    Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

I was listening to the radio today (Q107 in Calgary) as I was scurrying around trying to get everything done and the morning show hosts were speculating about a "big-name rock act" that was rumoured to be making a stop here in the summer. I had heard mutterings a few months ago that he would be touring this year so I checked it out when I got home and....

It's true. Pretty huge tour. Four Canadian dates.

May 31- The Palace of Auburn Hills, Auburn Hills, MI
June 03- Air Canada Centre, Toronto, ON

July 12- Walnut Creek Amphitheatre, Raleigh, NC

July 20- Quest Center Omaha, Omaha, NE
July 22- Sprint Center, Kansas City, MO
July 23- Target Center, Minneapolis, MN
August 07- Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, Maryland Heights, MO
August 09- MTS Centre, Winnipeg, MB
August 11- Pengrowth Saddledome, Calgary, AB
August 12- Rexall Place, Edmonton, AB

August 15- The Gorge, George, WA
August 16- The Gorge, George, WA
August 20- Jobing.com Arena, Glendale, AZ
August 22- Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, Irvine, CA
August 23- TBD, San Francisco, CA
August 26- Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, Selma, TX
August 27- American Airlines Center, Dallas, TX
August 29- Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, Woodlands, TX

I saw him *years* ago at the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver and it was a phenomenal show. I would love, love, LOVE to see them play the Gorge in Washington (big ol' outdoor amphitheatre) but I'm going to have to settle for the Saddledome. I think I can deal with that (grin).

Surprised they're not playing GM Place in Vancouver. My sister's gonna be ticked!

Have all the dates been announced? They usually do Vancouver, sooner or later in the tour.

If not, they're doing the SuperBowl half-time show on Sunday.

I don't know if that's the entire tour or not. That's all that was up on tompetty.com. I was really surprised to NOT see Vancouver on the list, especially with Winnipeg, Calgary and Edmonton on it.

Seeing Tom Petty live is one of my dream concerts.  We have one of his concerts and it's AMAZING.  He must put on a hell of a show.  Thanks for posting the dates... some food for thought!!  Maybe plan a vacation around a concert this summer?

Re: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

I've seen Tom Petty anytime he came to my town, whichever town it was. (Except for the early club dates. I was too young to go.)

He puts on a good show. My favorite was the one he did with Dylan around 1986. That show thundered.

My dream show is one on his home ground, maybe LA. His fan base in Canada was fairly small for a long time, so sometimes there was a sense of isolation. A hometown vibe would be cool.

Thanks so much for the heads up on this one paulakoala, I might have otherwise missed it!!  I joined the fan club ($40) to get first shot a good seats and got 10th row center floors for the ACC!!  And, did you see who's opening?  Steve Winwood!  Talk about a great show.  I'll really be looking forward to this one!!

    You're welcome, Dizzy!

I got row 22 on the floor for Calgary (there are four of us going so that affected my "pull") and row 7 on behalf of my sis and her husband (she has her own fan club membership but she was in school today so I pretended to be her and used her login) at the Gorge in Washington.

I was watching the tickets go onsale across the country and had to stop myself from clicking the button for Toronto.

    Ai yi yi yi yi.......

     Time

24 hours later and my ears are still ringing but boy howdy, do I still have a grin on my face. Almost as big as the grin I wore (for a week!) after meeting Jim at the Calgary FolkFest a few weeks ago. TPATH were just SMOKIN' last night. Stunning light show, blistering music....
