Hi guys!
I pîcked up Bazil's cd, Matinee, at the Ottawa show. It was actually a bit funny. I went up to the merch table and said, "Do you have Bazil's cd?" and when the girl said yes, I said, "And it's 20 bucks, right?" She looked so surprised. She must have thought I was some crazy obsessed fan! lol
So she comes over with the cd and says, "Since you asked for it, can you tell me what it is because none of us know who he is." Well, my jaw just dropped. She was standing there telling me how they sold all kinds of stuff, BR merch and Cuff the Duke. They even had Melissa's cd, but they didn't know who Bazil was. (I enlightened them, of course!)
I just thought that was so weird because I had always assumed that the people at the merch table worked for or were at least fans of the band.
A few years ago we went to a Metallica concert at Scotiabank Place (then, the Corel Center) and a woman walked up to us as we were waiting outside and asked if we would like to help the band out. We of course said yes, and found ourselves inside collecting donations for a wildlife sanctuary. In exchange for donating, people got to enter a draw for back-stage passes. We each got one too, just for helping out. I don't know why, but I always assumed that's the way the merch tables are manned, also. Apparently not, eh? ;)
Back on topic: I really like the CD. There's a text on the inside cover fromm Bazil about how he got into country music, and the songs themselves are great. I like country music all right but I mostly used to listen to it when on long road trips. The country stations always seem to come in clearer out on the road... Anyway, I don't know many country songs, so this is a nice collection. I do like Little Ole Wine Drinker, Me and Streets of Baltimore as well. Great CD all around. Nice little bonus to have Stage Door on it as well. :o) Whoever gets a chance, pick it up at the next show! :)
Love and understanding are the best answers I've heard yet.
