1988, where he warned that the planet was already warming as a result of human activity. Monday, 20 years to the day after his appearance before the Senate committee, Hansen was back on Capitol Hill with a more immediate warning. Emphasizing that safe levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide have already been exceeded, Hansen said, "We have reached a point of planetary emergency." Don't take my word for it. Read about it here: http://www.thestar.com/comment/article/448661. As well, it seems to be the general feeling among naysayers that people like Ann and myself are out to "screw everybody across the country". I would include Jenn in this, but the person who uttered these words is a Canadian, to wit, none other than the Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper. Ann, our intentions have been exposed by the Prime Minister himself. I think we may be under RCMP surveillance

Re: An Inconvenient Truth - A documentary starring your planet with voiceover and narration by Al Gore
...eek.. There is a new hardware/buildall store near my house and they have installed a fairly huge solar panel on its own pole. I'm not sure exactly how it works but it appears to be phototropic - it follows the sun all day. I pointed it out to my daughter and explained what it did and how it generated free electricity, didn't require gas or oil, didn't pollute and gave the store an independent source of electricity when the "power went out". She said: "That's great! Why doesn't everybody have one?!" From the mouths of babes.

Thanks for posting the Time article, Chaps! Where are all those people who usually poo-poo alternate sources of fuel? Not a peep from them! Maybe their time is being used up by walking to and from the store...

Re: An Inconvenient Truth - A documentary starring your planet with voiceover and narration by Al Gore
Speaking of alternate sources of fuel... has anyone else seen what T. Boone Pickens is up to? For folks who are saying "Who's that, and why should I care?", T. Boone Pickens has made his money, at least a billion dollars, in oil. So before you say "There she goes again, another rant against an oilman", please read the next paragraph.
Turns out T. Boone Pickens loves his country, the United States. Nothing wrong with that. I mean the guy really loves his country, so much so that he is willing to spend his money promoting and convincing the next President of the US that alternate energy is a solution to a problem whose time has come. In his commercials on CNN (paid with his own money), he says: "America is in a hole and it's getting
deeper every day. We import 70 percent of our oil at a cost of $700
billion a year - four times the annual cost of the Iraq war. I've been
an oil man all my life, but this is one emergency we can't drill our
way out of. But if we create a new renewable energy network, we can
break our addiction to foreign oil. On January 20, 2009, a new
President gets sworn in. If we're organized, we can convince Congress
to make major changes toward cleaner, cheaper and domestic energy
resources. To get this done, I need your help. Check out the plan. If
you think it's worth fighting for, please join our effort, and
encourage everyone you know to do the same." The plan can be found on his website, www.tboonepickens.com. Again, I want to emphasize that this is not some granola hippie guy like Pete Seeger, nor some lecture-circuit touring guy like Al Gore. This is a guy who knows how to make lots of money, the kind of guy the libertarians, right-wingers and Fox News listeners love. So, dear libertarians, right-wingers and Fox News listeners, why not give him a listen? He is willing to fund an effort to put you, dear patriotic Americans, back on the road to economic recovery. I'd love to know what you think of his plan. DARN! That URL link thing is not working again. Ah well... no matter, I'm sure you will make the effort to copy and paste the URL into your browser!
