What first got you into Blue Rodeo?
I'm almost embarrassed to share my first BR memory as it in no way represents what I have thought of the band all these years, but here it is: Try was on Video Hits. My sis and I were watching. It was at the part where there's a close-up of Jim singing, and one of us, I can't remember which one, but I believe it was her, said, "He'd be so cute if he just smiled", and at that exact moment he did! Whamo! That was is for me. I soonafter got the LP. (It was a choice between records and cassettes at the time, and I opted for the record 'cause the pictures were bigger. lol) If I can in any way redeem myself for that "teen crush" anecdote, I would like to share that I had the privilege of having my request letter for the Outskirts video read on Video Hits. I remember I requested it for my penpal Maria and for myself, and that by then the show was hosted by Brian, not Sam, but it was cool to see my letter in his hand anyway. :D

Re: What first got you into Blue Rodeo?
eniko76 Thanks again for requesting that video for me. I don't think I ever saw that episode though :( I became a big Blue Rodeo fan after I heard "Piranha Pool" on the B side of the "Try" 45. I bought "Outskirts" and loved the whole record and have been a fan since. I joined the BR fan club and ordered a white Outskirts t-shirt. I still have it but I don't wear it anymore. It's about 5 sizes too big. Maria

Re: What first got you into Blue Rodeo?
Great story eniko76. I honestly don't remember what first got me into Blue Rodeo but I do know that once I saw them live I was seriously hooked!
Greg Keelor met Jim Cuddy and then I met you people. Serendipity is a marvellous thing.

Re: What first got you into Blue Rodeo?
I always enjoyed their music. Like you Hazy, seeing them live hooked me too. The first time I saw them in Stratford it was just such a different kind of show, it sealed the deal! And eniko76, a group of friends and I had just been talking about how we miss the lp's cause of the pictures and the whole package, the sound of the record and the needle....ahhh, the good old days!!

Re: What first got you into Blue Rodeo?
It was the video for Try that hooked me too. I remember thinking how cute Jim was and the song just spoke to me. This was about 10 years ago and I haven't looked back since. It's been an incredible journey and I've met some wonderful people because of Blue Rodeo.

*BIG HUG* I just couldn't resist! My, but the universe seems to just be in synch with us sometimes, does it not?!?!?! I got your email. Replied. Gone are the days of waiting for the mailman... *nostalgic sigh* It's all good, though! I'm glad we're back in touch. All thanks to BLUE RODEO!!!

Re: What first got you into Blue Rodeo?
I can certainly understand that! There is nothing like seeing the guys live. For that matter, there is no medium that can put us more in touch with a performer than to see them live. Concert halls, theatres,... that's where I get the most goose-bumps! Hey, HazySoul if you read the second post in this thread and the one I just posted previously, you will understand why I REALLY LOVE YOUR SIGGY! I couldn't have put it better myself. :D

I know what you mean! My mom and dad gave me their old stereo system last summer when I set up house in Hull. When I say old, I mean old! It has a double cassette deck (synchronous dubbing, if that impresses you!) and a recordplayer on top. I was disappointed that they didn't bring me all my old LP's but the recordplayer doesn't work. I am seriously considering trying to find a new needle for it.

Re: What first got you into Blue Rodeo?
I remember a friend sending me Somebody Waits and Lost Together back in university and really liked the sound. Then, what sealed the deal for me was seeing them live a couple of years ago -- I had just moved to Vancouver and they were playing at the Orpheum. I didn't know too many people there at the time, so I decided that I wanted to do something that night -- I decided to head down on my own to watch them (got a great seat too) and was so impressed that I was hooked. (I was just telling a colleague of mine who just moved to Vancouver this story in order to encourage him to go, even if he has to go alone! I think I convinced him!)

Re: What first got you into Blue Rodeo?
That's a great story eniko! I first heard of Blue Rodeo on tour with my old band the Gypsy Mechanics back in '95. We were from Boston and playing shows in Toronto and London and everyone kept telling us that we had to hear BR because they thought there was likeness in sound. (looking back - what a huge compliment!) Someone gave me a copy of "Nowhere to Here" and someone stole it off me and I forgot all about BR for a few years. Fast forward to 2001 and I'm in a used record store in Long Beach, CA (Fingerprints) and I see a used copy of "5 Days in July" and I pick it up and am completely blown away. What followed was me getting into all their stuff - through them I found Kathleen Edwards and Matt Mays who I am just huge fans of too. In fact - I was just interviewed about the problems in country music in the US and I went off on how it's not like Canada where the good music comes from! Seeing my first BR concert Monday night in Vancouver!! -Bobbo

Re: What first got you into Blue Rodeo?
I had heard songs like "Try" and "Rose Coloured Glasses" on the radio, but I didn't know the name of the band, let alone who Jim Cuddy or Greg Keelor were. Imagine that!! LOL! I really got into their music in 1994 when I started going out with a man who was a big fan. From the moment I heard "Head Over Heels", I was hooked, hooked, hooked! That song will always hold a special place in my heart and will probably always be my favourite even though that man and I are no longer together. We went through a pretty bitter breakup after being together for 7 years. We ended up going for 2 years without having any contact whatsoever. Well, guess where our paths crossed once again? You got it! At a Blue Rodeo concert!! It's funny... I just finished saying in another thread how Blue Rodeo's music has a way of bringing people together even during the most difficult times and this is just another example of that... So yeah... we met up at an outdoor show after not having seen each other for a couple of years... He was married by that time and introduced me to his new wife. There were no hard feelings whatsoever. When the guys played "Head Over Heels", I instinctively turned around and looked back into the crowd. I don't know why, because I had no idea where my ex was sitting... I just did. Well, I saw him right away and our eyes met and we both broke out into the biggest grins and we just had our little moment. It was pretty neat. I have to add that there were times while we were together that my then boyfriend used to swear up and down that he regretted the fact that he ever introduced me to Blue Rodeo's music because of how much I grew to like them! He even went through a period where he wouldn't even listen to their stuff AT ALL, he got so sick of them! LOL!! Oh, the things that poor man went through with me... like the first time I met Jim and went all ga-ga - and wanted nothing to do with my man for 2 days afterwards - everything was Jim, Jim, Jim! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! I could go on and on...It's so much fun to look back and reminisce!
