    Oliver Schroer

Late last year, I followed a link from Anne Lindsay's site to the site of another fiddler, Oliver Schroer.

Schroer, it turned out, was awaiting a bone marrow transplant. Although I'd never heard of him, I have a longstanding interest in the bone marrow donor registry, so I followed his case on and off for months. He was that rarest of rare phenomenona, a guy who managed to find an unrelated match. Luck was not with him, however, and his cancer returned before the transplant could be carried out. I found out last night that his doctors have declared him terminal.

Considering I know almost nothing about the guy, I'm kind of bent out of shape about it.

He wrote this amazing letter for his website that I thought I would share. It'll make you think.

    Re: Oliver Schroer

I knew of Oliver Schroer's situation because of Anne Lindsay, but had never had the opportunity to see him perform.

I very much admire his way of viewing life. It is an attitude I've been trying to cultivate lately in my own head. Not aways easy, but reading Oliver's letter puts me a little closer to my goal. Thanx for sharing that with us, snowfalling.

    Wow!!!!

I've not heard of him before, but I have to say after reading that....I think he's an amazing person!!!!

I couldn't agree with him more about focusing on the positive and not dwelling in the negative....and for him to have that perspective in his situation speaks volumes of what an amazing person he must be!!!

I thank you too for sharing that, Snowfalling and I urge our other boardies to take a peek...you definetley will learn something truly inspiring!!!

    Re: Oliver Schroer

Oliver Schroer died on July 3rd.

It was hardly unexpected -- he was clearly winding down.  I popped by his website an hour ago hoping for more ruminations but instead found images of him dancing at his final show. He seems to have gone out in style, with a final concert in June, blogging, and a TStar interview from his hospital bed.
