    Glen...and a drumming question.

Watching Glen on this recent tour with the only tool he has in the opening set is one tiny little snare drum, I have got to wonder is it harder for a drummer or easier to have just one drum like that?

My guess is that it is much harder getting the different sounds and rythmns for the ride range of tunes of Blue Rodeo.    But I sure would like to get a drummer's opinion.

    Hi Joanne!

I'm not a drummer, but I play one on tv!

...sorry, couldn't resist! :p Let's try this again... I have a friend who is a drummer and passed your question along to him. Here is what he replied:

    Bonjour, ma chère!

It always depends on context, right?  For Glenn Milchem (i'm guessing that this whom we're talking about ...?), what is important is not so much the different sounds of the traps, but rather how to bring out the sounds of the band by adding a little rhythmic spice to it and not to take over.  He and the bass player (Bazil) form the backbone of the band's sound.  The style in which they play proves to be simple, yet solid country / rock with excellent vocals (NOT to be covered up by a lot of instrumentation.  They are true musicians who aim to get a good band sound!!

    Voilà!!

Well, I'm not the bigegst on drums in the world, But I have played it in school before. And from my expreience, I find it easier to play just the snare or just the base.. But it could be different for somone whos specialized in drums.

Hope that helps - Josh Dwyer

Thanks for your answers!  Considering what your friend said Eniko I would think it woudl be harder to achieve that with just a snare...every concert Glen amazes me.

I can't wait to see him live again, Joanne!

There is something that I actually have forgotten, but have now been reminded after having read my friend Al's response: at the Outskirts and DM shows (the only shows where I was close enough to actually see this), Bazil and Cleave, and then Mark, were always visibly very much in communication during the whole show. It's something to be on the lookout for at the next concert. (Ottawa, did I mention? :D:D:D:D:D)
