Matt Mays
Biography
In just a few short years Matt Mays has emerged as one of Canada’s most exciting new artists. After a brief stint in the Canadian country-rock band The Guthries, Matt released his first solo album, Matt Mays, in 2002. In 2005, his sophomore release, Matt Mays & El Torpedo, dropped, receiving stellar reviews from both new and old fans. The single "Cocaine Cowgirl" was Matt's biggest hit to date, ranking as the third most played Canadian song on Rock Radio, and holding the #10 spot on the BDS year-end Rock chart in 2005.
In late 2006, Matt released When the Angels Make Contact, a soundtrack for a film he had written with the same name. Due to funding problems, the film has yet to be released. In early 2007, Matt assembled a new band to tour in support of the album.
With El Torpedo Matt has found band members who have as strong a stage presence as he does. Their roof raising shows have earned them a reputation as a stellar live act. Matt Mays & El Torpedo are: Matt (guitars, vocals), Jarrett Murphy (guitar, vocals), Brad Conrad (organ, pedal steel, guitar), Tim Baker (drums) and Andy Patil (bass, vocals).
