Re: What Songs Bring You To Tears?????????
I first heard this song by Emerson Drive when I was coming home from Cornwall one day. I was crying so hard that I almost had to pull the car over. Moments I was coming to the end of a long long walk When a man crawled out of a cardboard box Under the E. Street Bridge Followed me on to it I went out halfway across With that homeless shadow tagging along So I dug for some change Wouldn't need it anyway He took it lookin' just a bit ashamed He said, You know, I haven't always been this way
I've had my moments, days in the sun Moments I was second to none Moments when I knew I did what I thought I couldn't do Like that plane ride coming home from the war That summer my son was born And memories like a coat so warm A cold wind can't get through Lookin' at me now you might not know it But I've had my moments
I stood there tryin' to find my nerve Wondering if a single soul on Earth Would care at all Miss me when I'm gone That old man just kept hanging around Lookin' at me, lookin' down I think he recognized That look in my eyes Standing with him there I felt ashamed I said, You know, I haven't always felt this way
I've had my moments, days in the sun Moments I was second to none Moments when I knew I did what I thought I couldn't do Like the day I walked away from the wine For a woman who became my wife And a love that, when it was right, Could always see me through Lookin' at me now you might not know it But I've had my moments
I know somewhere 'round a trashcan fire tonight That old man tells his story one more time He says
I've had my moments, days in the sun Moments I was second to none Moments when I knew I did what I thought I couldn't do Like that cool night on the E. Street Bridge When a young man almost ended it I was right there, wasn't scared a bit And I helped to pull him through Lookin' at me now you might not know it Oh, lookin' at me now you might not know it But I've had my moments

Re: What Songs Bring You To Tears?????????
That's a gooder - currently in heavy rotation down here along with this song from Jason Michael Carroll. Alyssa Lies My little girl met a new friend, just the other day, on the playground at school between the tires and the swings
But she came home with tear-filled eyes, and she said to me "Daddy, Alyssa lies"
Well I just brushed it off at first, 'cause I didn't know how much my little girl had been hurt or the things she had seen. I wasn't ready when I said "You can tell me"
and she said...
"Alyssa lies to the classroom, Alyssa lies everyday at school, Alyssa lies to the teachers as she tries to cover every bruise"
My little girl laid her head down that night to go to sleep. As I stepped out the room, I heard her say a prayer so soft and sweet "God bless my mom and my Dad and my new friend, Alyssa *oh*I know she needs you bad
Because Alyssa lies to the classroom, Alyssa lies everyday at school, Alyssa lies to the teachers as she tries to cover every bruise"
(bridge)
I had the worst night of sleep in years as I tried to think of a way to calm her fears I knew just what it was I had to do *I knew exactly what I had to do* but when we got to school on Monday I heard the news
My little girl asked me why everybody looked so sad the lump in my throat grew bigger with every question that she asked. Until I felt the tears run down my face and I told her that Alyssa wouldn't be at school today
'Cause she doesn't lie in the classroom she doesn't lie anymore at school Alyssa lies with Jesus because there's nothin' anyone would do
Tears filled my eyes when my little girl asked me why Alyssa lies *Oh Daddy, oh* Daddy tell me why Alyssa lies

Re: What Songs Bring You To Tears?????????
Just found this thread. Ol' Shep. And a song about a cowboy and his horse that Ian Tyson used to sing, whose name escapes me, a.t.m.. Oh, and 'Traffic Lights', by Monty Python...but for a different reason.

Re: What Songs Bring You To Tears?????????
i think its the cello that makes this dar williams song sound soooo sad: FEBRUARY I threw your keys in the water, I looked back, Theyd frozen halfway down in the ice. They froze up so quickly, the keys and their owners, Even after the anger, it all turned silent, and The everyday turned solitary, So we came to February.
First we forgot where we'd planted those bulbs last year, Then we forgot that we'd planted at all, Then we forgot what plants are altogether, and I blamed you for my freezing and forgetting and The nights were long and cold and scary, Can we live through February?
You know I think Christmas was a long red glare, Shot up like a warning, we gave presents without cards, And then the snow, And then the snow came, we were always out shoveling, And wed drop to sleep exhausted, Then wed wake up, and its snowing.
And February was so long that it lasted into March And found us walking a path alone together. You stopped and pointed and you said, "Thats a crocus," And I said, "Whats a crocus?" and you said, "Its a flower," I tried to remember, but I said, "Whats a flower?" You said, "I still love you."
The leaves were turning as we drove to the hardware store, My new lover made me keys to the house, And when we got home, well we just started chopping wood, Because you never know how next year will be, And well gather all our arms can carry, I have lost to February.

Re: What Songs Bring You To Tears?????????
A little more than a year ago I heard this song for the first time on the morning of the funeral for someone I knew. It just reminded me so much of him and his wife.
| Always On Your Side by Sheryl Crow & Sting | My yesterdays are all boxed up and neatly put away Every now and then you come to mind 'Cause you were always waiting to be picked to play the game But when your name was called, you found a place to hide When you knew that I was always on your side
Well everything was easy then, so sweet and innocent But my demons and my angels reappeared Leavin' only traces of the man you thought I'd be Too afraid to hear the words I'd always feared Leavin' you with only questions all these years
But is there someplace far away, someplace where all is clear Easy to start over with the ones you hold so dear Or are you left to wonder, all alone, eternally This isn't how it's really meant to be No it isn't how it's really meant to be
Well they say that love is in the air, never is it clear, Try to pull it close and make it stay Butterflies are free to fly, and so they fly away And I'm left to carry on and wonder why Even through it all, I'm always on your side
But is there someplace far away, someplace where all is clear Easy to start over with the ones you hold so dear Or are you left to wonder, all alone, eternally When this isn't how it's really meant to be No it isn't how it's really meant to be
Well they say that love is in the air, never is it clear How to pull it close and make it stay Butterflies are free to fly, why do they fly away Leavin' me to carry on and wonder why Was it you that kept me wandering through this life When you know that I was always on your side

"Over straight and crooked miles Falling out of favour or embraced Wondering where was love... It hadn't happened yet" ~Ron Sexsmith~ Nearest to all things Patiently waiting So let the angels sing Silently weeping

Re: What Songs Bring You To Tears?????????
How could I have forgotten this gem from Gladys Night and the Pips. Neither One of Us (Wants to be the First to Say Goodbye) It's sad to think we're not gonna be here And it's gotten to the point Where we just can't fake it For some ungodly reason We just won't let it be I guess neither one of us Neither one of us wants to be the first to say good-bye I keep wondering Wondering What I'm gonna do without you And I guess you must be wondering the same thing too So we go on Go on together Living a lie Because I guess neither one of us Neither one of us wants to be the first to say good-bye Everytime I find the nerve Everytime I find the nerve to say I'm leaving Memories Those old memories get in my way Lord knows it's only me Only know it's me That I'm missing you When it comes to saying good-bye That a simple word that I just cannot say There can be no way There can be no way This can have a happy ending No, no So we just go on Hurting and pretending Convincing ourselves to give it just one more try Because I guess neither one of us Neither one of us wants to be the first to say Neither one of us wants to be the first to say Neither one of us wants to be the first to say Farewell my love Goodbye
