    Small Miracles

      Hi everyone!

I was wondering if anyone would know who plays the mandolin in "3 Hours Away" and"Mystic River" on small miracles? It says Bob plays the Pedal Steel and Mandolin in the booklet, but I noticed you can hear the pedal and mando and 2 guitars so it couldent be Jim. Do you think they owuld re recod over it with the mando then?

    Thanks

        Josh

Hope everyone had or is looking foreward to a Awsome concert!

    Josh,

The album was recorded in the studio on multi-track.  One person can play any instrument on any track and in some cases, one person has played all the instruments on a song/album (Blue Rodeo has not done that to my knowledge).  It is common for one person to play more than one instrument on a song.  Each track/instrument is recorded individually and the song is pieced together.  It is very rare now for an entire band to play all at once to record a song - that does still occur in jazz and classical music.

    Josh,

As was mentioned, all vocals and instruments can be recorded on separate tracks. To keep everyone "in time", they can play while listenening to a "tap track". A tap track is a very basic (guitar and drums) intial first recording of the song. With everything on it's own track you have a great deal of editting control as to what goes on the final product.
