    Sadies, Todd Snider, Chris Knight

I got 3 cd's for Christmas and I'm loving every one of them. Anyone else get turned on to some good stuff?

The Sadies - Stories Often Told
I had heard this a couple of times last spring, but now I own it and can really get into it. Some of the songs just jump right out as being outstanding, while others are more subtle and require multiple listens to fully appreciate them. But I think this band shows more potential to be like an evolution of "The Band" than just about anybody I've heard in America or Canada. Each of their 3 main albums, in my opinion, has been so much better than the previous one that by the time these guys hit their late 30's early 40's, I think we're in for some amazing music.

Todd Snider Live - Near Truths and Hotel Rooms
I was impressed when I heard this guy grew up here in Portland and slipped out of town without getting much into the local music scene and then was discovered by a Jimmy Buffett band member and was further propelled by John Prine. But I never really listened much to him and I'm totally hooked now with this live album. He is a true modern-day folk singer and comedic story-teller with reminders of Arlo Guthrie, John Prine, Bob Dylan, and Jerry Jeff Walker.

    Chris Knight - self-titled CD (1998)
I had never heard of this guy until Perry told us about him and this CD and I knew I had to hear it. Very nice Texas style rockin' country with a lot of reminders of Steve Earle and Jack Ingram. Thanks for the tip, Perry!

Glad you like the Todd Snider Joe, that's been in heavy rotation with me for most of the year. Previous to the live CD the only other one I have features him with a full band. Gotta admit I like it better when he's by himself.

Also He did an awesome set on Austin City Limits back in the 90's. I really wish ACL would make their shows available on DVD.

P.S. he didn't slip out of town so much as he graduated School - by a thread!!! Big Grin

I totally agree with you about the Sadies, Joe! They just keep getting better and better. Although, I must admit that I prefer "Precious Moments" to "Stories Often Told", but that's just me. I am really looking forward to hearing that new one that the Sadies, Keelor and Rick White are working on right now. Anyway, glad to hear you're enjoying your new additions to your cd collection.
