    Fretboard Dye

    Hey guys,

I'm planning on dying my fretboard and I have a few questions about it first, when you put the dye on does it change the color of the finger markers as well or do they naturally repell it? Another thing is I asked someone in a store about it and he said that the dye can change the sound quality and he suggested not to do it, does anyone know if that's true?

If anyone could help it'd be great,

    yBS

    Re: Fretboard Dye

WHY????? I would never consider dyeing the neck of any of my guitars. And as far as it changing the sound...sure it would. Wood is a living thing and anytime you change the way the wood can breathe, it will change the sound. It will also change the way your neck feels...do you like a slow or fast neck? It will change the feel completely. There are some neck finishes that react to different people's sweat from playing and I can only imagine what a dye could do to it. I would think long and hard before you did it. Not something I would do at all. All of my guitars I chose because I love their sound and their look so I would never want to alter them. Just my two cents worth. Stacey

    Re: Fretboard Dye

My guitar is a Les Paul, the color itself is a dark red, then the fretboard color is a fairly dark brown, I find the two colors collide with each other quite a bit so I wanted to dye it black. The guitar looks really nice when I put Lemon Oil on it now and then but after about a week it goes lighter again. I'm thinking about painting the entire guitar later this year and if that happened then the fretboard would look extremely misplaced so I figured then I'd start with the fretboard and see what happens.
