Re: What Song's Bring You To Tears?????????

Well right now, I would have to say the 2 songs that can bring me to tears would be

The Band "It Makes No Difference" and the other would be Prairie Oyster "Man In The Moon"

Oh Ya and one other BR's "Bad Timing"  and "Is It You"

    WalkingandTalking:

Getting back on track there are some songs that bring me to tears because of the emotions and memories that they bring up.  The first one that comes to mind is from a tape that I got from Texas some 15 years ago.  It's not anything that anyone would know here but I listen to it every once in a while and always has the same reaction.

     W&T

Hey is that the Album Southside with the song I Don't Want A Lover?

     I don't want a lover
    I just need a friend

    You can't just leave me
To face life on my own
I know you don't love me no more
I knew this day it would come
Even when it cuts so deep
It's true I still want you
    But the harder I try
The more I seem to lose

    I don't want a lover
    I just need a friend
    I've had time to recover
Now that I know it wasn't love

    It's always a different story
When it's me who's in the wrong
But you can't have it all
Cause I'm the one who's strong
    I've already been burnt before
    Once but never again
I know the time will come
That's when you need me then

    I don't want a lover
    I just need a friend
    I've had time to recover
Now that I know it wasn't love

    I don't want a lover
    I just need a prayer
    I know you never cared
Now that I know it wasn't love

    You don't even care
    About what I'm saying
    You don't even think
    What you're doing
All you see is what you want it to be
But in there there's just no room for me

    I don't want a lover
    I just need a friend
    I've had time to recover
Now that I know it wasn't love

    You don't even care
    About what I'm saying
    You don't even think
    What you're doing
All you see is what you want it to be
But in there there's just no room for me

    I don't want a lover
    I just need a prayer
    I know you never cared
Now that I know it wasn't love

    I don't want a lover
    I just need a prayer

    I know you never cared
Now that I know it wasn't love

I was in Ireland last year, and heard the music of a guy named Damien Dempsey.  He is a true Dubliner.  There is one song on his cd 'Shots' called 'Colony' that speaks to the awful abuse suffered by the Irish people at the hands of the British...brings me to tears everytime.  He has not come to Canada yet, but I sure hope he does.  Here is a link to his website, check it out, perhaps if enough people hear about him, he'll make it here.  I don't know if you'll find any downloads for this song, but you never know.  Also, 'Good Dog' by Fred Eaglesmith....

CoolFirstly, if I was seeing someone and everytime they came around Birds suddenly appeared,  it would spook the crap outta me (especially if they were Vultures) Secondly, if Birds do appear everytime they come around how many times a day would I have to wash my car? And if they really wanted to write a song about something being close to you , how come they didn't write about having a rash? That would be brilliance if they could pull that one off!

Could the song in question be Alleluia by Leonard Cohen.  It's also sung by K.D. Lang (49th parallel) who does a haunting job and by Rufus Wainwright who also does a great job.

My husband asked our daughter if he was allowed to pick the song that they dance to at the reception. Well, she was more surprised than anything else and said sure. He picked Tim McGraw's song My Little Girl. We were all very surprised, not really the mushy type. Well, they danced to the song and I just stood there and smiled and I was just so touched to see the two of them dancing and you could feel the love. While driving to the grocery store the other day, the song came on the radio and I started to cry!!  Happy memories I guess.

is the fourth song maybe Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley? I've actually never heard it but I've heard it brings people to tears.

I talked to my mom and she said that this is the song.  She also wanted me to make sure that nobody thinks she is weird for picking out her funeral music.  She just wants to make sure that she has good music that she enjoys.  I love my mom!!!

Re: What Songs Bring You To Tears?????????

Well I have my funeral music too.....It's a song from The Lemonheads called "It's a Shame About Ray."

Now back to songs that make you cry. Since tomorrow is American Thanksgiving where we celebrate stealing the land from the indigenous people I offer this song from Loudon Wainwright III

Lord, every year we gather here to eat around this table

Give us the strength to stomach as much as fast as we are able

Bless this food to our use though communication's useless

Don't let me drink too much wine, Lord; you know how I get ruthless

Let us somehow get through this meal without that bad old feeling

With history and memory and home cooking we're dealing

Remind us that we're all grown up -adults -no longer children

Now it's our kids that spill the milk and our turn to want to kill them

I look around and recognize a sister and a brother

We rarely see our parents now; we hardly see each other

On this auspicious occasion, this special family dinner

If I argue with a loved one, Lord, please make me the winner

All this food looks and smells so good but I can hardly taste it

The sense of something has been lost and there's no way to replace it

After the meal switch on the game, there's just a few more seconds

But I'm so tired I need a nap; the guest bedroom bed beckons

I fall asleep, I have a dream, in it is the family

Nothing had has happened yet and every one is happy

Mother and father both still young and naturally they love us

We're all lying on a lawn at night watching the stars above us

Lord, every year we gather here to eat around this table

Give us the strength to stomach as much as fast as we are able

Bless this food to our use though communication's useless

Don't let me drink too much wine, Lord; you know how I get ruthless

Re: What Songs Bring You To Tears?????????

    Funeral For A Friend...er, me...oops...

Well, I have one request and that is that they play a very somber and black (LOL!) song at my wake or whatever, and that is...

    AC/DC
    Back in Black (1980)
You Shook Me All Night Long

    She was a fast machine
    She kept her motor clean
She was the best damn woman I had ever seen
    She had the sightless eyes
    Telling me no lies
Knockin' me out with those American thighs
    Taking more than her share
    Had me fighting for air
She told me to come but I was already there

    'Cause the walls start shaking
    The earth was quaking
    My mind was aching
And we were making it and you -

    Shook me all night long

    Working double time
    On the seduction line
She was one of a kind, she's just mine all mine
    She wanted no applause
    Just another course
Made a meal out of me and came back for more
    Had to cool me down
    To take another round
Now I'm back in the ring to take another swing

    'Cause the walls were shaking
    The earth was quaking
    My mind was aching
And we were making it and you -

    Shook me all night long

Heck, I'll be dead anyway, so why not give the folks who've made the effort to pay their last respects to me a little something to smile about and maybe move their feet to...Devil
