It was a dark and stormy night.  Rain fell intermittently in sheets as approaching headlights occasionally lit up the twisting road to Campbellford. (Sound of needle being dragged across a record...)  Perhaps I should speed this up.

What a great show!  The very small and old-style small theatre that is the Aron was a perfect venue in which to see the fabulous Sadies with Greg.  Special guests Ron Sexsmith and Josh Finlayson showed up and sang a song each. Josh sang Some Dark Holler a Mac Weisman cover (thank-you Cowboy Dave for that info) - a gooder very nicely rendered.  Ron sang an Elvis cover Burnin' Love which was a very rockin' tight version.  Ron is in great voice and I'm sure all the people at his two Ottawa shows (the second one is tonight), will be able to attest to that.  Travis had some interesting Edge-like accompaniement on Burnin' Love while Ron strummed and sang on Greg's acoustic.  Travis and all the Sadies looked very happy to see their special guests.  Ron wished Travis a happy birthday and as he left the stage a slightly incredulous Travis said "Ron Sexsmith?!  What's he doing all the way out here?!!"

Greg was on the bill for this show although I don't think it was advertised any further afield than the Campbellford area. Some great sounds were flowing out of Dallas' guitar and Greg encouraged both Travis and Dallas to solo at least twice during Lost Together which was pretty amazing as anyone could imagine.

Nice review. I was also at the show and agree "What a great show!" I even got Greg to sign my Small Miracles CD.

The song that Josh sang was called "Some Dark Holler". It's a very old Mac Weisman song.

Bill (Dragonfly Music) was telling about your pre-show call from Guelph?

I always enjoy your reviews Ann because you really set the mood by painting such a vivid picture for those who couldn't be there.

What a show I missed

WOW, Greg sang from his Aphrodite Rose songs??? NNNOOOO, they're so beautiful yet even more so with The Sadies backing him  And of course Ron being there, that would really be a treat, as we all know that these musicians are just sooooo busy. And, Ron is friends with Travis, so he made time for his friend that's super nice.

I was thinking about this show the whole night, might as well have been there-------I WISH.

Thanks for the review, even though it makes me even more sad that I wasn't able to see it firsthand. Nonetheless, it was an awesome review   Well, all except the rain part LOL---nothing worst than going to a show in an unfamiliar area when the rain is pounding down on your windshield. Glad you made it there.

You know...umm...I got there a bit late due to traffic slowdowns and rain coming into Toronto.  Pray tell, what did Bill say?....exactly....perhaps I could confirm or deny the details LOL!

I never did meet Bill to say a proper thank-you for reserving my ticket under the circumstances.  It was awfully nice of him.

Irene, I feel for you and I know that you would have loved the show.  It would have been great to see you there too.

Ann,

Bill was telling me that he only had three tickets left. While he was on the phone with you (originally asking for two tickets) he had two people in the store at the counter also wanting two tickets. He was afraid that he was going to have to disappoint someone. When you said that your friend had a bad back and couldn't attend and you only needed one ticket everything worked out well.

At the end of the show, Bill and I were standing at the exit wondering which one of the exixting fans was "Ann from Guelph". Of course, we had no way of knowing. If you're ever in C'ford again be sure to stop in at Dragonfly Music.

Bill and I are in a local band called Blue-Eyed Dogs. 

That so great that everything worked out.  I did have a brief chat with the pleasant lady who owns the theatre with her husband.  Too bad I did not get to thank Bill in person.  Campbellford does seem like a place of pleasant people.
