Do you see more Blue Rodeo shows since you've joined this community?

A discussion in another thread about how many Blue Rodeo shows I have attended has me wondering whether other people have had the same experience as me which is to say once I met people on the board I started seeing a lot more Blue Rodeo shows.  I figured I would start a new thread so that thread could stay on topic & because I am curious.

Since the 80s I have always tried to catch Blue Rodeo when they came to Vancouver but that meant I would go to one show when they were in town.  All of that changed once I joined this board & met so many people some of who have become really good friend and some who I see once or twice a year at shows.   I first met friends (English J&K) in October 2002 who were on the board.  I actually met them in person & discovered we were all on the board.  Shortly after that I was stranded at home with an injury for several months & started spending way more time on the board.  Thanks to AG who invited me to chat with her & others on MSN I met some really great people from here and since then the number of shows I attend each year has increased dramatically with lots of road trips and lots of fun.  My first road trip was with my friend Chelan who was a friend who happened to love Blue Rodeo and that was in 2001.  Since then I think I have been to 10 or so different places to see shows.  The fun that happens on these road trips in unbelievable and the shows end up almost being a small part of the trips.  We also tend to go to most Vancouver shows.  I wouldn't change it for the world.

So my question to the rest of you is do you see more shows now that you have met friends who are like minded & don't think it is insane to see the same band several times a year?  As my friend Laurel says nobody thinks it is strange when people have season's tickets for their favourite hockey team but if you see the same band too often people think you're crazy.  Little do they know we're just having the time of our lives.

Greg Keelor met Jim Cuddy and then I met you people. Serendipity is a marvellous thing.

I can definately say I go to more shows now, now that I have met the people I have. I had been to 4 BR shows between 92-95.  I joined this community in 2002 and I think I'm sitting somewhere between 20-30 shows since then.  I'm also having the time of my life.  There is no better get away then being with your favorite Sistas enjoying your favorite band.

I've always related it to the golfer who needs to golf everyday, or play a new coarse everyweek or book holidays around golf coarses.  I don't think they are wacked I think they just enjoy golf and what joy it brings their life.   I think for myself being able to do the trips I have has made my life alot more enjoyable, I'm a happier person, I enjoy my family more because I get my time away, oh and I am alot more outgoing then I ever was (I really was very shy), I enjoy people more.....I mean I could go on and on about what this has done for my life.

I can't wait to see where BR leads us to next!!!

Most definitely, the number of BR shows I attended each year jumped way up after joining the DB. Once I met people here, the shows became just an 'excuse' to get together with them! We never would have made our trip to Inverness in Cape Breton & met up with fellow board members, without that Blue Rodeo show as the catalyst. But what a wonderful holiday that was!!

I find that I am doing less BR shows now though, as the friendships have become truer & deeper & my musical tastes have expanded. Now we may get together to see other artists besides BR, or simply to enjoy each others company.

And AG, I was very much like you when I joined here in 2000. The changes in my life are quite amazing to me. With apologies to Greg: Music "It makes me wonder, it makes me smile....."Music

    Interesting topic!

Not only did I start going to more Blue Rodeo shows when I joined the board, but I started attending more concerts in general.

The very first show I attended with a fellow board member was a Jim Cuddy Band show in the fall of 1999 with Allison at Barrymore's in Ottawa. The rest is history. I won't even try to count the number of shows I've been to since then. I should one day...

All I can say is that I never thought that this would be the place I'd end meeting the people who would come to be my closest, dearest friends. It's weird how things work out that way...

Well this community keeps me on top of when they are coming to town. It's not like there is a lot of advertising stateside. Plus I've travelled now to see them mostly because of friends I have made here. So all tolled I have to answer with a wide-grinned yes.

I'm working on it. I have D&D hook a finger in each side of my mouth and pull - that way I can stretch out my grin.

I didn't see anything past April on the Events calendar when I last checked. Tongue Tied

We wouldn't hold out of you guys. Smile  There were a couple of interviews where Jim mentioned they are going to do some western US shows in May which he also confirmed when we saw him in Vancouver. Personally I am not getting too worked up about it until I see actual dates since they have been talking about doing western US shows for five years. Underground if you're reading this Jim did say they would be going to Portland.

I did see mention of US dates in May, Torri, now that you mention it, but personally I was hoping they were going to include something in the Eastern US, too!

    Eh, Ray?! Big Smile

It must be tough waiting for the eastern dates.   After all they haven't been there since OCTOBER!!!!  [SEG]
