    Greetings from Florida (newbie)

I have long been a music junkie and I am well aware some great country music comes out of Canada.  I have heard the name Blue Rodeo but I never heard any of their music until recently, when I heard the song "Bad Timing" in an episode of Corner Gas (The best show on American television).  I would like to learn more of Blue Rodeo's music.  Is there a consensus among fans as to which CD a newbie should start with?  I know they have a greatest hits but I prefer studio albums.  Any thoughts?  Thanks.

Your're from Florida......woooo hooo and yippeeee....Me and SF aren't alone anymore!!!!

I'm in Florida but not from Florida but here none the less....where abouts are you?

I think we would suggest Outskirts to begin...but the music is awesome and very versatile so every album is a must as you move through you will most likely agree! Greatest Hits is ok, but there are so many awesome songs that aren't on it....then of course there are the solo albums as well.

I'm so excited right now...Florida yay...maybe if we can get four of us they'll come play us a show!!!

    and by the way....WELCOME!!!

    Welcome, InfiniteDuff!!

Definitely, Outskirts, their first album. Five Days in July is a definite favourite of mine.

    Welcome ID,

A word of caution though....watch out for those other Floridians on the board as they are nuts.

So you have two good suggestions to which I will add a third which is Casino. In fact eventhough I love Outskirts I would recommend that one first simply because they still play more selection from that one at their live shows.

    Anyhooooo....welcome to the DB

    Welcome to the site Infinteduff!

I personally would have to suggest Five Days in May or Casino just because they were the first ones I heard and they're both still faves (Bad Timing's on Five Days in May).

    Welcome to the board Infiniteduff.

I would recommend Five Days In July as it has many songs you're familiar with. After that, well Outskirts, Diamond Mine, Casino---that is if you don't have their Greatest Hits, as thats always a GOOD one to have just if you want to hear your fav's---Just Like a Vacation is a GOOD one as it's a Live cd. But once again, I love them all.

I always forget about Just Like a Vacation as a recommendation....I don't know why. But its a great choice too!

    Re: Greetings from Florida (newbie)

Thanks for the warm welcome.  After reading all your feedback and doing a little research I decided to start with Five Days in July.  I ordered a copy from an online retailer and I should get it later this week.  I listened to some samples before ordering and I don't see any possibility of me not liking the CD.

To answer katiescarlett's question I am in Stuart, in Martin County.  I moved to Stuart last summer after 20 years in Palm Beach Gardens.  I'm from Massachusetts originally but I know native Floridians exist because I married one.   Where in Florida are the others?

Thanks again for the greeting.  I may pop in from time to time and chat.  Good day to all.

    Re: Greetings from Florida (newbie)

Welcome ID! I am a relatively new BR fan, since Feb '08. The first time I heard them we were driving back to Alaska and we heard a concert on CBC live while going through Whitehorse. It was instant attraction and as soon as possible I ordered 3 of their cd's: Greatest Hits, Five Days in July, and their latest, Small Miracles. I like every song on all 3 cd's which is pleasantly unusual! Through the wonderful fans on this board I was able to determine what to order next and today I received my Outskirts, Are You Ready and also Jim Cuddy's Light That Guides You Home. I can't wait to listen to them and let them become a major part of me now! I know whatever you order will just grow on you the more you listen to them. Be sure to try to get your local radio stations to play their songs and get your friends hooked on them, too. Eventually when FLA is littered with BR fans they will find their way down there to do a show!

Here is a link to the concert that got me hooked, and thanks to Alreadygone for letting me know about it!  I wish they would make a cd from it. http://www.cbc.ca/radio2/cod/concerts/20080317bluer

Hey, I grew up in Massachusetts, tooParty!!! In a little town called Halifax. It's not so little anymore. At age 15 I was hopping a bus to Bean Town to see all ages shows at the Channel night club and others and inceasantly listening to WBCN Boston! It was an adventurous time! Now I'm in Alaska having bigger adventures!
