Ok, I am NEVER working for a union again. I just found out today that because I started above the union's minimum starting wage, it could take a year and a half to get a raise! I have to work that long to get up to the level of pay which I got right from the start, so the company doesn't HAVE to give me a raise until I've worked enough hours to actually earn the rate I'm at now. It might not make sense, but if I'm understanding it right, then I'm totally getting screwed. My boss is going to double check on the rules and get back to me. No one said anything about this when I started, I just assumed that I would get a raise every 500hrs like I was told, so what else was I supposed to think??? I've decided that I'm not going to stay there any longer no matter what they conclude, partly because of this and partly because I can't handle the constant standing on concrete floors any more. I've got an interview on friday for something else. Wish me luck!! ...oh wait, you can't or you'll be on topic.
