What type of concert venue(s) do you prefer?

I find different benefits to different venues. I don't really like massive places like the ACC, but small arenas - like in Oshawa are ok. I know for BR - i can really appreciate a seated venue, if they're playing their ballads - it can be really relaxing. But being in a small club, crammed up against the stage dancing - that's amazing too! I guess I just like concerts any way I can get them!

Re: What type of concert venue(s) do you prefer?

I think I've had enough of the larger venues. My favourite places to catch live music are the small clubs and bars, because there's almost always a chance to talk to the performers afterwards and find out about their coming gigs.

Outdoor summer shows are wonderful, too. There's something about the feel of a warm breeze under a starry sky while being serenaded . . . It's perfect!

I find that with different venues you always get different sounds, always good of course. I really torn on wether i like arena or club shows better. I think I tend to lean to arena shows, purely for the effect that they have on the people. Everyone is having a good time, but no one is quite as crowded as in a club or bar.

Re: What type of concert venue(s) do you prefer?

I prefer smaller venues - clubs or small arenas, but certain acts only play the larger venues. Some clubs are great, but it really depends on the set up. I love the Horseshoe and the Rivoli here in Toronto, but the Kool Haus is just like a big warehouse.

It's nice to occasionally see BR in a seated venue, but I do prefer the small arenas like Sunderland and Oshawa.

Re: What type of concert venue(s) do you prefer?

We only have small venues here really. Our biggest venue is Mile One and that seats just over 7000 during concerts I believe. So I don't really have much exposure to big places like the ACC. I saw Dave Matthews at GM Place in Vancouver - that was the only "big" venue I ever saw a show at.

I like the small venues we have here. Blue Rodeo used to play at the Delta Hotel - capacity of about 1200-1500. I really liked those shows.

Me too!!! I LOVED the shows at the Delta!!! However, Mile One kinda sucks because you're not really allowed to stand or if you do they make you return to your seats Mad "oh well, I'll be back"!!! haha! No, I like venues where you can stand and dance if you want, but still be close with the band!!!

I don't like bar/club shows because I am under age, and that means that I can't go to them! I do believe that I will like them (possibly the best) in a few years! For now, I like small arena's the best because they seem to be less strict than theatres. Outdoor shows ore okay too.

Re: What type of concert venue(s) do you prefer?

I prefer shows in small arenas because they tend to be less strict than the theatre concerts. (Meaning, you are allowed to dance, and who can stop themselves!) Out door shows are also great if the weather is nice. I don't agree with the majority here, that the best place is a bar or club because I am under age. Red Face( I'm am quite sure though, that in a few years I will like those too, possibly the best! I'm probably making it sound like have been to a whole pile of BR concerts when in fact, I have only ever been to one. (I have 4 more lined up for this summer!) That one was in an arena, so maybe I am a little bit bias! I have been to a lot other concerts though and they were in all different locations, so I do have some clue what I am talking about!

Seen them at Barrymore's three times, 420 person capacity. The best was obviously the Leonard Peltier benefit show because of the setlist, but any show in any club that size is going to be memorable.

Clubs and outdoor shows. If the weather's right, outdoor shows can be incredible too!

My favourite Blue Rodeo venue is definitely The Kee, in Bala, Ontario.

    I prefer the smaller venues.

My least favourite BR venue has to be the Molson Amphitheatre -- don't like that place much.

Re: What type of concert venue(s) do you prefer?

After 13 years of BLUE RODEO shows..in all kinds of venues?? I would have to say, I definately preffer the smaller(seated) venues..
Beleive me...I"ve been EVERYWHERE!! Roll Eyes sing
I"ve been crammed in (elbow to elbow)at WASAGA..
I"ve had both GOOD and BAD seats...smal and HUGE venues.....
The accoustics at the Amphitheatre, are unspeakable!! Frown thumbdown I"m still going, because I"m willing to take them, anyway I can get them!! sing Cool My favourite place used to be..the old ONTARIO PLACE FORUM!! Smile Big Grin
In fact.. I want it back>>>RIGHT NOW!!! Mad
But at this time..even though it"s over 100 years old??? I just seem to have this (THING)..
for The Music Hall, on the Danforth..it"s small,
and somewhat intimate..and there are so many GREAT places to "chow down" along with great coffee bars in that part of T.O., theres always something to do, "after the show"...I"d rather go backstage to talk with the guys...but in the 13 years that I"ve been going to these shows,
It hasn"t happened for mr bluetunes..not even once..I"d LOVE to do it...just once in my life!!

I can see that I"m not the only one...who doesn"t care much for the Amphitheatre....
    But...you know what?????
This is the kind of stuff that happens..when beer companies decide that THEY actually KNOW something about music.. Frown Roll Eyes

"I wouldn"t mind, if you put me outta my hurt sometime" JGC Cool sing

I"ve been told....by both BR friends of mine...
as well as Susan(BR MGR)..the best place in this world to catch them is withot a doubt!!!
    The Stratford Theatre..SOMEDAY..before I reach,
"the end of the trail"...I"m going to Stratford!
(by hook or crook)"this IS a PROMISE, to myself"

I"m afraid I was , a little "long in the tooth"?
on this one....(Sorry, if I offended anyone)
That was not my intention, nor will it EVER be my intention..I infact, LOVE it here Cool love
Just as I do..all the friends that I have been fortunate enough to connect with here...

    love sing

Re: What type of concert venue(s) do you prefer?

Call me a homie but my favourite place is the SPECTRUM in here in Montreal. (Ask debbie) The accoustics are good, the place is small enough, yet big enough. You can chose the floor (to sit at a table/stand near the stage), or go on upstairs and look down from a nice table at the railing and still feel close to the action.

I think the backstage stuff happens here too judging by debs pics. which you can view elsewhere on this board.

What I've wondered is whether it would be a good idea to get a semi-huge prompter so the newbies can sing along with the rest of us.

The last time they came to theatre St. Denis, many of the folks seemed actually annoyed and unaware (it was the third show of a three-nighter) that I and too few others were EXPECTED to sing along with the band (except on certain ballads, of course). Jim even mentioned something about it (" 'bout time you guys woke up") mid-consert.
To be or not to be is NOT the question!

Rather, is it your will to be here, or to be elsewhere?

Re: What type of concert venue(s) do you prefer?

The best place I have seen BR was hands down the old Ontario Place Forum. Everything about it was great. The next best place is the Kee of Bala. Small enough that you think you have a private show. The band interacts more with the crowd then with a larger venue. The worse place is definitely the Molson Amp. in Toronto. The first time they played there it was obvious they were not impressed. I think Greg called it the Molson American Theatre. (and many other not so favourable names) The most interesting place is outside in very cold weather. How do they play when it is so cold? (New Years celebrations in Barrie)
But it is obvious that I will see them at any opportunity regardless of the venue's merits or lack there of.
